Korn Part Ways With Touring Guitarist Rob Patterson

KORN have parted ways with touring guitarist Rob Patterson, according to Korn Unleashed. A replacement axeman has already been drafted in and is currently performing with the band on their European tour.
Rob, who was previously the guitarist for OTEP, joined KORN as the backup guitarist in July 2005, filling the slot left vacant by the departure of Brian "Head" Welch, who left the group earlier in the year.
When Rob first joined, the band chose to keep him "hidden" and have him play behind the amplifiers offstage. Since then, Rob has worked his way up in the ranks of the band with him most recently playing onstage in the North American leg of the "See You on the Other Side" world tour earlier this year.
Rob has yet to comment on his depature from KORN, but the header on his MySpace profile currently reads "Farewell, my brothers."
KORN's upcoming DVD, "Live On The Other Side", will receive a big screen premiere on June 19 at more than 100 theatres in 70 markets nationwide. Along with interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and music videos, the disc will feature excerpts from a private show the band played for contest winners and U.S. soldiers on a plane headed to New York from Europe.
The DVD will be in stores on June 20.
KORN will headline the Family Values tour this summer, which begins on July 27 in Virginia Beach. The main stage lineup also features DEFTONES, STONE SOUR, FLYLEAF and DIR EN GREY.

I'm not much of a Korn fan at all, but after reading this I just don't like them in the least. How do you have a guy join the band, and make him play in the back. Who do they think they are? The Rolling Stones might be the biggest band in the world right now, and their new members share the stage as part of the band. Same with Metallica when Trujillo joined. Disturbed did the same sh**. It's not like Korn is a band full of superb musicians. I'm sure Rob can hang w/ korn, they don't exactly have complicated riffs, and virtually no solos.

I wonder if it had to do with the face that Head left, and they didn't want fans to think he was being replaced...?

Well, lorlor, the guy left a band that normally has two guitarists and I agree with BrianSD that they don't have complicated riffs at all. He should be replaced. I mean if any other band were to lose there guitarist, or any band membe for that matter, they would replace him. For example, Mnemic lost there singer and there replacing him, Bloodsimple lost there drummer, Soilwork with there guitarist. This isn't a local band where they could split up because they're loyal to him. They are a multi-platinum artist and should have more respect for people trying to help them out. I just think that's complete sh** of them.

I think for die hard Korn fans, Head leaving was traumatic.. and if they gave the impression of replacing him, that may have been met with some resistance... Hate to tell you this guys, but that's standard fare. Many bands do this because they recognize that the fans pay to see the guys in the band and the performance. Every band has a way they play; the new guy may have been learning the songs, have may had a different way of moving on stage, etc.
In case you didn't know, Kiss, Metallica, (probably Motley Crue being that Nikki Sixx can't really play bass) and many other big bands do this, use prerecorded tracks, etc. Its nothing new...He, apparently is too mad about it, so....

Even then, with their first album, self-titled KoRn, they seemed to have the potential to become one of the bands that can be uncerimoniously strewn into the bottomlesss pit that is the Atrocities of Noise.
During this short period before Life is Peachy, the period in which the only glimpse of mediocrity escaped, (and such a minute glimpse at that!) they seemed to be unaffected by the hip-hop influence that is all too appearant on the next three atrocities.
What's with this rap sh**? Ice Cube? What the hell is this world coming to when pop culture labels KoRn and its sister bands "metal"? It is not metal. KoRn has started an international movement for the weak and stupid to feel like they belong. Never in my life have I seen more white boys with braids, and dear lord is it ugly. At least the way head does it it's ugly. Dexter Hollands braids were cool. But heads? All the mindless children's? No. Ugly sh**. And maybe they think it's cool because they know that it is ugly, and it signifies that they don't care what people think about them, even thought the grim, true reality is that they care so much about what people think that they know it gives them the much needed attention in order to feed their insecurity and their impoverished ego. Ooo. That hurts. This movement that nurtures society's weak and unintelligent is pathetic.
Seven stringed guitars are gravely misused. Origionally, the seven stringed guitar was designed by Steve Vai in order to acheive a greater range of tones. I bet he wishes he never did it.
KoRn uses them to get a lower tone, a tone with heavy distortion, no bite, no edge, just a flat, low, sh**ty, disgusting tone. Riffs by these 2 stooges can be made by dropping that big bad Ibanez on the floor. "Ok, now for this riff, what you gotta do is, pull the strap off the strap button, and very precisely with your right hand, grab the neck about where it meets the body, and fling the guitar across the room. For a better tone, if you're lucky and on tour with Slipknot, you can fling it at number 8." Their noise is horribly unintelligent simple sh** that is good for just about one thing: making money off the mindless. And it works great. No talent guitar bullsh**.
The drums are tuned with the slack of your average, everyday lawnchair. But eh, they're low! Cool right?! Right guys?! Huh guys?! Yeah...it has no strength, no balls whatsoever. Real drums can be heard in songs with Dave Lombardo, Vinnie Paul, and Lars Ulrich. They have more balls that KoRn's drums ever will, Lombardo especially.
KoRn is sh**, there's no two ways about it. With their sh** came more bands, helping to carry on the sh** tradition, and the universal movement for the f***ing stupid of the world.

