Gutter: Agreed. They cut the best part of the bridge out and go directly into and out of the lead. That is without a doubt my favorite part of this song. It really drives the sequence. They ruined the continuity of the song for the sake of a director's/producer's "intuition".

Oz: I couldn't tell ya brother. Trivium is kind of like a horrible family secret that people hide from the rest of the world. I think they really improved their sound on this one, but there's still only a handful of songs that I listen to from this album. Throes being one of my favorites.

As far asi know, they're fairly well received over here in the states. the concert I broke my nose at was actually a Trivium concert with a bunch of local bands, and it was the largest crowd Ive ever seen at that particular venue, people waiting outside and everything while it was still packed o the inside.
I think it's just the fact that the us has more people than the UK, so there's more room for people who like this garbage lol
I have to agree with BG on the album condition. I never liked the sound of this band much, but I will say that they drastically improved it, to the point where i can stand them, and even enjoy one or two songs. If anything, I'm just happy they dont sound like metallica rip-offs anymore lol

Oz: FAN (no offence FAN) is a perfect example of "the horrible family secret" theory. I have known for over a week that FAN had broken his nose at a concert, but only now do I realize that he broke his nose at the Trivium concert. Had he broken his nose at a Slayer concert, we would have heard everything straight away. In addition, I am fully aware of FAN's long standing hatred for Trivium and yet he still enjoys some of their material. I also used to hate Trivium, but have recently found a new respect for their recent efforts. I think it will take a few more albums like this last one to actually get people (or the majority) to admit openly that they like this band.

^lol its fine, i WAS kindof dancing around mentioning what concert i had gone to. i wasnt even gonna go, but my friends wanted a concert badly, since i got them so addicted to moshing and the whole concert experience, and the next one coming up after the trivium gig was 2 months away. So I swallowed my pride and...broke my nose during the second band haha.
That alone should tell me to never even try to see Trivium again. unfortunately, theyre on the mayhem bill with Slayer...damnit lol

never could take Trivium really serious. saw them a few years back in Austin, TX with LOG and Machine Head. they sucked, no screaming and sounded like a wannabe Metallica. granted their new album is alot better than their previous efforts, but they've yet to release anything that i've liked

they were in their non screaming crusade phase... i really dont blame anyone for hating them during that period, i really hope they can do enough to break the stereotypes given to them... shogun is a good album, but i think alot of people shoot it down before listening to it, or already have pre conceived notions about it

I saw them in 2005 at Download when they were just starting to get popular here and I thought they were awful, then I saw them supporting Maiden and someone summed up my feelings by throwing a bottle of piss at them. From what I've heard of this new album though, it's really good musically but the vocals ruin it for me.

Oz: Everyone basically nailed it with how people here react to trivium. only thing is...every metalhead iv ever met says the same thing- "Yeah they're good, but they're popular mainstream for me." But as soon as they hear one of they're better song they say "oh wow, they're actually really good." People on here are just afraid to admit they like trivium when ever THIS SITE itself mentioned SHOGUN as one of the best albums of 2008.i saw trivium twice in the past year at metal festivals, and both times the "diehard metal" crowd who takes themselfs to seriousely actually admitted to loving the set. And Oz, if you've only listened to a few songs from SHOGUN and didnt like the vocals, i sugguest you listen on, the vocal get better as the album goes on.BTW how can another slayer fan complain about vocals? haha hope that helped man

Trivium's new album was an attempt to make the most generic sounding modern metal album possible. Take generic bits from thrash, NWOBHM, metalcore, emo, groove, mash it together. Now that they're big, they can pretty much cruise by on safe and mediocre albums and they know it.

I always love it when people throw bottles of piss at concerts (how metal is that!?!) but at the same time I have to wonder about the mental state of someone who would actually take the time to collect their urine in a container, carry it with them until a band they don't like comes on (what happens if it breaks while moshing?), and then chuck it onstage?
