Legendary NYC Punk Venue CBGB's Closing After 33 Years
CBGB's is the legendary NYC club that spawned punk rock while launching the careers of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Blondie, the Talking Heads and the Ramones.
This Sunday is the last of the band sticker blanketed, 300 person capacity venue, the last of classic NYC punk heritage; memories will be all that will remain. As stated in the Associate Press: "Although its boom years are long gone, CBGB's remained a Manhattan music scene fixture: part museum, part barroom, home to more than a few rock and roll ghosts."
Last year many bands such as Gorilla Biscuits did benefit shows to keep the venue open, but due to the landlord-tenant dispute, it will be closed by Sunday. "I knew the closing was inevitable, because my lawyers said, `You can't win this case. The law is that your lease is up, and they don't even need a reason to put you out,'" said owner Hilly Kristal. Kristal plans to relocate to Las Vegas, where I'm sure all the memoribilia from the venue will be well received. She also plans to auction pieces of the interior and other such CBGB memoribilia on Ebay.
CBGB has incredible shows lined up this week including the '80s hardcore band Bad Brains and the '70s punks the Dictators. It is rumored that Blondie's Debbie Harry and Chris Stein are also stopping in.
CBGB's last show is October 15th and the club will reopen in the near future. CBGB Fashions: (the CBGB store, wholesale department, and online store) will remain open at our 315 Bowery premises until October 31. On November 1, they will move to and open CBGB Fashions at Broadway and Bond Street. All phone numbers will remain the same.

thats the f***ing dumbest thing ive ever heard, from chaossphere what the f*** are u talking about u dumb sh**. And booking just metal bands would be f***ing stupid as hell, u dumb f***. U pretend as if metal has more credibility then Punk. And why the f*** would some death metal band play the last show at historic punk venue, or some crap like Armon. U guys are f***ing idiots. PERIOD. Maybe listen to some real Hardcore Punk like Black Flag, Gorrila Biscuits, Cro- Mags these bands are ten time better then Cannibal Corpse or Armon.

dude i dont like either of those death metal bands at all in fact i think they kinda suck but dude cmon u can honestly believe ur hardcore has more talent thats just being a dumbass, although i dont have really anything against it ,dude it takes almost no talent to play hardcore music and u know its true. both those metal bands have far more talent than any of those punk bands.

This is very sad. I've never been to this venue but it's very well known across the United States and I'm sure some other countries. Sad day...
And Chaosphere you can't blame the hardcore bands or whatever for a venue closing down. They even said the lease was up. Plain and simple. I don't like emo hardcore but you can't blame those bands for this. You can blame them for scene kid suicides...but not this lol It'd be different if they got closed down for a scene kid killing someone.

Everyone knows that Punk , or Hardcore Punk isnt about who has the most talent thats a f***ing given. My main point was that Cannibal Corpse or Armon havent even made a tenth of an impact on the heavy music scene as the bands i mentioned previously. So i think its great that The Bad Brains and other good Hardcore pUnks bands are playing the final show. That guy was just an ignorent moron and doesnt know what the f*** he's talking about. And Dmasa i said CREDIBILITY not talent. If it wasnt for Cro- Mags and other great crossover bands Cannibal Corpse wouldnt even exist in its present form. Thats how much of an impact Hardcore Punk has made to the heavy music scene.

101proof, thats your opinion. however, the only reason for punk having more influence than metal is because everyone is afraid of metal, so candy a$$ conformists are stuck with punk. dont get me wrong though, i love hardcore punk like the misfits, the sex pistols, etc. but my point is metal scares everyone away so it doesnt get a chance to influence a lot of music and metal is not going to change cuz then it wouldnt be metal.btw dumassa, you might say that amon and cannibal corpse suck, but millions of metal heads would beg to differ, also i wouldnt be f***in with vikings like amon.

back in the day when punk nearly wiped metal out for good, it was considered rebellious and equally anti-mainstream as metal and both were extremely underground. the only difference is that the music of punk is more simplistic (more often than not unoriginal, uninspiring and untalented) and generally more political while metal explored darker and more fantastical storylines. metal has always been much more epic, structured and intense than punk. which could be one reason why punk has crossed over into mainstream acceptance and metal has not. seeing how the mainstream has been trying its hand on "attitude" lately. also, metal has evolved more into a million different sects while punk is basically the same sh**, just different lyrics. imo punk has always been over rated because its audience likes its "catchyness". metal, especially the musicianship and theory behind it, has always from day 1 been extremely underrated. it takes an attention span to listen to megadeth or opeth. no one in the mainstream business has the brains to understand the purpose for more than one riff per song or non-major c scale octave change.
anyway, back to the point. it sucks when local venues shut down or move. hope nyc finds a replacement and i hope vegas enjoys their new joint.

It would be cool to have a chat room in this site...anyone ever inquire? As for CBGB's I, unfortunately never had the opportunity to go. I was very young during the punk scence of legends like Blondie and the sex pistols...but they did their thing, I respect that!

Thor Hath Risen: "dumbassa" cute dude,it must have taken you all night to figure out that cheezy punchline. oh and when you think you made a good point think it over again, because millioins of people bought fall out boys records, does that make them good? nope. and dude amon thinks they are vikings ..........lame a$$ sh**.