LA-You can like anything you like of course, but you would do well to remember when you make this kind of argument that Rock music is just a bastardized version of Blues and Black music in general. Remember that Elvis and Pat Boon are famous for their COVERS of Black music (Hound Dog by Big Mamma Thorton and Tutti Frutti by Little Richard). You don't have to like Hip Hop or Korn's direction, but if you think White artist emulating Black artist is something new, or the world is coming to something different, then you need to pay more attention.

1.) I am not a pre-teen, unlike yourself.
2.) Pink hair is actually pretty cool, on the right person. I, myself do not have pink hair, but I do have some funk goin on up-top. But, it looks good....

and yet call me outdated. because I happen to Love 80s metal - all those "long whaling guitar solos" are an integral part of proper metal for me.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but: you state that you "don't really hear any "metal" in" your music. You also accept that you are a nu-metal fan. This in itself seems a little contradictory, but I'm willing to look past that seeing as I don't really consider nu-metal to be metal either. However, my real question follows; why, if you dislike "metal" music, preferring instead "100% rock", would you bother to visit this site, being as it is a site for "metal" music news. sure, there is the occasional headline about korn, or maybe if david draiman admits to something ELSE stupid, but essentially what you'll find here is news on bands such as slayer, mastodon, emperor, amon amarth, behemoth, etc etc etc etc and all those wonderfully metal bands. So why not simply visit a forum site dedicated entirely to nu-metal and rock?

if i understand your viewpoint correctly, what you're saying is that you buy your designer clothing and your nice car in order to prove to yourself and others that you are a mature, actively beneficial member of society? and yet, where my roots lie, people will prove this to themselves and to others merely by their outlook on life, their openness to possibilities, and their non-judgemental behaviourisms. it's a blessed community.
oh, and as another sidenote, I am actually a partial fan of numetal too; for example, I enjoy korn's debut album and Life Is Peachy. not big on the rest of their stuff. cant stand disturbed. love static-x's first two albums, dont mind a couple of ill nino's songs, enjoy cold and spineshank, and think mushroomhead and sevendust are grand.

I come to this site because it is interesting, and they do have alot of articles about bands I like. Like you, I also like other music besides what is talked about here.... But, I have never liked 80's metal..... And probably never will. Alot of my friends, inclusing Vicster like some of that type music, but not me.... I hate it. Oh, and guess what else? I was a full blown Goth in high school. haha! Thank god I have evolved and matured unlike some other 30-something people I see who cannot get out of the black lace dresses with combat boots, white faces and black lipstick who dwell on the Cure and other such bands that left the scene a decade ago...

Thanks for your input, but I will pass on that. I am a pretty open minded person as it is., LORLOR can voutch for that. I can not tollerate drugs of any kind. LORLOR and myself are very close, however we are also very different. I would also consider myself to be non-judgemental, everything that I have said here is purely for entertainment purposes.

I could say that I actually grew up behind the iron curtain with the iron fist (iron fist is a reference to my father). I was not the rebelious type when I was a teen, I was never in to goth nor is that something that appeals to me. This is the 3rd coutry that i've lived in so I have seen a lot and experienced a lot in my short life. I have enough maturity to appreciate all kinds of music. I don't limit myself to just "nu-metal" as u call it. I must admit that posting on this site is always a ton of laughs, that is why I post here.

korndogg - cold are one of the best nu-metal outfits. I enjoy their music, but I don't find it to be particularly outstanding. as I'v said, I don't mind some nu-metal, but I don't think it's good music, in terms of skill/talent/complexity etc.
and I dislike FTL onwards because of the rap/hip-hop influences and collaberations. when a metal band starts doing songs with Fred Durst and Ice Cube etc etc, that's when I back away - rapidly.

and I dont really think of blending nu-metal with hiphop as pushing "the limits of rock", more just integrating and intertwining two pre-existing, simple, over-rated genres of music. that said, korn do still produce a song that I will enjoy, every now and then.
