Metal Underground has received the following Burzum press release:

"This one-man band retains a vital roll in the early development of Norway’s famed black metal scene. His contributions to what was once merely a small circle of friends grew to immense popularity, the genre now having sold hundreds of thousands of records around the globe. Compared to his peers - Mayhem, Darkthrone, Gorgoroth, Immortal - Burzum possessed a very distinct sound. Using ancient mythology as his
lyrical muse (the very name Burzum coming from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings), he became known for fearless experimentation; each record expanding on previous efforts."

"Anthology is a special first-time collection of material that spans the musician’s ten-plus year recording legacy; most unfortunately still unavailable for US fans (other than pricey imports). Featuring selections from each of his six albums (and including one from his popular EP Aske), Anthology is anticipated to be a highly sought-after recording for long-time fans and those curious newcomers who up-til-now only knew of the name and not had opportunity to bear witness to the musician’s blackened fruit."

Who doesn't love Burzum, this sounds like it will be a great intro to the band - fingers crossed Varg gets out soon and does some more recording.

On that note - is I wonder what the news is with that? I read that he's seeking parole this very month so hopefully he'll get the nod.

Now Playing: Type O Negative - "World Coming Down"

I might have to pick this up. I've been recommended Burzum by many people, but have always been turned off by the low production and the whole socialist / racial superiority thing, but having all his best work in one place might be worth it.

Anybody else read his version of how that fateful night with Euronymous went down? It's very interesting that what he says happened is a whole lot different than what the authorities said happened. I wonder if the truth isn't somewhere in between.

Lol, I don't know whether the previous post was a joke or not but that's one of the funniest things I've read on MU!

xFiruath - Definately check Burzum out. I always think Filosofem makes a good introduction to the band if you're not a BM fanatic because it had a wide appeal (got great reviews from indie and mainstream sources).

Now Playing: Rush - "Armor And Sword"

I will never defend the man's politics (Neither will i rant against them cause who am i to judge? It's not like my views are perfect) but his music is some of the best I have ever heard. Filosofem is a great album but I prefer Hviss Tar Lysett Oss and Det Some. Is this supposed to be a compilation? If so than it is obviously against the wishes of Varg because I've read on his website that he hates compilations, mini lps, and eps (he says he regrets releasing Aske).
