gee red, you replied to a post of mine without insulting me! lol
i guess i'm getting a second chance haha
i love black metal, its my favorite genre. it's heavy and crushing while at the same time atmospheric and deep. It's very complicated to play, especially with such talanted musicians playing it as you previously mentioned.

i wasnt a fan of black or death. then i bought some headbangers ball cd and a cradle of filth song called medusa and hemlock was on it, as well as "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" by dimmu borgir and i got hooked. i listened to a lot of metalcore and nu metal at that time as well.
As i grew up and changed so did my music tastes. slipknot wasn't near as heavy or brutal as the sound of cannibal corpse or obituary. shadows fall lacked the intensity of "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" by dimmu borgir, which was what i was looking for all along.

Yeah Dark_Funeral, I'm a big black metal fan too... but this is a strange thread to bring up that subject. Right now Watain are the most important band for me... a bit different to Dimmu, but I like them too. I was lucky enough to catch Watain for the first time at Wacken this year... where coincidentally A7X played. Hey, we are back on topic! They didn't exactly suck, but they seemed out of place at a true Metal festival... as did Killswitch. Whatever. Something for everyone I guess, but it's not for me.
What annoys me about A7X especially is this habit they have of pulling gigs all the time. Happened before in England a couple of years ago and they always make the lamest of excuses. They need to grow up and start taking a professional attitude or they'll lose the fans they have. But then again that'll happen anyway when those fans start sprouting tits.

Yeah DF I don,t go around insulting people if they are cool, and you didn't say anything bad so there is no reason for me to get on your case at all. Last time you attacked one of my friend but now you are not doing anything at all. Same for me, I mean if I attack one of your friend, you'll jump right in and that's normal.
As for black metal, like I said I don't like it but they are great and talented musicians. The music is very complex and deep. The main problem I have with black metal is mostly what they are talking about. As most of you know I am Christian so I can't really agree for what they stand for. Kali can tell you that I don't go around lecturing people about it, I let it be but on my part, they are waaaaaay to into satan for my taste. Look at Emperor, they had something huge going on, but one of the band memeber had to kill someone while some other had ti burn a church...wtf ?
17. writes:
Dark_Funeral, you gotta know by now that I'm a big fan of black and death metal.. most of my CDs are black and death.. Dimmu Borgir, Obituary, Mayhem, Cannibal Corpse, Darkthrone, Death, Vader, Behemoth, Amon Amarth, etc etc... I've got hundreds!
Kali, I still need to check out Watain.. what songs should I check out first??

Red, there is christian black metal out there. You may even be able to do a google search for christian bm and get a list-o-bands.
T.o.g, if you click on me profile and go to my myspace page Watain are on my top friends list. Just click on their page and they have songs posted for you to take a listen to.

i don't mind people having faith, i just don't want it shoved down my throat, which has been the story of the last 10 years of my life. i have been force fed christianity by my mom and i just don't see the "light" and everything else. i feel happier not believing in an afterlife and knowing that i am in control of my own destiny and that no "divine" entity can control weather i do good or wrong.
My mistakes are because i am human. i am flawed.

I would rather die believing in something than die believing in nothing!
46. writes:
Yeah I'd rather die believing in something too, well I will die believing in something. There is o way on earth that all the things around us are just some part of a big fat luck. Now that takes a lot of faith to say that the universe and the life in it just happen by pure luck.

"Look at Emperor, they had something huge going on, but one of the band memeber had to kill someone while some other had ti burn a church...wtf ?" - Ihsahn and Samoth were the masterminds of Emperor, not Faust. I feel sorry for you that you can't separate the figures and lyrics from the music, because the music is awesome. Didn't a former Judas Priest drummer rape some kid? Doesn't make Rob Halford any less of a singer.
"I would rather die believing in something than die believing in nothing!" - I think that's weak, I'd rather die believing in nothing than die believing in something I didn't believe whole heartedly.

About this whole religion and black metal thing, I listen to some black metal because the rhythms are good; it just takes you to a whole other atmosphere.
I've seen a few people say that Watain is very important to them. I like 'em too, along with Morgoth(not sure if it goes in that section) Mirrorthrone, Impiety, Nocturnus, Burzum, and Shining. (I just recently got into exploring black metal a few months ago)
As far as religion goes, I'm still exploring that category as well, but I respect everyone and their beliefs; I love learning about that stuff, but I must admit that I'm not the best person to ask about firm beliefs. If you have something to give your life to I admire you! The way things in this world work is really a thing of confusion, meaning and beauty all tossed in a blender ;if you think about it.
Post 49 perhaps? ^_^

