Decrease in Music Sales This Year: A Minor Rant
There are a pair of articles talking about the decrease in music sales this year. One article states that "Napster was good for the music industry all along" and that sales were higher last year because people were trying music before they buy it. The other article places the blame on recordable CDs and piracy (which is an old argument in the computer gaming industry).
Is it absurd to think that the economic downturn was the reason for the decline in music sales? Sometimes, I wonder who is dumber - the recording industry for making these often contradictory staments, or the press for not only printing them, but often backing them in commentary. Using a scapegoat works best if decried by all...at least get that part right!
