Unearthing The Metal Underground: Ruyned

Romania’s speed metal anomaly Ruyned has only been around since 2023, but in that short time they’ve put out a couple of demos and an album. They appear to be relatively young gentlemen, and sure, while classic strands of metal have been and continue to be rehashed throughout the years, it’s exactly that: rehashed. Ruyned doesn’t seem to be reinventing the wheel, but their take on black and thrash informed speed metal is undeniably captivating. Now, the unit is poised to unleash its sophomore effort, “Profanum Sacrificium.”

While Ruyned’s previous material was released independently, the Romanians have now linked up with the legendary French label Osmose Productions. The greater opportunity and exposure will hopefully and rightfully lead toward the band’s profile rising, and significantly so. Again, there’s nothing new per se; however Ruyned forwards a violent display of expansive speed metal that sounds timeless and true to the old ways while captured in a way that seems relatable to younger metalheads.

Thematically, songs like “Sex ’N Speed” and “Sex Commander 666” are suggestive enough of their propensity for debauchery and hedonism. What’s impressive is the intricacy and musical depth that the band boasts throughout “Profanum Sacrificium.” In a perfect world, Ruyned’s name should reach the heights of a band like Midnight.
