Stone Sour Part Ways With Drummer Joel Ekman

STONE SOUR, featuring SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor, have posted the following announcement at their MySpace page:
"Things are going really well in the studio and we'll have a more in-depth update next week, but for now, we wanted to let you know about a change in the band. Sadly Joel Ekman, Stone Sour’s original drummer, is no longer going to be part of the band. This is something that we all discussed and feel is best for the five of us and for the future of Stone Sour. This has been the most intense recording process of our career and the next year of touring will be equally, if not more, intense. Our world tour kicks off June 2 in Germany and our goal is to play as many cities and countries as possible. We're in discussions with a few drummers now and will let you know who that person will be as soon as we come to a decision.
We wish the best to Joel and to his family."

The guy should be with his son. I agree with that. But it's not like he was the best drummer. Now if Slipknot were to lose Joey then they would be screwed because he's probably the most talented one in the band. I'm not being negative towards Slipknot, I'm just saying he's a kick a$$ drummer. this guy is just very replacable. should just take Joey away from Murderdolls and have another version of Slipknot with less members.

havnt yet, but it would surprise me not in the least. after three albums going progressively from strength to weakness, and all these side-projects taking up time and effort, i think the rumour is fairly plausable. besides, when a band is getting as much bad rep as slipknot, sometimes it's better to just let it go. it's harder to turn haters of an existing band into fans than to turn haters of people (ie Corey Taylor) into fans of a new band - probly coz a new band has the possibility of having some amazing new talent, whereas a new album by an old band is going to be the same musicians and thus the same talent (or lack thereof)...i think that made sense?

Slipknot have another record in them...The last one did entirely too well commercially and critically for the band to turn their backs on it. Even if it was kind of lacking in some aspects IMHO....It'll be at least 2 years before they come out with another one though.
As for Stonesour losing their drummer, it happens. I find it odd that it would happen right when recording is underway but thats just me.....
I never could get into Stonesour...That band sounds a bit generic...Very ho-hum melodies and riffs....Now that I'm thinking about it, that drummer that they're cutting loose may well be the bands best member...I dunno...and really don't care either.
