I was SOOOO prepared to be offended by this.
Somehow, Hatebreed did not butcher this.
Now that i think about it, Jamey Jasta's vocals are almost perfect to mimic Max Cavalera's growl talk yell thing. not really all that bad.
i mean, Im not gonna download it or anything, especially since I already have the fanastic original version, but it didnt piss me off at least. meh.
Now Playing: Blotted Science-REM

Timw: Not the band REM.
It's the band Blotted Science, an instrumental metal group composed of the drummer from Behold The Arctopus and the bassist from Cannibal Corpse, and a guitarist I've never heard of, but has like 15 bands under his name.
The SONG is called REM
As in Rapid Eye Movement.
And lol bristowe thanks I just picked up the cd Machinations of Dementia like two days ago. I had only heard like three songs off their myspace, but i was instantly hooked, I just had to get it. Sweet sweet baby-making music, is all I can say about the entire cd so far lol.

Arghh!! That's blasphemy! It should go "lord high and awesome Ron Jarzombek, and some other guys on bass and drums" - that's how masterful Jarzombek is. And it's funny how Blotted Science is so popular, I've been a Jarzombek fan for a long time and I thought Machinations of Dementia was pretty average for him. Check out Spastic Ink or Watchtower!

Chopper is no comedian. He is a murderer and had a large part in the Melbourne underworld wars. He isn't a comic. He is just a smart guy making a huge profit from his criminal past through legal means. Like all the books he has written.
In short Chopper is just a smart thug.

lol cynic alright I'll check him out. i was planning on it anyway, since his stuff on this album was so good to my ears, even though it's more the music as a whole that impresses me, rather than his specific guitar work. Not to mention all the bands I noticed he had under his belt of contributions and solo albums.
What really gets me about blotted science, is that their list of former drummers includes Chris Adler, and the guy from Hate Eternal(name eludes me right now).
I can understand how Chris Adler, though fairly intersting of a drummer, might not be up to par, but the guy friom Hate Eternal? How demanding can you be? there really arent a whole lot of drummers better than that guy. tomaas Haaake, Hellhamer, Phil collins and George Kolias are the only ones that come to mind lol.
I bet they called all of those people before somebody mentioned mr. obscure band drummer to him. lol

Derek Roddy if I remember right - also drummed for Nile. I check Jarzombek's site all the time have done for a while - the reason they both pulled out was because of schedules etc, both of them could have done the job. But Zeleny was just a professional machine when it came to recording it.
Watchtower are probably my no 3. fav band ever - that says something! Pretty much just for "Control And Resistance".

Oh I definiltly have room in my library for something like technical thrash. Ive actually been looking for interesting thrash music. I feel the genre has been neglected in terms of musical exploration, so I'll definately check out watchtower now when I get a chance.
But yeah, I have been a in a brutal type of kick lately lol From Grindcore to Slayer/Warbringer type thrash to gangster Rap to Prog-death to Solid Death Metal. not much room in there for me to appreciate the Porcupinetree discography i downloaded a few weeks ago, or Isis or Trouble, know what I mean? lol I just decide I like the band, download something by them, and keep it tucked away for the future chance that I'll be in that mood at some point. though, with new Lamb of God, slayer and Behemoth releases this year, that might be a ways off lol
Now Playing: Decapitated- Lunatic of God's Creation (Deicide cover)

FAN- Thrash continually evolves. I consider Lamb of God modern thrash. A few bands are doing the rehash thing (Municaipal Waste for example) and although I enjoy the tunes they aren't evolving anything and kind of pigeonhole the genre. Alot of people think the 90's had alot of "groove metal" but I consider bands like Sepultura, Pantera, and Machine Head 90s' thrash.
34. writes:
But if you listen to Pantera, 90s Sep and Machine Head - and then play a track from 80s Exodus, Slayer and Sacrifice - it's pretty obvious that there is a difference. i.e. it's pretty annoying when people tell me to check out an awesome thrash band, and it turns out to be Machine Head lol. It's just handy to say "groove metal" or thrash with touches of groove or just anything that describes the bands better.
@FAN - oh yep, I laughed when a while ago you said you were listening to heaps of Trouble and Type O Negative because that describes perfectly about 2 months of last year for me!
35. writes:
I think the both of you have a point to be had on the thrash thing. In that, yes, thrash does evolve, and I guess you could call certain bands like Machine Head and Lamb of God thrash in a sense, because they evolved partially out of that genre, but they sound so radically differnt from their predeccesors, that I think a new title is neccesary; groove hits it on the nail for me, like cynic said. It's like saying Napalm Death and Hatebreed are punk bands. Yes, they spawned from that genre, and have common elements to their music reminiscient of it, but do really sound anything like the sex Pistols? That'as why the words Hardcore and Grindcore are in use today, to describe those differentiated sounds. I guess I'm just an Obsessive a$$hole when it comes to labeling things lol
Cynic: ya, in terms of musical taste and bands, it always seems like I'm catching up to you, psythe and RM?. All the bands that I keep finding out about and subsequently freaking out about, it seems like you three have been listening to for weeks already, or gotten bored with or something. Do you have any idea how frustrating that is? lol
36. writes:
Lol!! Funny haha.
The way I see it, we are like rabid starving dogs hunting out new meat. We will surely go insane and start eating our own leg if we don't find new music. You've at least got a good cupboard full of snacks to get through :P
But I go through the same thing, I'll listen to a few bands intensely for a while and then move on and slot them in a special place in my metal heart. I'm about to move into a Kyuss and St. Vitus phase (I can feeeel it!) although I've been listening to a bit of non-metal stuff lately.

Grindcore hasn't really changed much since the early bands in my opinion. But if you compare old hardcore bands like Youth of Today and Minor Threat and compare them to two bands from the opposite sides of hardcore, we'll use Have Heart and Bury Your Dead. Both sound so different to the old bands and then again far different to each other but they all fit under the hardcore umbrella.
