Sick Of It All Vocalist Lou Koller Has Passed Away Aged 59 After Battle With Cancer

Lou Koller, the frontman of one of hardcore's most respected bands, Sick Of It All, has tragically died. He was fifty nine years old. A statement from his bandmates reads as follows:

"It’s with unbelievable sadness that we announce to our worldwide hardcore family the passing of our brother Lou Koller.

"The level of loss that we feel at this time is overwhelming. This year would have marked Sick of it All’s 40th anniversary as a band, and Lou’s camaraderie, commitment and enthusiasm were always steadfast throughout the years. We have lost a beloved friend and an iconic frontman. Lou had the power to raise everyone’s spirits at our shows with a smile and a sarcastic comment, and he won people over wherever we played, from every culture and every corner of the world.

"At this time of intense grief, we must again acknowledge the great help and support offered by everyone who donated to Lou’s medical fund. You all helped Lou feel very special and very loved as he battled away these last two years. His battle is over now and he can finally rest. Hopefully he can somehow still see and feel the beautiful, positive mark he left on the world."

Lou Koller was one of the founding members of Sick Of It All, alongside his brother Pete and drummer David Lamb. The Koller brothers remained the only constant members, though the lineup had been steady since 1994's seminal album, "Scratch The Surface," and would ultimately release twelve studio albums, with the last being "Wake The Sleeping Dragon!" in 2018. In 2024, the band announced that Lou had been diagnosed with an esophageal tumor and cancelled their scheduled performances. The next May, Lou posted a video to announce that he was now free of cancer, but only four months later, he confirmed that it had returned.

Outside of Sick Of It All, Koller made several guest appearances with other bands and notably collaborated with Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury as Blood From The Soul, who released their debut album, "To Spite The Gland That Breeds" in 1993.
