“ADJOURN IT,” a new collaborative track from Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, System Of A Down vocalist Serj Tankian, and Tom’s teenage son Roman Morello, has premiered online. Morello and Tankian have long shared activist ties, having co-founded the Axis Of Justice nonprofit in 2002 to promote social justice causes and combat racism within the rock and metal communities.

Morello previously described the song as being inspired by:

“The persecution of immigrants across the land and the counterforce of a heroic resistance to the rising tide of fascism. ADJOURN IT is a ‘Freedom Song’ of crushing riffs for justice and equality.”

The newly released music video for the track also arrived with additional context surrounding its visual themes:

‘Clips from the film SALT OF THE EARTH (1954) are woven throughout the “ADJOURN IT” video to reflect the song’s theme of resistance in the face of prejudice and injustice. The film is based on a true story of Mexican-American miners fighting against labor exploitation, racism, and institutional oppression, and was made by three Hollywood executives blacklisted for their political beliefs.

It stars real zinc miners and was one of the first ever truly independent films. SALT OF THE EARTH was a powerful act of defiance in its time and more than half a century later, its themes continue to echo through today’s political climate. “ADJOURN IT” channels the defiant legacy of the film reinforcing the importance of solidarity in bringing people together against fear and division.’

All three musicians are also scheduled to appear at Tom Morello’s newly announced “Power To The People” festival, set for October 3rd at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. The event will additionally feature performances from Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, and more.

Although being promoted as a non-partisan event, the festival appears positioned as a form of counterprogramming to MAGA-aligned live events tied to the current U.S. administration, with much of the lineup consisting of outspoken critics of the Trump administration.
