I'm sure the idea is to tide fans over until the next album....but...uhm...The only people still listening are the sad few that actually bought and enjoyed St. Anger...
I don't know if any band has as huge a fan-base as Metallica that hates MOST (Yes most) of their material.
Think about it: Fans were pretty unwavering up till One had a music video...And Justice For All was still a fantastic record but it signaled the beginning of the end.
The real death knell was the black album which litterally cleaved the existing fan base in half. Even though 100 trillion new fans jumped on they were mostly fly by night people, who couldnt be found by the time Load disappointed everyone.
Reload was an even funnier joke and St Anger was just...disturbing....Most of the same people who wrote St Anger wrote Master of Puppets and that scares me...to this day.

ride the lightening, and justice for all, master of puppets, and kill em all. it is so hard to believe that the same group of musicians made the four aforementioned albums and then went on to make such utter f***ing garbage. it just gets more and more painstakingly dissappointing w/ every release. i cant take much more........

I don't STRONGLY dislike the new stuff. But none of it is up to par with the early stuff.I suppose it kind of had to happen though. Most of the band's that came into existance around the time Mettalica came out are either no longer in existance or just not as popular any more.
It's not unusual for a band to change thing's.But alot of their new stuff was a total departure.Oh well what are ya gonna do?I lost all respect for lars after the whole napster incident.

master of puppets and kill em all are the only metalica albums i picked up. in response to post eleven- thats because ozzy's call to fame was being independent and never fitting in so he decided he could be original and still be metal by staying heavy, just with a lighter tone in reference to his departure from black sabbath and entrance to ozzy osbourne.

Some of the people are so stupid!!! For example post 15. There isn't a clip of creeping death!!!! People are just going along with the trend to bash metallica, but if the new album is good than you will see reactions like: Can't wait to see them live again!!!!:D. And people think that they are still the same as in 1996, they are not!!!! that's f*cking 10 years ago, get over with!!!! They can kicked every band their asses nowadays and if you seen them live in the last 3 years you know that it is so f*cking true. And if you don't like that they bring out a dvd, so be it!! But it seems that some of you still are living underneeth a big rock that has fallen in 1996....

uhm..no they sucked in 96 too....
Metallica haven't impressed me since And Justice For All. I was 6 when they were at their peek (MOP) I don't see anything wrong with fans recognizing quality decay....It signifies that we're not just going to hand Lars another Lexus for bringing us another St Anger...
The only sheep are the ones who worship Metallica blindly....I owe Metallica a great deal for steering me toward music that has made my life more enjoyable but I don't owe them a red cent until they churn out material that I like.

Dutch Metalhead I saw Metallica live in 2003 and they played Creeping Death, and it was cool seeing thousands of people chanting DIE! DIE! DIE!
I am not on the Metallica trashing bandwagon, i just dont like that a good 50% or even 75% of this new dvd is thier 90's music, which in my opinion dose not measure up to the Cliff Burton era.(hell the play only one song from those albums)
and as far as live preformences go, out of all the bands i've seen Slayer, Judas Priest, Mastodon and Trans-Siberian Orchestra were better than Metallica.

YOU KNOW DAMN f***EN WELL THAT YOU MOTHERf***ERS ARE GOING TO BE THE FIRST ONES IN LINE TO BUY TICKETS WHEN THEY ANNOUNCE THEIR TOUR DATES. ILL BE REAL, I DONT LIKE THEIR NEW sh**, BUT THE OLD STUFF STILL KICKS ASS, ITS NOT LIKE THEY ONLY PLAY THEIR NEW SONGS IN CONCERT. IF ANYONE IS A SELL OUT, IT'S YOU FAKE a$$ FANS. f***EN BAND WAGON(SP) MOTHER f***ERS!!!

I've seen Metallica three times....I'm not going to be moved to see them again unless they come within a reasonable distance and charge a tolerable ticket price....
This isn't to say that the shows I have been to weren't great, they were...but by the third time it was obvious what I was in for, same set list give or take 2 songs and a reconfigured order....If the new disk is even decent, as in Black Album quality or better I will catch them somehow, but I'm betting we're in for a letdown on par with the last three studio flops.
The dvd is useless.

If you all didnt care about metallica and there progress you wouldnt bechecking here. Also metallica is by far the best metal band that was ever made. You cant expect people not to change there music. If metallica didnt change there music to apeal to more people the wouldnt become wat they are today. Some one said something about lasr and thenapster thing thats just bull crap. Metallica allowed napster to use their songs but they used i dissapear before the release date and thats y this whole thing happened get your facts right.
Whatever you all say metallica are will and allways will amek amazing music even if its not thrash metal.

I love Metallica, even though that the black album I consider is the their last one, anything after that is not made by "real" metallica, but just a bunch of posers acting like metallica, to me the "real" metallica is no more.Hopefully metallica will stop making sh**ty albums and let the "real" Metallica take over to make great albums again.

referring to post 36, "IF METALLICA DIDN'T CHANGE THIER MUSIC TO APPEAL TO MORE PEOPLE, THEY WOULDNT HAVE BECOME WHAT THEY ARE TODAY".. which is exactly the point most everyone on this thread is making, metallica changed and became something somewhere between totally sucks and what the f*** is this sh**!!!!.. ive seen metallic in the 80's, old school metallica, and they will never again be what they once were. if they would have stayed with the style of the first four, they still would have an incredibile fan base in the millions, and that would be because they lost none of the original fans, which they started losing after black then lost more and more with each sad attempt after that. all thats left now are people who never really experianced metallica of old, and have nothing to compare the new suck a$$ metallica to. and i don't just mean listening to the old stuff. but that does help a little bit. HIMMM!!!!
