New Mushroomhead Album Video Preview Available
Cleveland, Ohio's MUSHROOMHEAD are scheduled to release their sixth studio album on June 6 via Filthy Hands/Megaforce. The album's projected first single, "Watch Me Go", is expected in May. A video preview for the new CD can be seen here.
MUSHROOMHEAD's follow-up to 2003's "XIII" (Republic/Universal) will mark the group's recording debut with singer Waylon, who replaced frontman J. Mann in 2004.
With regards to the upcoming CD, MUSHROOMHEAD drummer-producer Steve "Skinny" Felton told the Cleveland Scene in December, "It's all over the map. A lot of people who've heard it think of the first album, mixed with a little bit of 'XIII'. It's a harsh contrast between songs. There's some brutal, brutal, sick stuff, like old-school HATRIX or LAMB OF GOD. And with Waylon able to sing so well, there's some more melodic stuff going on. The one thing Waylon doesn't do that J. did is rap."
The disc will be mastered by Bill Korecky (INTEGRITY) at Mars Studios. Felton said the band plans to release versions of the disc with eight different covers, one designed by each member.

Just for the record, Mushroomhead did do the mask thing first...it has been well-documented and Joey even admitted to the fact that they knew of Mushroomhead's act when coming up with their concepts. I am not trying to start a Mushroomhead/Slipknot debate...but that issue has been contentious over the past several years and I just wanted to set that straight.
As far as the new record goes...I think it is a very exciting step for the band. I agree with RM? (as usual) that JMann was a weak link. While the hip-hop element of the Mushroomhead product is important...Jeffery Nothing's vocals are the ones which were indispensable. Now with Waylon coming on board, I think the band is going to go in a new direction and continue their evolution. Waylon does not rap, but he has amazing clean and hard vocals...as he proved with his last band 3 Quarters Dead (if you are interested there is a MySpace for that band with a few tracks available to listen to). I also had the opportunity to see him perform with Mushroomhead back in August...and he was right on with every song. He can do the old stuff just fine...it will be very interesting to hear what kind of voice he brings to the album itself. I think that this album could re-introduce the band to the world...and leave them more popular than they have ever been. There has been lots of good buzz about the record...and there is no doubt that the Thirteam folks will be out in force to help get the band exposure. The incredibly devoted fan base that Mushroomhead has had for years will allow them to shift and change while continuing to bring along those loyal to them. Their fans are unique in that a change in the band does not phase them...the music and message is always powerful...and they never abandon the band. I will be out on 6/6/06 to get this record...and I hope a lot of other people are too.

I'm no raging fan boy, and I know there are many...But I'll keep an open mind when the new album drops.
Odds are I won't rush to get it but I won't rule it out either....I would like to think that this could be on of the more the more straightforward sounding bands I could get to like but again this comes form someone who only has about 5 of their songs on my computer having heard the last two albums...
*shrugs*

"Born of Desire" Nothing I havent heard before but memorable....The synth maintains kind of an errie vibe while the drums build a good tension through out.
"Mother Machinegun" Fantastic keyboard, bass and drum intro...They should be that adventurous more often.
"Solitaire/Unraveling" Lots of stuff going on, I like the vocals that overlap eachother...cool stuff.
"Xeroxed" Simple heavy fun stuff
"Sun Doesn't Rise" typical nu-metal lyrics but the vocals have a lot of conviction...song made me giddy first time I heard it.
"Bwomp" a little too rappy but lots of energy.
As I've stated I'm not too crazy about J Mann rappy parts but his screams/roars were pretty decent.....His lyrics about "keeping it real" kinda left me feeling silly but Jeffery Nothing is commendable....I like the drummer too....I end up hearing a little bit of Mushroomhead between my two friends who own their cds so they've grown on me since I first heard them on some indie cd in 2001 if memory serves.

I like there new masks! And I hate when people don't know that they had masks well before Slipknot and call them Slipknot-wannabes! Get your facts straight b4 you make fun of some you dumb ass! Good job JT. I like the masks they always come up with, I want one of them! This band is a decent band, they're not my favorite but they're not bad.

Mushroomhead may have done the mask thing First but Slipknot Has better masks and they are much better musicians. Not to say that Mushroomhead Is not Worthy of respect because they are better than alot of this crap I've been hearing lately. And I Have to agree that Jmann was a definite weak link. actually he is why i'm not a huge fan of theirs.

I saw them live pretty much right after J Mann split. Waylon did a pretty good job covering the previous 'Shroomhead stuff, but I guess it remains to be seen how he fares on his own material. We shall see.
And 'Shroomhead did do the mask thing first. They've been around for ages, over a decade... they have 5 records, and one in the works, plus 2 remix albums (Mushroomhead, Superbuick, M3, XX, XIII).

