i was skeptical when i heard their single play on fm, but dude, its frickin metallica so i had to check it out, liked it...and i got a damn big spot in my heart for them--minus st. anger *AHEM* but i liked getting back to the long guitar solos, being thats what hooked me on them in the first place.

yea i hear ya, i've heard that from a select few, i just can't see how anyone who was/is a fan of '80's Metallica wouldn't love this album, it's got the exact same sound, song structure/length, and energy behind it in my opinion. i felt like i was back in 9th grade the first time i heard it straight through (which was the minute i bought it). I guess some people must've just written them off because they're still too bitter and jaded from the other sh** that they won't keep an open mind to the possibility how good this is.

branded: That was pretty mild by your standards buddy.
TOG and DB: I would have to say ANL was okay, but Suicide and Redmption was what I liked best because there was no vocal. James was just never the same after he blew his vocal chord out. Judas Kiss would be my second choice. Overall, it wasn't a bad album, but I still prefer the MOP and previous material. Cliff was the man.

BG1- Yes true, when you sing like that the voice is the one thing that can't hold up from age 26 to 46, but he brought it back to the best of his ability, the growl is there. Comparing DM to Lightning/Puppets is a little like comparing Arod to Babe Ruth though, different eras. But they both hit it out of the park, at least for me.
and btw Eulogy - fav tool song.

branded: sullen huh? I don't quite know what to think about that. Did you notice that people are praising Metallica on this thread? Come on branded. Get out of your funk. There are certain things that we depend on in life and you bashing the sh*t out of Metallica and Korn fans on MU is definately one of them.
b2112: I going to have to disagree with you regarding the age theory. There are a lot of "old men" out there that are still belting it out just as good as they did 20 years ago. It all comes down to training and execution.
NP: Hell Awaits - Slayer

Charlie: Imagine that *smirks at avatar*. It isn't a bad album by any means. It's hard for a band to write with the same ferocity as they did when they were starving angry musicians, seeing how they have more money than they could ever spend in three lifetimes now. I guess it was the best they could do. I just don't think that its great. You know?

k i dont know how old everyone is but i started listening to metallica since before the black album ('90) and obviously they were at the top of their game at the time. when load came out i had lost interest. the problem is i had no interest for the next 12 years and after that amount of time it's too hard to resurrect those feelings i had for the music way back when. so even though death magnetic is the best thing theyve done in 17 years i cant get into it. theres 3 decent songs on DM. thats my opinion.

Branded - Thrash eh?....yeah man me too. I'm mostly listen death & thrash metal. I also listen to some classic rock here and there. You have any specific bands that you listen to a lot?
I listen to a sh** load of PanterA,Slayer & BLS
NP - BLS - "Bridge To Cross"

pantera, slayer, down, bls, tool, a perfect circle, paragon, testament, anthrax (not a lot), lamb of god, devildriver, corrosion of conformity, gwar, hatebreed, rage against the machine, stormtroopers of death, sepultura, the mars volta (modern 60s influenced psychadelic rock), znowhite, white zombie, and others....

blindgreed1..yes i do love metallica heh but i do know what you mean i dont think the album was the best album they have ever made but it tops st. anger a million times over and there finally getting back into the classic sound ..i think its a good record..but you cant expect them to put out a new album and have it sound like it was from 86 i think to many people lost faith in them after anger came out..and to many people dont like the loads there are some really good songs there the loads would have made a great double album!
31. writes:
well, charlie, thats what lars said they were going to do (go back to their sound from around 86 or so). so thats what every1 expected, and some people thought it wasnt anything like what they said it would sound like....i for one expected a bomb of a cd even before it came out, and i (in my opinion) was right....

Branded - Znowhite?....man really?...I personally thought that band was complete garbage! That's just my opinion though. I was expecting you to mention Municipal Waste as a top one...seeing that you like thrash and reside in the east coast. Oh well, good bands you listed there dude. You play any instruments or do vocals?..
NP - Municipal Waste - "Headbanger Face Rip"
33. writes:
i think znowhite could have had a better sound if given a better chance than what they got. musically, znowhite had some good riffs...no i play no instruments (tried guitar for yrs, never worked out. vocals, i sound like a dude getting a$$ raped...high pitch). i make trance/techno music on my pc.
35. writes:
"vocals, i sound like a dude getting a$$ raped"
hahahahah!!....fukk dude...
And about Znowhite, yeah they had some good riffs but I could'nt stand their vocals! I'm not a huge fan of Thrash bands with ultra high pitched vocals. With the exception of Anthrax,Nuclear Assualt,Overkill and maybe Testament. Other than that....cheap!
Trance & Techno music?...hmmm..not my type but since you enjoy doing that, keep at it man!
NP - Violent Force - "Dead City"
36. writes:
Yeah dude...Municipal Waste is pretty badass. There are a fukk load of underground Thrash bands here in California too. And it's none of that fake Trivium,BFMV sh**. Pure Fukking Retro Thash!...Another good band is "Warbringer". You might've heard of em'. I saw em live with Overkill a early October and they ripped the stage man.
NP - Municipal Waste - "The Thrashin' Of The Christ"

