Deftones' "Saturday Night Wrist" Tracklisting Revealed

Billboard.com reports: The Deftones will break a three-year silence on October 31 with fifth studio album, "Saturday Night Wrist." The 12-track set features a guest appearance from System Of A Down vocalist Serj Tankian on "Mein" and Giant Drag frontwoman Annie Hardy on the electronica-tinged "Pink Cellphone."
Deftones drummer Abe Cunningham told Billboard.com in February that the band nearly broke up while soldiering through "Saturday Night Wrist," which he describes as "a very complete record."
"If there was a VH1 'Behind the Music' special on us, it would be the perfect episode with divorces and all kinds of crap," he said. "It was just lack of communication. Thankfully, we've been reattaching our limbs."
The album kicks off with the detuned riff-fest "Hole in the Earth" and is further highlighted by heavy, melodic tracks such as "Cherry Waves," the punishing "Combat" and "Rats," which careens from screamed verses to a less in-your-face chorus. The set also features an instrumental, "Interlude."
The Deftones are in the midst of the Family Values tour with Korn.

For some reason, I could never get into Deftones. Kinda wish I could, they're a lot different to all the other mainstream/semi-mainstream rock out there. But I picked up White Pony and was, basically, disgusted. Terrible album. Though, that WAS a good coupla years ago. Maybe I should give them another try.
Gotta say though, ANYTHING is better than MCR - well, maybe excepting Good Charlotte (blanches)...

Have fun questioning my credibility: I too enjoy the deftones...Metal or not....
Though they've let me down here and there ("Back to School" was silly especially the video, The self title album was hit and miss and the B-side record was absolute sh**).
However, Deftones turned me on my head in '95 (I was 14/15) with Adrenaline....I had just never heard anything like that up to that point...Now that sound is everywhere(!) in one way shape or form....
Around the Fur was their crowning masterwork (most say White Pony, I disagree). White Pony was enjoyable because they experimented so severely at a time when logically, they should have ridden the Nu-metal wave to fame...
I enjoy the deftones less than I did when I was a teenager and still discovering new music at a feverish(read:starving) pace.
I've found my favorite genres(modern prog-(metal), death and black metal, thrash, grindcore...weee!) bands at this point...and while the search continues and is never ending, the Deftones put me in a place where I found diverse vocals, abstract lyrics modest production and the little goosebumps that come with songs that one likes instantly.

See, for me, when I first heard White Pony, I wasn't in the mindset for music that sounded different - I knew what I liked, and wanted everything to sound exactly like that. I'd heard a lot of rave about WP, so I picked it up (hey, it was on special for like, ten bucks, why the hell not?!?) and, because it DID experiment instead of stick with the known, safe stylings, I was disappointed. Thus my continuing contempt for the album. Though, as I said, I should probably give it (and the band in general) another try. My mindset in regards to music has changed a lot since thems days...
I think they put out "Minerva" or something a while ago? From the fans, where would be the best place to start with this band? Reacquaint myself ith White Pony, give newer material a go, or head back to the albums that got them in the scene; Adrenaline/Around The Fur?

Psythe, i would say go back to Adrenaline and Around the fur to really see what they have to offer... it's like starting a book half way through and never reading the first 50 pages...
"Hole in the Earth" is great but how will the other tracks stack up to it ?

Adrenaline and Around the Fur are equal in my eye...Two sides of the same coin.
On a more biased plane, I think Around the Fur edges out Adrenaline. If you didn't like White Pony (I had to spend some time with it) I would definitely stay away from the self title (so-so by my standards and I'm a fan) and the B-side album...That record IS trash.
I would download these highlights if you have iTunes or something.

Strongly suggest getting the albums used if your in doubt.
Deftones aren't for everyone thats for certain, though I've met alot of converts...People who told me that they hated them one day, 3 monthes pass and I see them at a Deftones show and their only response is: I changed my mind.

I respectfully disagree, I have to admit though, deftones lost alot of what drew me into them with time/aging'exposure to other bands...but because of their importance to me when I was a kid, and the fact that they still sound alright (more so than Metallica of late) I will be happy to pick up the new one.

Where else could you find a mature metal band that takes its influences from the almighty depeche mode and The Smiths and turn it into revolutionary metal. and do f***ing cool New Wave covers from those bands. Deftones are probably the most consistantly good band i have ever listened too (unless Metallica would have died on a plain wreck after Black, lol, then it would be them), EVERY studio album is great, even if the B-Sides album is a bit more for the more obsessed fans who just need every cut they ever did. (It wasnt metal, save for a few songs, but it was listenable if you like their mellower side...) Adrenalin is raw aggression, Around the fur is metal sex, White Pony is a great record to bang your head and chick too, and S/T is one of the best "misery" albums i have ever listened too (also why it takes the most to get into, because it is bleak, but brilliant). I don't know what to expect from SNW, but the 4 songs i have heard (FM, Beware, Hole in the Earth, and Interlude) are brilliant (although, save for FM, more experimental and "cure-ish" than straight up metal). They can do their own things, and as long as one song hits as hard as "When Girls Telephone Boys" from S/T on the new one, I will be satisfied from a metal standpoint, even thought i will be more than satisfied from a musical standpoint anyways, i'm sure.

