Elis Announces New Singer

Liechtenstein-based gothic metal group ELIS - whose lead singer, Sabine Dünser , who suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on July 7, 2006 during rehearsal and passed away the following day in hospital - has issued the following update:
"Now the time has come to disclose the secret about our new singer! Sandra Schleret will do the vocals for ELIS in the future! Sandra comes from Innsbruck (Austria) and stood behind the microphone for various bands, among others for DREAMS OF SANITY and SIEGFRIED. She did also guest appearances for SAMAEL. She impressed us with her voice and her personality and we guess that she fits perfect to ELIS!
"We want to thank all of the candidates once again dearly and we wish all of you the best of luck on your further path!"
ELIS's latest album, "Griefshire", was released in Europe on November 24 via Napalm Records. The recordings for the CD were completed prior to the death of Dünser , who came up with the original concept for the album.
Dünser was born June 27, 1977 and joined ELIS, then still known as ERBEN DER SCHOPFUNG, in 2001.
The follow-up to 2004's "Dark Clouds in a Perfect Sky", "Griefshire" was completed at Mastersound Studios in Stuttgart with producer Alexander Krull (ATROCITY, LEAVES' EYES).

amongthedead, I beg to differ on that...I can listen to any Lacuna Coil song, and Christina Scabbia's voice stands out. I see your point though, its like guitarists, listen to a song with a certain solo style, and you know right off the bat that its Dimebag playing (God Rest Him). But I think Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil has a voice that is only recognizable with her only.

I know very little about this particular group....I've only heard a select few songs from one album via a friend.
They have a more traditional metal elements in their music than Lacuna Coil has had in awhile(ever). They're more firmly steeped in something approaching an authentic euro-goth flavor, than Lacuna Coil have been since "Unleashed Memories" and "In a Reverie".....None of that nu-metal that Lacuna Coil dumped on everyone with "Karmacode".
Vocally...Their first singer has a touch of Bjorks mid-range (not the lows, certainly not the highs and none of the wierd quirks) but also similar to Drain DTH's Maria Sjöholm....The style works but it's also pretty derivative, and the lyrics weren't particularly memorable...but not all bad either.

Your angle isn't without merit, there a lot of samey female vocalists....tons of great ones who are relative unknowns but they don't distinguish themselves at all....I haven't found a female vocalist with the lyrical prowess and vocal range of Maynard Keenan, the search continues....
Very few female singers tread into growly/screamy territory and the few that do suck(Candace Kucsulain of WOJ) or sing alongside sh**ty music (Otep, Morgan Lander of Kittie, Lacey Mosley of Flyleaf and Amy Lee....very gifted singer with the worst band and lyrics this side of Limp Bizkit)...
It's a tough find...Nightwish and Draconian are pretty good bets though, if a tad melodramtic....I'll piss myself when I find the perfect female vocalist with a strong "metal" band behind her.
me talky long time...

I dont know about anyone else, but i dont really care for girl singers in the metal world of music. I mean, their ok, but they dont seem to have an originality to their voices. Now hear me out first, I'm not being sexist or anything of the sort, but everyone can agree that men have originality to them. Look at Ozzy, sounds completely different from Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir. Bands liek Kitty have a screamer that sounds like any other screamer. Like Cradle of Filth, they have a girl singer who sounds almost exactly like Courtney Love.... Whom I hate... I just havent been able to find a girl singer who can cut it off. Otep's singer is ok at it, and in my opinion is the most original female singer around the metel genre. But does anyone see what i mean by all this?
