Shaun Glass, who initially found fame as the bassist of death metal band Broken Hope, before achieving further success with Soil, has passed away following a stroke. His former Soil bandmates posted the following message regarding his death:
"We’d like to take a moment to say goodbye to our former guitarist Shaun Glass who passed away earlier today. Although we have been estranged and not on good terms since his departure in 2007, he was still an integral part of SOiL in the early years. And for a long time he was a good friend and comrade. We had many laughs and many good times back in the day. We will look back at those times with fond memories and smiles. It’s sad to hear of his passing and we would like to send his family our condolences during this time of grief."
Other tributes have been posted from various other metal musicians, including Malevolent Creation guitarist Philip Fasciana who said:
"Rest easy old friend! It seems like yesterday we were tape trading in 1989 and have always stayed in touch. I'm gonna miss your hilarious text messages. Metal has lost another brother. R.I.P. Shaun Glass ! Until we meet again!"
Kelly Shaefer of Atheist, Till The Dirt and Neurotica also paid tribute:
"Man.... this is horrible. We toured together on Ozzfest back in 2002, and had remained friends since. We just spoke a few weeks ago and you sounded so full of life. It's a scary reminder to treat everyday as your possible last. You were a real one for sure, and I will miss you brother. RIP."
Shaun Glass began his career with Chicago death metal band, Terminal Death, recording two demos, before joining Sindrome in 1986. He would achieve more recognition when he replaced Ed Hughes as the bass player of Broken Hope, with whom he recorded the albums "Repulsive Conception" and "Loathing," before leaving in 1998 to focus on his hard rock/nu metal band Soil. It was with Soil that he gained the most commercial success, thanks largely to their second album, "Scars," and its lead single, "Halo." He would go on to release two more albums with the band, "Redefine" (2004) and "True Self" (2007) before parting ways and forming a new death metal band, Dirge Within, who recorded two albums themselves, "Force Fed Lies" and "There Will Be Blood." It was around this time that he rejoined Broken Hope and appeared on the album, "Omen Of Disease," before eventually forming his latest band Repentance, who released two full length albums before Glass's death, with a third, "Retaliate," due out on July 27th.
