Evanescence Post 'Lithium' Video Online
EVANESCENCE's video for "Lithium", the second single from the band's new album, "The Open Door", has been posted online: Windows Media, Real Media.
Unlike the Little Red Riding Hood concept for the "Call Me When You're Sober" video, which was an abstract take on somewhat literal lyrics, the follow-up is a literal take on somewhat abstract lyrics, according to MTV.com.
"So it's not so in-your-face to make the video more literal," singer Amy Lee told MTV.com about the video, which Paul Fedor (SARAH MCLACHLAN, SEETHER) directed based on her concept. "Really, though, I think it's all about touching somebody and I hope it does that."
"Lithium" is about making the choice between the comfort of sorrow and the idea of happiness.
"You get in these cycles where you're stuck in bad situations or relationships or whatever and it's hard to make yourself get out even though it's negative and hard," Lee explained. "So that's sort of what it's about, breaking free."
She chose the title "Lithium", which is also the name of a classic NIRVANA song, because it's "a metaphor for happiness from a negative point of view." "It's looking at it like, 'I don't want to numb myself and not feel anymore,' " added Lee.

As for female vocalists.....I put her right up there with Ann Wilson and Doro Pesch for that matter...Not only is she easy on the eyes, she has a fantastic voice too..!!!!!!! Now, I am not saying that I own any Evanescence music, but I would rather listen to that, than any of this MCR type $hit...!!!!!!!!!

8. writes:
If Evanescence named a song "Stairway to Heaven", "Master of Puppets" or "War pigs" while maintaining the lyrical theme of the first song, I bet most would consider that laziness bordering on theft....
I'm all for supporting a band that you enjoy but anyone who defends this song title is flying in the face of reason. That song title, with that theme is as trite as a ballad titled "Love song".
I have the awareness to own up to one of my favorite bands doing something cheap...
Star says to "get over it"...I'm amused, not upset.

Okay, now before I admit something that may put my 'kvlt kred' on this site...Let me say something first...
A friend of mine was able to get me nearly limitless ability to get songs from iTunes. So while I was getting nearly 2,000 songs from the iTunes music store, I stumbled upon some Evanescence, and I said "Eh what the hell" and got the new album ("The Open Door") and this other album where she did unreleased sh*t and a cover of a Korn song called "Anywhere but Home"...Okay now I'm gonna start off with 'Anywhere but Home'---I only got a few songs from the CD, The Korn cover (Korn used to be my favorite band, leave me alone), and I'll admit, I liked the cover of Korn's 'Thoughtless' that they played. The others I got were 'Missing' and 'Farther Away', and they were pretty good, and I wonder why they didn't make their debut album...Now, I also got the new album, 'The Open Door', because 1)I might not classify them as most Metal, but they have nice style. and 2)I love Amy Lee's vocals the most (among her other assets. Fvck off, we've established that I'm a guy)...Now, I saw it was titled 'Lithium' and I did think at first it was a Nirvana cover
Now here's what I'm ashamed to say....I listened to the song, and I love every fvcking minute of it...I don't care what it was titled...Maybe it was because of my emotional down from the depression I suffer, and her voice in that song just got to me to a point, where if I was anymore down from my problems, I'd have broken into tears listening to that girl sing her heart out, but it got to me nonetheless...I don't know why I love it so much, but I do. Its a beautiful song, and I love listening to it, and it has something of a deeper meaning for me, maybe its because if you just replaced 'Lithium' with 'Hard Liquor', you've got a song that sums up my life....I don't know...But I love the song, and honestly, I don't care what its titled...
I swear to god, if I ever see her, I will kiss that girl like she's never been kissed for making and singing that damned song...And I'm gonna level with you lot, she could've been ugly as sin, but that voice alone would make me fall for her regardless...Do not ask why I'm weird like that, but things like certain female vocals do that to me...And Amy is the fortunate voice that does that to me...Yes, I know I've likely lost my mind...Shut up...
13. writes:
LOL !!!! I'm not the biggest EVEANESSENCE fan but I can appreciate Amy's voice and yes I'd do her too. That saide I can't really get upset about the name of the song.Because this happen's alot over the course of popular music history.
From what I understand you can't copy right the name of a song but your lyric's and music must be way different.(I could be wrong)Apparently that's the case here(at work againe still can't listen just yet.)Anyway I'm a bit more partial to Lacuna Coil.So although yes I'd do Amy.Christina's my first choice.