Cynic: I completely understand what you mean about dying believing in nothing rather than not believing in something whole heartedly...that's why I struggle so much today.
I went through a bad "spiritual" phase in the past, it sucked (long story short) I still haven't found solid ground with my beliefs; I don't mind living the way I do now, but I'm afraid for what I am...what am I supposed to be living for? It's like I feel like I'm a coward for not choosing my side of the battlefield. I fear a firey death but that can't change my mind...I dunno.
Oh, and Gorgoroth is good. :)
56. writes:
I know what you mean Jenny, not even the most hardened nihilist would admit to enjoying having nothing to believe in. You've just got to fight for what you love in life! I find it even harder too, when I have friends of mine who are Christians but they tell me the only reason they are is because they're scared of the idea of hell. What sort of a religion/god would do such a thing? In general religion sucks for kids, I grew up in the sort of school where if you weren't Christian, you were a weirdo. And up until I was 13, I just accepted things as they were.
Oh and thanks for the heads up on the band Mirrorthrone too, I hadn't heard of them before but they sound interesting. Morgoth are awesome, a great example of old school death metal. I've only just got into Gorgoroth but I'm really enjoying "Under The Sign Of Hell," has some great almost classical sounding tracks.

Thanks kali! Lol, I spent a lot of time in my younger days arguing with Christian apologetics about god, to no avail. On the upside, I learned a lot about rational arguments etc - and my typing speed went up haha :P These days I realize you have to let some battles go before you wear yourself out.

Yes, that is a few important lessons to learn Cynic. I too have learned them. Especally what battles to fight. It's like me Mum always say's "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." I also think that everyone has a right to believe what ever they want. Even if it seems nucking futs to me.

godlike, how can you not like Black Metal?
LiquidMetal.77, unholy f*** its been a long a$$ time! (I was Azazel_begotten, and SexBloodandMetal, in case you didn't know. sh** has changed on my end alot as well)
Korndogg, I'm gonna quote you and reply:
"( and im sorry, but a big bang theory just doesnt do it for me)! I would rather die believing in something than die believing in nothing!"
---To believe in nothing simply means to believe more in yourself, thus making you stronger than you are as an ignoramus that feeds off religion like a baby to his mother's breast.
I stand against religion because religion is merely a placebo for those who don't want to think that death might just actually be the absolute end. Over the past 2000 years, Christians have killed and oppressed ten times more people in the name of god than the Nazis did in the name of racial cleansing. Now I neither doubt nor claim God's existence, but if God exists and is the omniscient, omnipresent entity that these tards kill and die for, then every corrupt priest and pope that lived in sin and acting as beasts in his name is burning in hell right now (and I'm gonna see all of them there). John Paul II is one of the few exceptions I will make as far as good Christians are concerned.
Let me tell you something that you probably didn't know: Pedophiles of the cloth is not a new thing, the only difference is that now, thanks to mass communications/mass media technology, they don't get away with it so easily. Martin Luther (the one who started the Lutheran church and the age of protestantism) went against the Catholic church because of their corruption. The specific documentary I saw was mentioning how the pope of his time would have naked boys jump out of his birthday cakes (I dare someone to try and Michael Jackson their way to justifying or making that NOT look wrong at all).
And finally, to believe in a fundamentalist contradictory book about a bipolar entity before believing in something backed by actual facts and written by intellectuals (Namely Einstein, and the Big Bang Theory) is just stupid on your part.
I hath spoken.
65. writes:
Cynic, I do have a hard time separating lyrics from music when they are serious about it. Look, for example I can listen to Cannibal Corpse because I know it's all fun for them. But Deicide, nah ha ! I said that they have great musicians in black metal, very talented but man are they evil.
Now to- Christ Fu...(gosh man your name makes me sick...sorry !) IÂ separate religion from faith. It is true that a lot of religion did do bad things and are still doing bad things. I was baptize Catholic but I don't really go to church, I read my Bible but I don't need somebody to tell me what to understand of it or what to do. That is not what God and Jesus meant by it. It's kind of stupid to put faith aside because of what religion is doing.
You can believe in what you want, not believing in anything is a belief as well. But please can you change your name. it is so offencive for no reason...would you at least consider it ?

Hey guys I been mad busy lately! So how's everyone? Nice to see LM back!
On the subject of religion, allow me to offer up a synopsis of atheism.
Aheism: The belief that there was nothing and then nothing happened to nothing and then nothing magically exploded for no reason, creating everything and then a bunch of everything rearranged itself for no reason whatsoever into self-replicating bits which then turned into dinosaurs.
Makes sense I guess
Then again, Christianity: The belief that a Jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.
Wow! They both make such good arguements!

Lol, I know you were joking but I'm a geek and can't help myself so "and then a bunch of everything rearranged itself for no reason whatsoever" was actual gravity and general laws of physics :P Also more seriously I think it's a fault for people to have a half arse look at the Big Band theory, which in itself requires some serious math skills to understand.
Hell, that's why religions around, because normal people are just no good at explaining natural phenomena things. And that's not a shot at Xtianity, I mean look at the Egyptians and their complex pantheon of gods. If I was alive 3000 years ago I'd have fallen for the "the sun is our god named Ra" story too.

