Self-proclaimed ‘bimboviolence’ outfit BRAT have announced their new album, “Manslayer”, due out September 25th through Prosthetic Records. The album was recorded at Bricktop Recording in Chicago, IL, with Weekend Nachos’ Andy Nelson handling production, engineering and mastering.

Coinciding with the announcement, the band have premiered a John Colgan-directed music video for the first single, “Manslayer (Hell Hath No Fury)”, available below.

According to a press release, vocalist Liz Selfish drew lyrical inspiration from revenge-themed country songs such as “Goodbye Earl” by The Chicks, “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood and “Gunpowder & Lead” by Miranda Lambert while crafting the album.

Selfish elaborated:

“There’s not a lot of those tropes in death metal, which I think primarily is because there’s not a lot of women in that space. I thought that was a really cool perspective and I really liked the storytelling aspect of it.”

For the first time, Selfish also took over the band’s lyric-writing duties from her husband and bandmate, guitarist Brenner Moate. She explained:

“It’s quite new territory for me, and it wasn’t necessarily an intentional thing initially. I wrote the first song for the album, and I just loved writing, and I was like, ‘I really love doing this, and I want to do more’, so I ended up writing the whole album. Brenner’s main focus is writing music – he wants to write riffs – so he wasn’t too torn up about not writing the lyrics. It was a nice passing of the torch.”

She also commented on the darker direction of the new record:

“We’re evolving the bimboviolence and the campiness by making it all a little bit darker with this album, and a bit more overtly violent. I think that will probably reflect in our stage show and our imagery as well, keeping it fun, not a total 180, but definitely progressing into something darker with it.”

“Manslayer” features guest appearances from Revocation frontman/guitarist David Davidson on “Femicidal Vengeance” and Walls Of Jericho vocalist Candace Buckingham on “Blistered Tongues.”
