Dallas Ozzfest 2008 To Feature Metallica, Ozzy Ozbourne and Rigor Mortis

Blabbermouth.net is reporting that this summer's Ozzfest will consist of two separate two-day (Saturday/Sunday) events — one of which will be held in Dallas — in late July/early August, with OZZY OSBOURNE headlining one day and METALLICA the other.
Reactivated Texas thrash/speed metallers RIGOR MORTIS have now announced via their MySpace page that they are confirmed for Ozzfest 2008 in Dallas on Saturday, August 9. METALLICA will apparently close out the show this night.
RIGOR MORTIS will perform with its original lineup consisting of Bruce Corbitt (TEXAS METAL ALLIANCE), Mike Scaccia (MINISTRY, REVOLTING COCKS, BLOHOLE), Casey Orr (GWAR, MITRA, X-COPS, THE HELLIONS, BLOHOLE), and Harden Harrison (MITRA, PERVIS, SPEEDEALER).
The Ozzfest reports come in the wake of this year's arrival of the metal-oriented Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour, which will play 30 North American amphitheaters during July and August, the time when Ozzfest is traditionally making its rounds.
Last year's Ozzfest offered free admission, with fans acquiring tickets mostly through sponsoring web sites. But the acts were not paid either, which resulted in a decidedly less than impressive main stage lineup. The Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour trek has already robbed Ozzfest of two potential main-stage heavyweights in DISTURBED and SLIPKNOT, with fan favorites DRAGONFORCE and MASTODON also taking part in the Mayhem tour.

So, this article reads like OZZFEST is only 2 shows in TX and that Ozzfest isnt gonna happen this year cause of the Energy Drink tour and that DIsturbed/Slipknot are doing their own double bill?
If Ozzfest was to be more, it should have been announced already. I remember when OZZFEST line ups would announced between Feb and April--This week is already going into May...
In Mass with the NE Metal and Hardcore Fest and Locobazookas here==plus they are held on weekends, seem to make Ozzfest less attractive lately anyways.

In my opinion, the details of the fest should have been announced already period. If you are trying to re-brand something this big, you don't want to wait too long to reveal the details. The US could certainly use some monster festivals so bands can plan to play them as stops on their US tours. That's why the European summer circuit is so popular with bands. They can do massive festival appearances as a tour and optionally tour in between dates. But if Ozzfest holds off too long in confirming, bands can't plan a stop there, the event gets under-promoted, and it could be doomed to under-perform before it happens.

Agreed Deathbringer. Another thing I would have addd is that many fans plan out monitarily and intellectualy what tours they want to see based on the tour line up. There are alot of fests that are great and even the diehard fans are abandoning OzzFest due to the fact that there are; a. other fests and b. OzzFest is being too slow to get their line up announced and confirmed. Furthermore I know alot of people who are outraged at the rumored line up. People are not going to go to OzzFest just because its OzzFest when a better is out there plain and simple.

yeah, and some of us have, like, jobs, and have to budget, and get time off work, and can't just drop everything to go-- we need to have some notice. you can't plan monster tour like a bunch of regional amateurs.
that said-- metallica has sucked bawls since they kicked jason out. actually, since jimmy boy cut his hair and tried to "sing" instead of just throw down. save me, please, from unforgiven, spew.

In some cases, Ozzfest sucks/kicks-ass depending on where you are. I've seen some vids of last year's freefest in Hartford, and no offense to anyone from there, but it looked so lame and pathetic that it just made me angry. Every other place seemed to do okay though, from what I've seen. Here down in Florida, however, it was the sh** for me. Hands down amazing. I personally thought the lineup was great, and my 20-odd group of companioning metalheads kicked the sh** out of half the people in the moshpits. both Devildriver and LoG had amazing mosh pits, and knew how to rile up the crowd fiercely.
Besides, any show where I get to see tits is worth it, imo. :D
