Cynic To Record New Album

Quality technical metal connoisseurs and open-minded music-lovers in general will be delighted to hear that Florida’s legendary CYNIC have returned to creative power after a successful European re-union tour in the summer of 2007 and will soon be recording a new album, their second after 1993’s genre-shattering “Focus” debut.

CYNIC founding members Paul Masvidal (guitars / vocals) and Sean Reinert (drums), who both gained reputation and praise while performing alongside Chuck Schuldiner and DEATH in the recording and touring lineup for the milestone album “Human,” are currently in Sanford, Florida, working on the mix for three new demo tracks together with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, etc.) at his own Audiohammer Studios. The three new tracks are entitled “Integral Birth,” “Evolutionary Sleeper,” and “Adam’s Murmur,” but Masvidal and Reinert have already written a full album’s worth of new material and the band will use the demo to begin talks with record companies about a 2008 release.

Masvidal comments, “I’m amazed that we’re here again, and that is a testament to the unpredictable beauty of the creative process. We received so much inspiration during last summer’s reunion tour that a flood of new material has since poured out of us. There must be a default metal root in us from childhood that insists on being watered and loved, so we’re just trying to keep up with ourselves — the CYNIC sirens are screaming inside and won’t let up! Our policy has always been about surrendering to what feels most organic and staying in the flow. To put it mildly, this last year has been a creatively abundant and productive period. We’re intoxicated about now and the future.”

I can't wait for this to come out. If their new song called Evolutionary Sleeper is any indication to how the new album will sound, then i'm sure it's going to kick ass

This is a risky thing to do. I prefer the At the Gates idea and not ruin their legacy which is what I think Mercyful Fate did when they started releasing new material.

HOLY f***ING GOD!!!!111!1111!!!! My life is complete!! I can die happy!

I am a pretty spastic fan, I've learned at least a section from each track off Focus on guitar, have all their demo tracks, hence the name etc. Had a minor leg surgery recently so only saw this randomly looking through past news.

To cruor - with a lot of other bands I'd agree... but this is Cynic. Paul Masvidal is a creative genius and I was blown away by the new track "Evolutionary Sleeper". They've simply got too much talent to fail. That said though I'd say this is going to be a different beast to Focus, probably alot less metal and more spacey stuff like "Celestial Voyage".

Happiness.

I'll be first in line at Ear-Xtacy for this. Depending on what label these guys hook up with, it's the only place I can be sure to get it at release. I'm with Cynic (the man, not the band) this can't fail.

Now Playing: Opeth - "Under the Weeping Moon"

I am not saying that they can't pull it off I mean it is Cynic of course, I am merely saying that if the off chance that they don't release something solid through and through I think that puts a huge black mark on their legacy, but if Celtic Frost can have a successful reunion release than why not Cynic?