sorry Red, but i let my hands go when it comes to religion...so forgive me before you read all of this haha
its difficult for me to believe i am created. i exist to exist.
perhaps its from reading the satanic bible but i believe that i can shape my life they way i want, follow my own path, and be strong as a result.
i am against all kinds of organized religion. being force fed catholicism most of my life i have realized that it is a faceless banner held by an imaginary deity that millions of sheep too ignorant of the world around them follow without a hitch.
I have studied history. the story of "the garden of eden" was written by ancient sumerians long before "the world was created". these ancient sumerians existed BEFORE your savior, their existance long unknown till many centurys after "he" was crucified. the garden of eden is actually "the epic of gilgamesh" sure that sounds far fetched but when you're home sick and the history channel is the only thing on, well. History has also proven that christianity is the largest, coniving, greedy, murderous cult in history. Christf***er's post is believable to me. Christians have slaughtered more innocent people "in the name of god" than the nazis. Untold scores of women and children were slain by the crusaders to take jerusalem, a city that did not belong to them in the first place.
I agree with Cynic as well. Human's need something to blame for the faults, so why not sin? All of these god fearing sheep are so afraid, the thought of death freightens them. Have they not acheived the realization that they, as well as the non believers will perish and be put in the ground just like everyone else.
There is no devil. There is no god, jesus, moses, mouhammad, Flying Spaghetti Monster(Pastafarian is a legit religion aparantly). Religion exists for 1 purpose only. Morals. Our ancient ancestors were raised on these morals. Compassion. Empathy. Sympathy, etc. The fact that religion has survived so long astounds me.
However, i believe we all know right and wrong without people telling us what it is.

Red, theres a scripture the Catholics got rid of from their bible that backs you up. Jesus (I believe he existed, I don't believe he was God though) said something to the effect of "Worship me in the temple of your mind"...something like that. Basically saying that you don't need to go to church to be a good christian. Catholics got rid of that part for the sake of profit. And I most likely won't change the username (However I was tossing Christkiller in my mind). Though I respect your views and beliefs Red (as you respect mine) I change what I want, when I want. If it changes, it won't be because you or Korndogg want me to. Sorry, I'm naturally stubborn.
I stand behind Kalis, Oz, and everyone else...

O.k I am being totally objective here and mean no offence Christfvcker. If you truly did respect Red and Korndogg's faith and mean no offence to them your name say's a whole other story. I do like your name don't get me wrong, and am an advocate for expressing ones self, but to them its a slap in the face to read and hard for them to type due to their religion.

Well thanks for considering it Christ you know what, LOL. And thanks for being an understanding guy in people's belief. I respect were you come from and what you believe in. Don't worry I don't get preachy on anyone. I mean I made a choice, you made a choice and in the end my choice doesn't make me any better than anyone. It makes ME better toward myself.
Plus I am not those type of Christian that think that the creation of the universe happened exactly like the Bible says. I think it's just a story to express how it happened and the 7 days is just a metaphor. I don't know why Christians freak out about evolution either. Why not ? I mean maybe God wanted things to evolve slowly and you need evolution to survive in this universe. If you can't evolve then every time there is a small change the species will die. We adapt and that's normal.
The main thing about the creation of the universe is that God created it. How long it took, how he did it is irrelevant. Some hard a$$ Christians focus on stupid things like that and I believe that if they need to be so string headed and scared of everything or every debate on the subject, it is because their faith is not as strong as we think.
I don't freak out on science, science doesn't discredit God nor the other way around. I don't freak out on evolution, I mean that's just a clever way to adapt. I don't freak out on the big bang and the likes. It doesn't say that God doesn't exist. It just say that God doesn't exist when you take Genesis word for word and that you don't try to understand that it is a way to explain to creation of the universe like a story.

As far as religion goes, I don't know what to believe.. I've taken countless college courses and read countless books on all kinds of religions and I have to say, there seems to be aspects of each that I agree with.. for example, why would "God" need a son if "He" were an almighty deity? Also, would "God" even need a gender? But as far as believing in some sort of higher power, I don't even know if I do.

as far as beliefs go, im a little more flexible now than before because ive realized that there are no absolutes, but of course, im not absolutely sure about that...
the reason people get in such heated arguments about beliefs is that they all think that they are correct, its human nature.

red, im totally with you. what people dont realize is that the creation stuff in genesis was originally a poem, and most likely not supposed to be taken literally. just imagine writing a fictional exaggerated poem that you were inspired to write and thousands of years later people are taking it literally.
personally i think god is a higher dimensional being, that makes sense to me.
christf***er, i think what we're called is liberal christians. thats the term ive always heard anyway. conservatives take the bible word for word and condemn people too much and extremists just blowing everything away as secular.

If there really is a God and he takes certain people for this "devine plan"
He must be a really selfish individual...... cause Ive been witness to this so called God take the lives of some undeserving and innocent people...!! Whether they were family members and friends or the thousands that died during the Tsunami in Myanmaar... or the earthquakes in China....
The ol lady is always telling me that Im gonna go to hell.....because of sins like smoking dope and doing lots of drugs when I was younger etc.... If there really is a Hell.... and its things like drinking and doing drugs that decide if people end up there....... as Ive told her on several occasions...
