Stone Sour's Corey Taylor, Jim Root Felt Like Hired Hands In Slipknot

Band Photo: Slipknot (?)
Kyle Munson of DesMoinesRegister.com recently conducted an interview with vocalist Corey Taylor (STONE SOUR, SLIPKNOT). A few excerpts from the chat follow:
DesMoinesRegister.com: You do seem to increasingly have found your songwriting voice with STONE SOUR, with songs such as "Through Glass" that bring in a broader pop audience.
Corey: When I joined SLIPKNOT, I joined a band that had existed before and there were a lot of things that I had to kind of adjust to. Even over the years, me and Jim — we talked about this — we always felt like we were kind of the hired guns, even though, you know, we helped build this to where it was, it never felt like it was our baby. And rightly so, because it's been Shawn's and Paul's and Joey's from day one. So, you know, we've contributed and we've helped and it's our life and it's what we love to do. But at the same time STONE SOUR has always felt more of like our thing, you know. It's always felt more of, like, this is our family, this is where we really get to do the stuff, like anything that we want to do. But it is what it is — you can go either way with it, really. There's a lot of stuff that I can't do with STONE SOUR that I can do with SLIPKNOT, and I love the fact that I have that freedom.

I don't buy this. He's only speaking highly of Stone Sour now because he's not in a jumpsuit and mask. If he were touring with Slipknot right now, he'd give a similar speech, but the gist would be that he somehow feels more pride and love for Slipknot than Stone Sour.
My point is this: A musician will always speak highest of the band they're in NOW and the material they're releasing NOW and the tour they're on NOW. They will always find a way to make it seem like the best product for the consumer. Way to gain credibility, Corey.

post 5 pretty much has it.
I've never heard/read Root and Taylor slagging off on Stonesour but they (as with the rest of the band) are happy to tell you how hard they busted a$$ to get where they are today, which ofcourse is not in question.
I have to say that neither band is that epic making to me but they both seem like labors of love, even if they could stand a heaviness overhaul and some better lyrics.

I don't think I agree so much with post 5-I don't think Taylor is disrespecting SlipKnot-he's just simply stating that he has autonomy in his current situation. If you aren't a founding member of a band that has a style-its easy to feel like your on the outside. Many artist do solo project for just this reason-so they can do something completely in their voice.

Okay all honesty, Slipknot may not be the best in Metal, but I read up on Shawn Crahan aka 'Clown'. Dude, he took remains of his father's ashes to make artwork. Also, he's taking care of his mother, who has Alzheimer's disease, and his wife, who has Crohn's disease...Neither of those diseases are a joke either...He talked deeply about how he pretty much has to prepare his kids/himself for the death of their mother/his wife, and how much him and his family have to go through with the Mrs.' ailments...Its very saddening to hear that especially in regards to how much he loves his wife, and then to find out that this disease will more than likely kill her. It was deep to read...way too deep...Maybe Slipknot isn't anything historical, but truth be told, they've had great struggles in life, and Shawn Crahan has the greatest life struggle of the 9...And he sure as fvck ain't no pvssy...I'm someone who judges not only on skill level, but also on the way someone lives their life...Maybe 'Knot ain't known for its skill (apart from Joey Jordison and Mick Thompson, and even Sid), but they lead lives nonetheless

to this day i still like slipknot, i just dont like the exposure and the image (the amount of mallcore, oversized pant wearing little sh**s that listen to them) they get. yes they're overrated but they're still enjoyable (even though iowa was a disaster).
in regards of stone sour, they sold out. they get played on the local pop/rap/p***y rock station. their sound just isnt strong enough to keep from appealing to the wrong part of the masses, and lyrics meh...

Bands don't sell songs to radio stations...Labels do. And Iowa the album is a disaster because metaphorically Iowa the state (where I happen to live) is a disaster. If you don't like a band, don't pay them any attention. That's all anyone in the music business looks at (excluding a select few): How much attention is So-And-So getting? Attention equals money, and labels love money. So if an artist gets no attention they'll usually get dropped, because it takes too much money to promote.

well, honest alex, i dont listen too that many slipknot. but of the few i have heard i can barely hear the turntables. so i do apologise if i havent intepreted the whole dj thing properly.
slipknot are pretty good, but good in the "i sure would like to hear them on the radio" and not "i sure would like to buy albums" way. probably just me though.
