Sepultura's Derrick Green Reacts To Max Cavalera's Reunion Talk

Washington D.C.'s Express recently conducted an interview with SEPULTURA frontman Derrick Green. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
Express: Did you feel like you won the lottery when you became SEPULTURA's new singer in 1996?
Green: Yeah, definitely, as a musician, having a whole new challenge in front of me. It's a lot of work, you know? There's a lot of work that goes into being in the band and being able to move to a different country and adapt a different language. There were a lot of things that went into being in this band. It's been an amazing journey.
Express: What are your future plans for SEPULTURA?
Green: To come back here and do some festivals, to really make ourselves known again here. To get on some hot bills with young bands and some older bands. There's a big part of the world we haven't played yet: Asia, a lot of Central America, South Africa.
Express: You must know that [original SEPULTURA vocalist] Max [Cavalera] has been telling the media that he'll be reuniting with the group. How does that strike you?
Green: It struck me as kind of strange. Nobody in our band's talked to him in years. I think it's something that he wants to do and I thought: After 10 years, why now? We've been supporting the band and keeping it alive after he left. I feel that I'm a part of the band and people see me as part of the band. I think it's kind of bizarre, but I'm not that surprised.

max is sepultura. no offense dude25 but has it ocurred to you that without max and now igor, sepultura shouldn't even be called sepultura. the cavalera brothers were and will continue to be(even if they're not in sepultura anymore) the heart and soul of sepultura. as far as derrik the frontman. i will never think of him as the frontman because max is the only frontman sepultura could ever have.

everyone was like 'reunite reunite reunite' and as soon as they did and they started putting on f***ing awesome shows, everyone started b****ing...
if sep reunite theres gonna be people on msg boards everyone shouting "bring back Derrick (eat your) Green(s)"
but thats my opinion on the matter at hand

max is a self absorbed jackass that broke away to start a new metal band....do i have to say anything else after that?
everything he has done has gone to sh**..including sepultura...he needs to start thinking about how much soulfly sucks...then maybe take up a new career in real estate...or maybe a dog catcher...lets not hero worship a guy who left one of the greatest bands ever...to be more trendy...

I saw derrick with sepultura at the state theater in maine back in '98 and he did a ok job filling in,but let's face it,the music they have put out since MAX left just does'nt cut it!! I would be willing to pay top $dollar to see MAX play with sepultura,because i never got to see them when max was in the line up! I have to agree with dominate "MAX IS SEPULTURA"...

Ok. Igor hasn't been in the band since June. And as far as I know they plan to change the name, as neither Paulo or Andreas were founding members. Why would a reunion even occur? I can't see it happening for a looong time. At least until the dust settles around Igor leaving, and the band Sepultura hasn't been around for awhile.

SEPULTURA is nothing without max cavalera, like Killadelphia said nobody does it better than MAX, i mean derrick's vocals suck compared to max's, i don't know why the fu*k he left in the 1st place. ever catch derrick live? he SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSS, especially when he tries to sing max's songs like roots and attitude. no offense derrick, thanks for keepin' em alive but if max is comin' back, u don't stand a chance...

Right. The thing is I view Derrick in Sepultura like I view Dio in Sabbath in the sense that I prefer the stuff that both bands did with the original singers but both seconds did some very cool stuff with the band. I would go so far as to say that some of the stuff Derrick did was better than the Max stuff 'cause in my honest opinion, the first few Sep albums were really generic but at least Derrick brought a new dimension to the group. Again, if they had a full reunion, I would kill to go but bands change, for example, isn't Gary Holt the only original member of Exodus? Plus no-one slags Napalm Death off but there's NO original members in there!

my first sep cd was "against" and i thought that cd was f***ing great and it still is to me. after a while i got more into them and found out that max was the original frontman, and in my opinion i would much rather have max than derick, their old sh** tops it all it's, f***ing great, they are definitaly #1 in my book, but i'm still a fan of the new stuff as well, and i'm a big fan of soulfly. But i don't see any reason why sepultura should not get togetther for a reunion tour. There is obviously a sh**load of people(including my self) who would love to see that. i havn't seen them live yet and i would definetly want it to be with the original members. not that i wouldn't want to them as is. but for a first time.... any way , hopefully they can figure somthing out. lets hope for the best.

Its been 10 years and why NOT reform the band??? alot of bands today get back together and tour and i think the fans want to see the original Sepultura line up, i know i do!.... Max and Igor are brothers so you think that they should never talk again because its been 10 years?? you really are f***ed up!..No body sings it better then Max! your just afraid you'll lose your status as part of the band. Get it straight Derrick you are not Sepultura! you never were and you will never be! ......Heres to Max and Sepultura Cheers! see you on tour!
