Pelican Signs to Southern Lord Recordings, Announces Spring Tour

Southern Lord Recordings has announced the signing of Chicago heavy-rock instrumental icons Pelican. "Their genre-defying sound and eagerness to explore new musical directions will fit right at home alongside similar bands on the label like Earth, Boris and sunn 0)))," states the press release.

Pelican is currently at Red Room studios in Seattle, WA recording an EP that will be their first release on Southern Lord. The new material promises to be heavier, darker and very "riff-oriented" comments guitarist Trevor De Brauw. A very special guest guitarist who has been heavily influential to the band will be making a guest appearance as well. More details will be revealed shortly.

In March, Pelican will be touring alongside new label mates Wolves In The Throne Room, including a triumphant return to the South By South West music fest in Austin, TX at the Southern Lord showcase. Upon returning home Pelican will focus their sights on their 4th full-length album.

in my opinion Pelican should release an album featuring various metal vocalists. Alot like what Apocolyptica did

I liked City of Echoes and I like them as an instrumetal band. I wouldn't mind the occasional song with guest vocals, but not 3 or 4 on an album like Apocalyptica. I think the Apocalyptica's songs with vocalists are some of their weakest ones overall.

Good band on a label thats really been stealing my attention these last couple years...I have "City of Echoes" and "The Fire in Our Throats...".

As Tomo, suggested I'd like a more violent album thats more post-metal than post-rock...It would make perfect sense to get the vocalist from Isis or Neurosis to sing...I'd buy it.

Now Playing: My Dying Bride - "All Swept Away"

Think i was in a bad mood when posted last on this haha, City Of Echoes wasn't bad but i was a bit disappointed. I hope the new album will be more sludge like Australiasia was and i'm sure they'l do that on Southern Lord, a great label with great bands on it.