"Znowhite?....man really?...I personally thought that band was complete garbage!"
WHAA?! I thought you'd be the one person who would be into Znowhite! Seriously, Znowhite are (imo) one of the best thrash bands ever, I'd listen to them over Testament, Anthrax, Violence etc. Have you heard "Act of God"? They injected classical melody but still kept it brutal, despite having a chick on vocals (you wouldn't notice it though, just sounds like a high male voice.)
"I am the war machine that stares you in the face
Eyes to the sky and you know the end is near
I am the war machine; I can burn the sun from the sky
Take away tomorrow; bring truth to all your fears"
To end this post, Znowhite f***ing rule.

the only song I genuinely like is "My apocalypse" the lyrics are actually not f***in retarted. (lookin at you, "love is a four letter word...") The solo in it, as well as some of the vocals during one part though, seem ripped straight out of a slayer song, so maybe that's the reason I like it so much.
And for the record, as far as thrash goes, warbringer is the sh**. I first thought they were just a rip-off of Slayer, which annoyed me, but after an actual good listen, the music is actually fairly original and awesome in it's own right. There's no denying they were heavily influenced by Slayer though, it's almost blatant at some points; they even have one song with an angel of death screech in it pretty much.

this release is a pretty solid effort from these guys compared to the last 5 years or so. I'm not a huge fan of it, but its pretty good. I'm glad they picked this for the vid, and u guys that come on here to talk sh** bc u love the attention ur mom never gave you. I think u got the wrong site. Didn't you mean to type in blabbermouth.net?
46. writes:
Cynic, Shredder, you guys listen to Hatchet? I thought they were pretty much like most other retro-thrash bands at first, but the new album has really grown on me a lot. There is a little more high pitched screaming that I normally like, but it fits and it's not a lot by any means.

branded - MW is a crossover thrash band. Ah well at least your honest about it.
Cynic - Fukk yeah dude!...DH rules! I have "Tortured Existence"...great album man.
DB - Of course I've heard of Hatchet!...\m/.... I'm well aware of almost every Thrash band surrounding the L.A area. There are loads of Thrash bands here in L.A.
You should check out Mutants Of War,Merciless Death(I'm sure you've heard of em'),Violater(might've heard of em' too),Sakrificer,Taking Over,Tormenter, etc...I've been going to a lot of Local Thrash gigs here. Therefore, I know plenty about the rising Thrash scene
NP - Violent Force - "Sign Of Evil"
^^^ Has anyone heard of this German Thrash band?...they only released one album in the mid 80's but they truly fukking kick ass!!...

branded ive noticed you a lot on this board for a guy who hates metallica.....you have pretty much dedicated your life to it. I dont view these comments too often but everytime i do i seem to see atleast 5 or more posts by you per metallica subject and it makes me laugh everytime i see it. If a metallica fan with good things to say did the same its understandable but you have seemed to make it your life passion to bash them on this message board and who knows how many other message boards out there. Does anyone pay you to do this? Cause if they dont...dude you seriously need to get a job or something. Its quite pathetic actually

I used to consider myself a die hard Metallica, but after the Load/Reload abortions, I gave up on them. I reluctantly crawled back for St. Anger, then swore their new stuff off forever. I understand with age comes change, but to me they've abandoned everything they once were. Their tone and changes and lyrical wit. Maybe it's just me getting older, but "Justice" is still my favorite from them.

I myself am a master of puppets fan. Every album(first four, duh) was the sh** imo, some of the best musical work of the century, but MoP just had an epic badass sound to it that i just can't get over. Probably one of my top ten albums of all time really, and then the rest of those four all fall somewhere in top 15 or something.
Justice was the sh**, but it was almost no longer thrash at all, which blows my mind every time i listen to kill and then that album. like, "how the f*** did they get from point A to point B?)

I agree with cruor as normal, good to see you back buddy! Hell I even love the song you're playing. Hatchet? I think you've mentioned them to me before DB, I've only heard what's on their myspace. It kicked a$$ though, I mean they're right out of 89.

White Raven writes:
"guys, you think metallica's new album is a return to their classic roots?"
I have to say no, I think it is something better than that, instead of rehashing the classics into an album they took elements from those albums and made something new, a new album all together. It is an artistic step forward, and the best part is ITS NOT BAD, it is actually quite good. The album may not be perfect but can you really expect them to make a perfect album after 25 years?
75. writes:
"after 25 years you think they would have it down to a science"
Why would you want them to? Motorhead and AC/DC have their thing down to a science, can you tell one album from another with those bands? I think it is better to mix it up, take chances and risk crap. As much as I hate to say it, I'd rather a band take a chance and keep things interesting/unpredictible with a St. Anger result than put out 24 different versions of High Voltage or Motorhead.