14. writes:
After this long, Its bound do get to the point that song titles are gonna be used over again..there are only so many words in the English language...
Its somewhat similar to guitar riffs...there are only so many chords to use...there are ALOT of songs out there that sound similar or have the same chords .... Different tunings and chord structurings help hide it..but its inevitable..
Hell look at AC/DC..Angus has been using the same G C D chords for 30 years...oh yeah sometimes he throws in a B and E..

16. writes:
I don't think it matters. If that's the case, then we need to look back and see who named what first in every genre of music. For all I know there's some old blues or jazz song called lithium, but it doesn't matter. That's why bands have names so we can say have you heard the song ''lithium'' by whoever.

18. writes:
I can see where this is going...and the extent of my point is being missed at least in part.
My angle isn't that you can't name a song something that has already been used...That would render at least 20% or more of my music derivative by default.
What I'm stating is that one should -avoid- the pitfall of mining a familiar subject and use a title that has ---very clearly--- been used before in a obvious specific instance....
People would be throwing up their breakfast on these threads if Amy Lee had named a song "War Pigs" or "Master of Puppets" but used different lyrics and music but kept THE EXACT SAME THEME....
Am I wrong?........

19. writes:
OK, so I finally took the plunge and watched the video. WOW...what an incredible voice....this woman gives me shivers..!! and I aint cold..!!!!
I liked Drain sth ALOT..even though the music was quite simple.!! And I am a big fan of Lacuna Coil.... but now I might have to go to Limewire and get me some Evanescence tunes...although I would prefer videos...!!!!

21. writes:
gracias.
I only wish Amy Lee would have had more daring/talented band members, the same could be said for Flyleafs vocalist....the music is just too retread for me.
Her voice is fantastic but the music is so generic sounding....
Lacuna Coil were doing great until their most recent album(Karmacode). I'm a big fan of Comalies, In a Reverie and Unleashed Memories though. Drain STH were hit and miss but they had the AIC chains style harmonies -down-...Kinda grunge meets nu-metal..but it worked sometimes.

22. writes:
I was just reading that Drain sth has broke up and they are all doing there own things... I wonder if they would be interested in doing some porno's with me.???
And, yes I agree that the new Lacuna Coil is a far cry from being as good as their previously released offerings...Comalies was great..!!!
As soon as Amy Lee answers my phone calls, she will be working with some better talent..But what she is doing now is definatly working for her, and its making her lots of money....So why not ride it out...
How many other bands have made careers, using the same cookie cutter to make numerous albums..??
23. writes:
BLACKDOG, I don't normally asy this, but yeah you can say you'd fvck her, but I would actually MAKE LOVE TO AMY LEE for making that song (And yes I see a difference between sex and making love)...I have officially lost my mind...And whatever 'kvlt kred' I had here...
RM? I got your point, but still I don't care what she called it...
godlike, I think Christina Scabbia is the hottest, but I never judge on looks alone...I'm a really weird guy...
"I was just reading that Drain sth has broke up and they are all doing there own things... I wonder if they would be interested in doing some porno's with me.???"
---once again, I laugh hard...

believe me i may be an a$$ but i'm more mature since i debuted here........
but anyways....i gotta say that i'm surprised i see 100% positive responses from an evanescene thread for the first time.......
it seems like they actually hit da jackpot this time.....so are they really better than before?
i don't know but i like both fallen and the new sh** almost alike........i have three songs downloaded there...."call me when you're sober" which is first single and it not bad for minstream hit and the other two are..."like you" which is awesome and better than da f***in single...and "weight of th world"
have not heard lithium but i heard about it before....and i thought it was a nirvana cover....it not actually since i read da lyrics......however evanscene did cover "heart shaped box" from nirvana......
and azazel post towards the band is the greatest sh** i've heard toward evanescene.....now i actually wanna hear dat song.......but i think he exxagerated like f***........and no offense dude but ye sound like f***in whiny emo talkin about problems......but i did like most of it.....