18. writes:
That's a pretty good sampling RM? If your friends have some of their records...also check out the Superbuick version of "Never Let It Go." The Universal f***s did a terrible job with the mixing of XX. "Flattened" off of Superbuick is also an amazing song. Lyrically it leaves something to be desired...but Nothing's vocal talents really come through on that one. Two more that would be good to check out would be "Destroy the World Around Me" and "Nowhere To Go" from XIII. I am a pretty big MRH fan...and the suggestion that my fan-self would give you is to listen to it all. But I know that you have fairly discerning taste...so the music fan in me will leave it at those suggestions. Happy listening. Also, check out that 3 Quarters Dead page on MySpace...it'll give you some idea of what Waylon can do. He has a Maynard-ish quality to his clean vocals...and his harder vocals are quite good too. Tell me what you think if you get the chance to check it out.

Will do!...I'm curious about the new singers sound.
I know one of my buddies has a bunch of their sh**, the other caught on later and only has the two major label records. I'm pretty proud of my sampling of their music...It represents them well I think.
I'm fairly sure I can bank on hearing at least a little MH on the Feb 20th Opeth, Devin Townsend Band and Dark Tranq are playing near home.
We're all piling into one car and the cd's played on the drive rotate by "Rock Paper Scissors" at stop lights....Mushroomhead will find its way in the cd changer, the odds are just in their favor.
20. writes:
I guess the rock paper scissors game is a good idea...but depending on who you choose to ride along with it may turn into a dangerous game of musical Russian Roulette...haha. Although, I think that anyone riding along to such a good show probably has okay taste.

I agree...just listen to Waylon...this is going to be a very interesting record. I think if you were a fan of this band at any time in its history you understand that change is a constant thing. This is just yet another step in the evolution of the band. I think he'll make their sound even sharper than ever...and if you read the interview with him...he seemingly wants this to be a fairly dark record...I will be waiting anxiously.

I just listen The aLTER bOYS (JMANN'S NEW BAND) AND WITH ALL THE RESPECT for Jmann I can tel u that this band suck....big time. it's kind of mike patton's drunking period.
the melodic line is for kindergarden. sad but true Jmann is nothing without mushroomhead , a good vocal but not the only. good luck Waylon GOOD BYE JMANN

32. writes:
JM's vocals may have been a little weak...but you do have to give him credit for is song writing ablilites....he wrote Xeroxed and Never let it go...and also worte parts of all of their best songsBefore I die, Bwomp, Solitare unraveling,
These filthy hands, Chancre sore,
The new cult king, Born of Desire, Fear held dear, too much nothing....ect ect. He will be missed, and I wish him the best of luck in his new ventures. As for Waylon...he has some big shoes to fill, but who knows he might just outgrow JM's...just have to wait and see.

LOL
J-Man's "keeping it real" rapping sh** is more funny than "greatest of all time"...
Evilsonic you need to get out more. This guy could have led The Insane Clown Posse. He was the weakest link in a nu-metal band that actually has some real promise....I think the new vocalist is this bands shot at a legitimate rebirth.

OK...let me get this one straight...if a band can't hold onto their original singer then that means they suck ass? I am going to have to say that musical ability comes into play when I decide which bands "sucks ass" and which do not...but I am sure plenty of people don't see it my way. By your standard...let's see who sucks ass...Pantera...we all know they didn't hold onto their original singer...I thought that they were a favorite of yours...are you sure that they suck ass? How about AC/DC...now sure...their singer died...but damn it...they should have done more to hold onto him...so they suck ass. Iron Maiden...they're out...Anthrax too...wow it seems like a lot of bands that are pretty damn good suck a$$ according to your criteria. I will have to re-evaluate my whole musical selection now.
I am obviously being sarcastic here. Look, I don't want to run from story to story fighting with you about all sorts of sh** just because you think I insulted you at some point. So can we just stop this ridiculousness? We clearly don't agree on a lot of things...that's fine...but now you are just making it a point to challenge everything that I post. If you want to waste your time checking up on everything I post...go for it...but this is the last time I respond to you.

I'm a pretty big fan of Mushroomhead, and I'm really looking forward to the new album.
From what I can remember, which might have even been posted on this website, JMann left of his own accord to head up some record label. From what I recall he wasn't really doing anything musical. the posing about his new band is completely new info for me.
other than that, I think its best to wait till the new material drops to start ranting like some ticked off little 12 year old punk

look, i dont want to say that jmann is noob but if he didnt make a bit of rap, we never heard waylon sing.

RM?
How was the concert on the 20th? DId the rock/paper/scissors game go as you expected? Just wondering if you got a chance to check out those tracks.
By the way, I've been working on the bass...took your advice on starting with some simple and familiar stuff (which will remain unnamed on this site) and I agree that it's a great way to go. It keeps you positive...because you actually get a song out there that you can recognize...it's been fun so far...I'll try and keep it up...although this summer will be tough because I'm finishing up law school and have to study for and then take the bar exam. Maybe I can use it as my escape. Talk to you soon.

MUSHROOMHEAD did it first. But anyway, did anyone of you haters ever seen a MUSHROOMHEAD show.. our are you just them kinda dudes who will only go and see whats popular and its so safe to say that SLIPKNOT rules. Can't call myself a big fan but they've done a few songs that have turned my head....A little bit FNM a little bit nu-metaly but theres definitely some things going on that are outside the box as well......I can't help but wonder how effective the new singer is vs the J-man guy....he was the bands weakest link imho.
