Meshuggah Drummer Discusses New Album

Drummer Tomas Haake of the Swedish experimental extreme metallers MESHUGGAH recently spoke to Decibel magazine about the group's forthcoming CD, "obZen", due in Germany on March 7, 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records (with the U.S. release likely on March 11). The follow-up to 2005's "Catch Thirty Three" will contain nine songs and will have a running time of around 55 minutes.
Commented Haake: "The album is much more dense, while still being very clear and audible as far as drumparts and guitar riffs. Lyrically it's quite different from 'Catch Thirty Three', more diverse. There is, however, somewhat of a 'red line' or concept running through all of them."
"obZen" track listing:
01. Combustion
02. Electric Red
03. Bleed
04. Lethargica
05. ObZen
06. This Spiteful Snake
07. Pineal Gland Optics
08. Pravus
09. Dancers To A Discordant System
MESHUGGAH will support MINISTRY on the North American leg of "C U LaTouR" beginning on March 26 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Also appearing on the bill is HEMLOCK.

Cynic: Indeed! One of my biggest finds last year.
I've been cycling backwards through Jarzombek's (Spastic Ink!) career since the discovery. I had read that members of Hate Eternal, Watchtower, LOG and CC all had ties to Blotted Science and lost my mind when I finally heard it.

Anyone here heard Meshuggah's early demo with the thrash metal vibe? Aside from the out of place vocals I thought it was pretty cool. Future Breed Machine is hands down my favourite track of theirs.
Oh and Watchtower are probably my 3rd favourite band of all time! Which may sound weird but it's pretty big praise from me! Spastic Ink is amazing too, some of the most incredible bass solos are on those albums.

I really like listening to Meshuggah in small dosages...man..they are incredible! I find it difficult to listen to the whole album without taking little breaks.... Meshuggah is fukkin awesome, though, and I am sure the new album is gonna be killer. Nobody sounds like Meshuggah. I am glad I discovered this band because I used to not know a thing about them. I would just sees tons of fans..wearing Meshuggah t-shirts. 2008 is gonna be a good year for metal! We need more texas metal bands, though.

Focus is right on the money, it is like Nothing but faster...this album is amazing and well...I don't recall not liking one of their album. Everybody that tried to copy them failed. Plus I don't know how they do it but they sound so f***ing nasty all the way. Of course 8 strings guitar will do that.