Just wanting to say that I have now went back and listened to this song again..and again... Yeah, its another song about an unhappy woman..there has been a zillion of them..and there will be many more...I am sure of it...
But this woman has a voice that is simply phenominal...I dont care if its got the same name as a Nirvana song or not... I hated Nirvana and still do...!!!!!

35. writes:
Ive read the first few comments an im a bit peed off. Yeah i own some of their music, but its kind of in the context as lithium is a mood stabilizing drug and the songs about happy but numb or sad but feeling. so it kind of is the only name for it. Amys fit, has nice eyes and is an AMAZING singer, no matter what u say.

38. writes:
Comments always end up as arguements. :) But anyways I think that the title was a good pick it fits right in with the song. I like Evanescence and its style and I really dont get this whole name thing. Its just a name....
Anywho I bet someone has something to say about my comment and go ahead I'll probably never see it.
39. writes:
LadyMetal, I think I will come up with a better name for it, but only for the sake of this little argument...
But first, lets look at the lyrics (Meanwhile, I'm playing the song on iTunes):
Lithium, don't want to lock me up inside
Lithium, don't want to forget how it feels without
Lithium, I want to stay in love with my sorrow
Oh, but God, I want to let it go
Come to bed, don't make me sleep alone
Couldn't hide the emptiness, you let it show
Never wanted it to be so cold
Just didn't drink enough to say you love me
I can't hold on to me
Wonder what's wrong with me
Lithium, don't want to lock me up inside
Lithium, don't want to forget how it feels without
Lithium, I want to stay in love with my sorrow
Don't want to let it lay me down this time
Drown my will to fly
Here in the darkness I know myself
Can't break free until I let it go
Let me go.
Darling, I forgive you after all
Anything is better than to be alone
And in the end I guess I had to fall
Always find my place among the ashes
I can't hold on to me
Wonder what's wrong with me
Lithium, don't want to lock me up inside
Lithium, don't want to forget how it feels without
Lithium, ...stay in love with my sorrow
I'm gonna let it go
40. writes:
Okay, I think this can use a vote...Using words from the lyrics, or maybe just making my own title for it...Here's what I got that could've been the title...
'Here in the Darkness'
'Let It Go'
'My Sorrow'
'Can't Hold On'
'Wonder Whats Wrong'
'In Love with [my] Sorrow'
'Pleasure in Pain' (Pretty much describing what most of my old girlfriends are into)
'Hiding the Emptiness' or 'Hidden Emptiness'
'To Be Alone'
'My Place Among the Ashes'
'Empty Happiness'
'Lovely Sorrow' or 'Sweet Sorrow'
I think thats what I've got so far...I almost wanna make this interesting, and have everyone vote on which of the titles above they'd prefer to replace 'Lithium'. Or if you have one of your own, then feel free to add it....How does that sound? Well, vote or add one of your own, I only did this to make it interesting, I honestly don't care that its titled the same as some other song...So for the sake of this debate, I say pick a new one...

43. writes:
it feels good to back. godlike...you hate nirvana?...and mcr...you like evenesence more?...geez. oh well...you still goin out with both old lady and girlfreind...truth be told i didnt think that would last long sorry. i am not saying i hate evenesence but i would not put them on my limewire. that would waste to much space...but amy lee does have a strong voice.

46. writes:
Well then, I must say, thank you sweety..^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
EVANESCENCE....where in the hell are you from anyway..? Not to have heard of Nirvana...
Hey BRAINFREEZE where you been.???? ..yes I do HATE nirvana...with a passion...!!!!!!! I really do like this band quite a bit though...YES they get lots of radio play, but I dont listen to the radio.!!!! I cant get over how powerful Amy Lees voice is...She is really quite amazing....
This thing with the girlfriend and the old lady...has lasted over 4 yrs...!!! But I am getting rid of them both soon I think... The old lady drives me crazy.!!!! And the girlfriend wont leave her husband...So I am getting sick of the waiting.. !!!!!!!! Its time to find one decent woman and give Big Jim and the Twins a rest....!!!!!!!!