I'm 15 and started listening to deftones a while ago. When I first listened to the Deftones, I didn't actually think it was a good band but then I gave them another shot. Nuff said, I now own all of their records (including Like Linus :D). My favourite album is Around the Fur, altough all of them rule. Even B-Sides and Rarities has a couple of cool songs. I think that they are the greatest nu metal band in the world, and they still aren't getting enough respect for that. I know that this next album's gonna be their best ever, 'cause they just keep evolving but still keep that old school flavor. That's what makes them the greatest band ever.
PS.: By the way, EMO SUCKS B****. All those new bands that don't get haircuts, and make fans go suicidal are really an embarrassment to rock music. Also, My Chemical Romance has got to be like the most gay band in the planet. I mean, what kind of guy wears tight pants and make up? I think we all know the answer to that...

Razorblade, just explain to me why MCR is such an important band to you. If you MUST like emo than why them? The used are the only emo band i dig, and they are so much more intense and emotionally riveting as a band. I mean c mon, Gerard never screams, and Berts (theUsed) voice is mush more emotional. im not a fan of MCR but im a fan of Flyleaf and apparently they have derived from the emo genre but they sound completly different. Any one got any ideas?
Nothing wrong with people having there own opinion on an album but if your a fan of the deftones in this case, why is it that I hear "..... album was sh**". If your a fan listen to it over and over again, research and you enjoy it, it would be a bit boring if a band did the exact same thing over and over again. I listen to Deftones, Korn, Slipknot, Sevendust, and Paradise Lost to name a few and they are all examples of bands that have tryed different styles, but they all still rock!

I think its a true music fans responsibilty to at least become familiar with the work of previous generation artisits (Metallica, Aerosmith...well once upon a time, ACDC, Sabbath, Maiden etc)....
I hate Maiden, but it's not because I didn't give them a shot. They are fantastic at what they do, but I can't get into them because of d***insons voice....As impressive as it may be, it just grates my nerves.
The same could be said for Dream Theater, excellent band, very skilled...but they have a singer whose skill is through the roof and so are the notes he hits, and I cant enjoy it for that reason.
I think the people who only listen to the new stuff, or only stick with the old proven stuff are short changing themselves.

I agree with RememberMetal. Everyone should always give an oportunity to a band (I don't like Iron Maiden either) and even if you don't like it, at least respect their work. Maiden and other old school metal bands don't have the same impact now, but they inspired lots of bands that make good music these days. I can't listen to Depeche Mode or Weezer either (I've tried to, but i just can't), but it's because of them that the Deftones continue to amaze the fans.
Emo however... What's their inspiration anyway? I see loads of guys my age that listen to emo and it makes me sick knowing that teenagers only have 2 options theses days: either they go emo or start listening to hip hop and all that crap.

I guess that this is my first time on this website. It's almost 2:30 in the morning, and I have nothing better to do than to read the entire listing of posts about this.
Regardless, I'd like to say that the new deftones record should be quite good. After hearing a couple of the tracks, I think that they're headed in the right direction. They definately prove themselves worthy of their status in metal over and over again.
Now to the reason that I'm actually bothering to post something...
It seems to me that this 'razor' girl has some serious issues... I'm not exactly sure why somebody would even bother to post that My Chemical Romance is the 'greatest band ever' on an underground metal site, and then say how much deftones suck. Anyone else find this strange in the worst possible way? Granted, yes - I could fathom somebody saying that they didn't care for deftones, but saying that they completely suck is borderline ridiculous. Just about everybody in modern rock/metal (especially mainstream) borrows something from a deftones record. If they suck so much, then how come you can pick out their influence on even some MCR songs?
Continuing on. The fact that you had Poison The Well and the All-American Rejects in the same list of bands you like is rather funny...
Although it might be amusing for a pre-teen pop-rocker to fight with metalheads on a website, it certainly isn't the place to do it. And talking about sucking off members of your favorite band is not exactly the best way to show you like a band. If that was the case, then I'm sure that the entire planet would be a non-stop mass orgy. Besides, from the sound of it, I think you're a little too young to be talking about such naughty things...
Oh and please, please, pay attention in 9th grade english class. You might learn how to express yourself without brutally slaying basic words.
