Judas Priest Starting Work On New Studio Album

Band Photo: Judas Priest (?)
JUDAS PRIEST management co-ordinator Jayne Andrews has posted the following message on the group's official web site:
"All of the band took a well deserved break over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Having been touring for nearly two years, they were badly in need of recharging their batteries! Now they are raring to go and are starting work on their new studio album. For this reason, they have decided not to do any touring this year but to work straight through on the new album! Once we are further down the line with it I'll give you some updates!
"We have just heard from Burrn! magazine in Japan that JUDAS PRIEST have swept the polls!
The Best Group of the year: JUDAS PRIEST
The Best Album of the year: JUDAS PRIEST 'Angel Of Retribution'
The Best Live Performance in Japan: JUDAS PRIEST
The Best Album Cover: JUDAS PRIEST 'Angel Of Retribution'
The Best Vocalist of the year: Rob Halford/JUDAS PRIEST
"Needless to say we are all very happy about these results — they are fantastic! So a big thank you to JUDAS PRIEST's Japanese fans!!"

Really??? What is your measure of success? They were the reason that Ozzfest 2004 was so heavily attended...and they converted a whole new group of metal kids at the same time. Angel of Retribution was a great record from start to finish...if you were a Priest fan to begin with, you had to be happy with it. I look forward to more Priest. I saw them the first time with Ripper and it was fun...but with Rob...it was amazing.

Geez! I post an observation/opinion and the name calling ensues. What do some of you base your level of criticism and loyalty on that constitutes to calling me out (Post 4)?
Can we not post here and refrain from the biased negativity? I wasn't being negative; I was basing my opinion on friends (some who are much older than I) that purchased the album, talking to people at shows, album reviews, record sales, etc.
Post 2, how would you know if I were a Priest fan or not? Last time I checked, I had all of Priest's albums...with the exception of maybe 2? Trust me; it’s ok to not like an album by one of your favorite bands. I guess Angel is just one of those albums that some like and some don't...so in my opinion...I didn't care for it.
Just because I didn't like the album doesn't mean I'm a stupid prick or that I'm not a Priest fan. Did I call anyone names in this post? Did I assume that anyone who has made a comment here was anything less than a Priest fan? The only thing that I can say for sure is there is a lack of structural criticism toward others and their opinions.

I think you misinterpreted my statement...when I said "if you were a Priest fan" I wasn't challenging the fact of whether or not you were. It was an observation on my part about that the album was very traditional Priest sounding...and more than likely people who liked Priest would probably like it. My use of the word "you" was a generalization of the listening public...not a direct comment about you specifically. Sorry for the confusion. I don't post on here to insult people...just to discuss. My initial question still stands...why do you think they didn't go over here as well? Just a discussion point...not an attack. I look forward to more discussions. I agree that the personal attacks are highly unnecessary, but I have come to accept them as part of posting here.

Thanks JT (posts 2 & 11) for clearing that up. I've mentioned to others on this site that it's hard to interpret a poster's tone of voice, attitude, and context of which we try to write our comments and opinions...so misinterpretations do occur often...my apologies.
Actually, it was post 4 who was really making the personal attack. I just don't understand this whole elitism complex so many people have about centain bands.
Now, to answer your question "Why do you think they didn't go over here as well?" Well, judging from friends (some who are much older than I) that purchased the album, talking to people at shows, album reviews, record sales, and my own opinion about the music itself, it just didn't click with me for some reason. I don't know...maybe a few years down the road it will catch up with me.
Thanx again JT for being understanding. I appriecate your your questions and opinions. I'm always up for more discussion.

I loved Angel of Retribution, great album in my opinion. I loved the show. I saw them in Atlanta and they didn't miss a beat, pure perfection. I even had the priveledge of getting backstage to meet everyone but Rob and they are a great bunch of guys.
I think the reasons why the success of the tour wasn't broader in the U.S. compared to say Motley Crue's tour is due to the following:
1. Management did not book them to do the talk show circuit like Letterman, Leno, and Kimmel were they could be interviewed and play some songs.
2. Lack of promotion from Sony records. It is now common knowledge that record companies have to pay to get play, well they didn't with Judas Priest.
3. They should have had Anthrax or some other band with a broader fan base than Queensryche open. While I like Queensryche, they appeal to most core Priest fans but a different band with a broader appeal would help attract new fans to exposed to their greatness. Kind of like Ozzfest did.
4. The mainstream music listeners taste in music sucks. Why is Priest so big in Europe and Japan while crap like Fifty Cent, Gwen Stephani, Justin Timberlake, Britney Speares, ect get all the attention over here in the US. Not to mention MTV totally abandoned metal, the music that made the network.
Just my opinion,
Peace out, Rock on, and keep defending the faith!

J.T. Hit the nail on the head.MTV ruined music so instead of people haveing a choice of who they listen to and the really talented musician's getting at the very least an oportunity to be heard. We get mediocrity.I don't dislike Justin Timberlake or 50 cent for that matter but that does not change the fact that they are over rated.Hell MF DOOM is atleast 3 times the MC as 50 and most people have no idea who he is.The critic's love him but the record companies would rather give the money and effort to less talented individuals. It makes no sence nowaday's if you want to hear something good you gotta have the ball's to go out & find it.And because the typical MTV watcher is a little too spoiled & or lazy to do the leg work. They are gonna miss out on alot of thing's includeing legend's like JUDAS PRIEST.It's a shame really.