52. writes:
Yes, Amy Lee has such a strong amazing voice, she really is a great singer. Although i thought the video wasn't as... interesting as the others? But great song.
Also, kOOpa killer, It doesn't matter if it's metal or not. People love this music.
And Godlike, I listen to Evanescence AND Mcr, so please don't put Mcr down. They all have great personality as well as talent, but i won't try to argue with you, as everyone has an opinoin. I just with more people will accept that.

58. writes:
"high...??? yes..!!!"
godlike, that has to be the best line I've ever heard in response to 'HI' ever!
BLACKDOG, get everything you can get fixed! We gotta talk outside of MU already!
ChemicalDisaster, you mean Mcr as in that sh1tty emo band? Ew man, listen to real music dear child!
BRAINFREEZE, what is ISKETCH? And yeah I have a VF account, but only cuz I had a friend there, other than that I hate it...So I don't go there

60. writes:
This song is freakin' AMAZING, and I absolutely adore Amy - her voice is as beautiful as she is. I was slightly disappointed in the video though. The snow is a cool idea, but the water reminded me of "Going Under", and the part where she was laying down reminded me of "My Immortal". The "Call Me When You're Sober" video was definitely more unique & creative. Still love Evanescence though.

69. writes:
Not trying to rain on anyones parade,
But those lyrics are painfully awkward and trite......
I'll be the first to fess up to Amy Lee having a great voice but I couldn't listen to those lyrics and keep a straight face (I laughed the first time I heard the "call me when you're sober" song and almost drove straight through a red light) whether their from the heart or not....it all comes across like a teenagers diary entry.
Its working for her though, I'm stuck with a sh**ty 9 to 5 and she's got millions, so who am I to judge?...

71. writes:
Hey everyone, one of my friends is more 'kvlt' than anyone on MU has ever been....He just got locked up yesterday for burning a church, and he started the fire by lighting an upside down cross in the church....to zyklon and those wannabe hardcore elitist bastards on MU who actually glorify this, eat my d1ck!
in response to the kid living under a rock....Awwww! he's only 12!!!! LOL

73. writes:
Ive just found out from my sister that Nirvana is "the band they always play at music camp, you know.." for a start i have never been on a camp in which someone has played that song, must have been one of the teenage ones. And i have got cruel parents. They didn't introduce me to metal. I did(with some help from the English version of MTV, the hits)

74. writes:
Hey Evanescence, where are from anyway...??? Maybe your parents need to have better taste in music..!!!
..these are discussions not arguements..At least thats the way I look at it...
And, I now have obtained some Evanescence music and I actually like it...Amy Lee has an amazing voice, and her lyrics, while revolving around alot of heartache, are still ALOT better than this(whatever you call it) metal where you cant understand the lyrics and the singers sound like they are trying to push a bowling ball out or their a$$...

78. writes:
Well, thanks for narrowing that down for me !!!!!!!..At any rate...I am not sure what an "Appleton" is but I can only guess that its not a metalhead... So, sorry to hear it mate.!!! Your getting off on the right track though..!! You can always throw in some Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden or Judas Priest...you cant go wrong with the classics.. !! Good luck

Hey BLACKDOG, my condolences..!!! Death always sucks.!!! And isnt it so true how you can pick your friends but you cant pick your relatives..??
Well, Evanesence didnt know who Nirvana was, so I asked if he had been living under a rock..
And it turns out that he only 12 and lives with his parents in southern England somewhere..
The boy in the bubble comment was for you...I still laugh at that thought...You gave such a heartfelt speach..I almost felt bad about posting as the "boy in a bubble"....Like I said.."almost"!!!
And to Oz...Hey, I was still going on the Amish and you guys got off on the politcal rants..So I just left it alone...No one said anything about the last Amish tale I told...

Somehow I'm strangely comfortable with that concept. It's quite refreshing.(I loved Nirvana but like Elvis,Tupac etc.I think it's long past time we all put it to bed and let Curt die.)Not to keep bringing up death but that's the mood I'm in today unfortunatley.
Dude I totally forgot the Boy in the Bubble thing. You got me that time for sure.lol.

But, I do remember enjoying the show... Hey Oz, have you heard much of the old LA Guns stuff, perhaps their debut or c***ed and Loaded..??? Both of those are quite good if you havent heard them before...
