Green Carnation Recording Material
Norwegian avant garde metallers Green Carnation, featuring ex-members of Emperor and ...In The Woods, are currently in the middle of recording the follow-up to last year's critically acclaimed Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness opus.
"We were able to rent "Bingen" (a relatively new venue in our hometown, Kristiansand which is located in the same building where most of the bands from our city have their rehearsal rooms) for the drum production. We believe we will use 5-6 days and then bring the production back to the studio where we recorded our first album, Jailhouse Studio," says Tchort in an online studio update. "We did some sound testing of the big room and located the spot where the drums will have the best sound, including the area around the kit for ambient sound. We rig the drum kit and the drummer, Anders, put on new Evans drumheads and tunes his kit before we go through the recording schedule for the coming week. What’s special about this album is that we haven’t rehearsed it at all. It was written during 1 week of pre production in Brown Sound Studio (Stein Roger’s studio) and everyone involved got the CD with the songs 3 weeks prior to this day. "
Tchort continues: "Anders and the rest of us are excused from work, so we can use the whole day for recording. We listen to what we taped the day before and decide to re-do one song. We end the day with recording 3 new songs and are on schedule for the drum production part. Before we leave the place we check all doors and find out that the door from outside the building, leading directly into the control room with all the equipment is open and probably has been since before we started using the room. Due to extreme frost outside the wooden door bended enough for the locks to fail so we spend 2 hours trying to fix it but since its late we cant do anything but take down all the equipment and move it to a more secure room. It costs us a lot of work taking it up and down every day, not to mention the ear effort to ensure everything sounds the same as it did from the day before, but I guess its better to be on the safe side and spend a few extra hours on that, rather than coming down one day and find that the room is emptied by someone else than you…"
Green Carnation's The Writings on the Wall is being produced by Tchort and Stein Roger. So far, the record appears to be on schedule for its June 2003 release date. The album will be Green Carnation's third overall effort and their first for new label Season Of Mist.
