Slipknots Clown Talks About Making of Live CD

SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan recently spoke to MTV.com about the group's upcoming double live album, "9.0: Live", which comes out November 1 via Roadrunner Records.
"Studio albums are cool because they span the tables of time and you can work on the music until you're ready to put it out — but when you play those songs live, they take on a whole different life," Crahan said. "Suddenly, it's of the moment and there's this raging human pulse that's full of anger, love, hate and pain, and you spit that out to people and they taste that album differently.
"While we're playing, we're dying under our masks and exploding with the adrenaline of achieving our goal, which is to be as completely uncomfortable as humanly possible for our art," Crahan added. "We're slamming our heads and screaming at each other. There's real pain there. For me, it's the pain of mortality and the pain of being away from my wife and her being ill [Crahan's wife suffers from Crohn's Disease, an intestinal ailment]. And when the show ends, we look at each other's eyes, and we know we've pushed ourselves as far as we can at that point on that day in this life of ours.
"When we got the audio back from [the 2002 DVD] 'Disasterpieces', we realized we all gave a really, really good performance in part because we knew we were being taped. And we knew then that there was a lot of potential for a live album, so we decided to tape lots of shows and make sure we were on point the whole time. We are very anal-retentive when it comes to playing anyways, so we are very hard on ourselves and no one comes up half-assed or they get beaten down. But when you've got a microphone hanging onto your every note, you tend to give maybe 115 percent instead of 110 percent."

Slipknot is great. Their 3rd album really pushed the diversity of their music and what they are striving to accomplish. If you people can't see that and just think that first of all nu-metal sucks and they do too well thats your opinion. I personally think they're amazing and think they keep getting better and better.

why are you gatting on at korn when this is about slipknot. All you slipknot haters just GTFO anyway. Why are you posting a comment just to say you don't like a band. And do you think anybody cares that they are not black metal? where have they said they are? They are, in my opinion a very good band. But I also listen to stuff like strapping young lad, so I listen to lots of stuff.
so everyone posting here with negative comments, f*** OFF!!

To Slipknot haters and TRUE "SIC" Slipknot fans. If you think they suck or sold-out you are in all actuality a dumb f*ck. Your opinion is yours, if you don't like someone elses then remember, someone won't like yours. stop being a B*tch and thinkin of yourself as something better then us. You are stupid in the first place for being around something you clearly do not like. Slipknot rule and always will.

Slipknot is a good band, at least they write their own music, unlike Korn... lol Korn makes a few songs, then copies someones song, makes a few songs that copies someones song. Slipknot, is pure metal, and korn is just a bunch of white guys. One day Their goth, the next they dress like their rappers, its like they don't know what type of genre they are.

slipknot is alright, sh** they are one of my favorites but, not the best, hell i like Mushroomhead or Hatebreed better than them, but hell I'll listen to Slipknot 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times before I listen to MCR or Good Charlotte, so if you want to complain or make fun of any band,it should be My chemical Romance (THEY ARE GAY HA HA HA HA HA !!!!!!!!!)

sure their third album wasnt REALLY up to scratch, but you can just not listen to it. i personally think that the acoustics on volume 3 are pretty crappy (not cos its not heavy, its just that i dont really like the dramatic change of pace in the album). blister exists, before i forget, three nil etc etc are great tracks, but vermilion pt.2 and circle arent my cuppa tea.
