Robert Plant Honored by Queen

Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant received one of Britain's topmost honors today in a ceremony that also included jazz saxaphonist Courtenay Pine and fantasy novelist Terry Pratchett being inducted into the Order of the British Empire.
Plant was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in Queen Elizabeth II's traditional New Years' Honors List in acknowledment of the musician's contributions to the music and entertainment industry.
The Order of the British Empire is a UK honours system that's been around for centuries to reward people for merit, service and bravery. Plant's ranking of CBE is just one step below knighthood.
Former bandmate, guitarist Jimmy Page, was appointed the similar but lower-ranking Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2005. That same year, the band as a whole was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
More details about Plant's latest achievement can be found at his official home on the web.

godlike: Wouldn't it be something if Jimmy was knighted before Robert though? I'm not exactly clear how all that works but I believe that OBE's and CBE's are sort of a a precursor/prerequistite to being knighted. Maybe Oz knows for sure. Anyway, Jimmy deserves it and it would be an "in your face".

godlike: Agreed. When I first saw this thread I thought Queen (Brian May and co.) was honoring him and thought to myself how fvcked up it would be if Plant decided to hop in with those blokes instead of his old mates from the mighty Zep. I was actually relieved to see that it was Queen Liz II.
