Earache Records have cancelled plans to issue an Iron Monkey DVD after the death of former vocalist John Paul Morrow on June 22, 2002.
"Johnny Morrow came in to see us about two months ago with the proposed footage for the Iron Monkey DVD from his personal collection — he had live tapes spanning all eras of the band. It was a mutual decision between us and the band, to be released with their full co-operation and including interviews with the ex members," said Earache owner Digby Pearson to England's Rock Sound magazine. "The idea was that since Monkey had split not many people had really witnessed the power of them in the live setting — they were a truly incendiary band, one of the U.K. greats — with one of the most charismatic frontmen ever. You couldn't keep your eyes off Johnny in case you missed what he was gonna do on stage next...sadly, there is nothing available for newer fans of the band to see, and we wanted to rectify that. All plans for the proposed DVD are now shelved obviously. He'll be sadly missed."
Morrow was frontman for Murder 1 and My War, but most notably for Iron Monkey, where he was "a madman on stage" but also one of "kindest, funniest, most honest, mischievous" guys in music. He died of a heart attack in his sleep that was brought on by years of kidney dialysis. Morrow was 27-years old at the time of his passing.
