Iron Maiden: 'Series Of Unfortunate Events' Made San Bernardino Show 'Difficult'

IRON MAIDEN have posted the following message on their official web site:
"IRON MAIDEN wish to thank all the 45,000 metal fans at Ozzfest in San Bernardino on Saturday night for sticking with us and giving us such a great response at the end of a difficult set. It was obvious to all there that we had a 'series of unfortunate events' throughout! These made it difficult for us to keep our momentum but your incredible support certainly helped us get through it. We guess it all adds up to a pretty memorable gig though!!!
"This is, however, a metal festival. It is supposed to be fun for all. You fans pay very good money to be there and deserve to get a full and unhindered performance from all the bands. This was not the case last night.
"So with this rather bizarre end to a good tour we are returning to the U.K. today for the Leeds and Reading festivals and once again thanks to all of you who came out to see us these last few weeks."

Sorry to all you old school rockers but iron maiden looked and sounded gay when I saw them in Marysville. They got like 10 guitarists dancing around on stage, fighting some stupid zombie thing....it was like the worst of the '80s nightmare. And Bruce was trying his hardest to sound cool saying the same ol' "we don't sell out to the radios and MTV" bullsh** and trying to rip on the name of the venue (Sleeptrain Ampatheatre).....it was pretty lame......

Sycness14, if you want to talk with the big boys you need to know what you're talking about. Metallica would gladly give up their nuts to get back the dignity and Metal Pride MAIDEN has. Maiden were laying the groundwork for Metal as we know it with Priest in the late 70's and early 80's. Shame you're probably so young...cos the 80's were the golden years of Heavy Metal...if you need help in figuring out the right bands to listen too, just ask!

But i just don't get how anyone could like this band. Yeah the 80's were the golden years of metal but it also had the most corny sh** bands also. not directed to anyone, but iron maiden is a very talented band. what happened in san bernardino is bullsh**. bruce d***enson is a bad a$$ and can sing alot better than about 95% of bands that say that they are metal now-a-days. i went to ozfest the beginning of the day on aug 20 and i think the only good bands were sabbath and maiden. the rest blew my sac. hardcore sucks and so does most of (not all) new age 'metal'

Bruce and the boys still got it. And as for SYCNESS........Maiden still sells out shows of 50,000 + with out the help of major endorsments like the Ozzy camp. Just recently Maiden blew away the charts at a record breaking 7 times at #1 for more than just one album and this wasn't back in the 80's this ws tjust this past year. When was the last time you saw Ozzy there or any of the other bands at ozzfest?
Get your sh** strait before you talk. Go home pop in your Osbournes episode collection DVD.
and also don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the heavy sh** too after all one of my fav bands of all time is and was Pantera. yeah Phil did a lot of screaming but the man has soul unlike these stupid whiny teen age angst boys in black makeup screaming and growling and there gutarists playing the same simple cord over and over..........my 13 year old nephue can do that!

believe me I'm not a chart follower, I was refering to a statement you made earlier about Maiden being nobody without ozzfest.
As for the heavy stuff, I love it only if there is atlent involved. Like I said before some of my fav bands such as Pantera ect, all have at least talented people in the band, people who can still shred on guitar with an individualized sound and singers who can yell and scream but at the drop of a hat can actually sing. I find no enjoyment anymore with standing watching band after band go on stage and look and sound the same as the last.
As for the new sh** that's out, you're right I don't listen to it and yeah I'm stuck in the 80's and 90's when it comes to my metal. It's all what you grow up with I guess..........

Guess what!? IRON MAIDEN put out a new album this year.....they continue to make new music and not just replay their old stuff. The Ozzfest camp wanted MAIDEN to play their old stuff from the first albums so that OZZY and Black Sabbath wouldn't look so out-dated! It's a fact, check it out. What, you didn't know?
There are some good new metal bands too....but those are the ones who remember their true Metal roots. You won't hear THEM dissin' any of the METAL GODS!! Megadeth has an album that came out this year too, and there's a song on it called "Back in the Day (and you weren't there.)" Listen to that one, it explains it all.
As for what happened at San Bernadino, here's my quote:

Everybody open their minds and ears.....love ALL METAL...as long as it's good, and be thankful that it is coming back in a big way. Stop fighting over which band is better, 'cuz everybody has different tastes. There's lots of good bands out there, new and old and some that haven't even made it yet! Support any band that even TRIES to be Metal because Metal is more than a sound, it's a way of life!

Bruce kept the crowd riled up, crackin a joke or two and making some pretty bold statements. I wish I would of been next to the d***heads who were throwing things, I would of knocked their teeth down their throat!
All the problems only made the crowd love Maiden more, and when the P.A system chanted Ozzy, we counted with MAIDEN!

Hey Sara666...thanks again. I got my information about Maiden playing their old stuff directly from a Bruce d***inson interview in Metal Edge. He was irritated that IM was not allowed to play anything past their 3rd album at Ozzfest..
It's true that they are promoting a new DVD/CD, "Death on the Road" (which is more than just the first 3 albums) but the band still wanted to play some more current music instead of being restricted. It was mostly Sharon who dictated what the band was to play and for how long, etc. and MAIDEN was the band that was "manipulated" the most.
It doesn't matter though, they could have played "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and still sounded better than Sabbath did in Pheonix. There is no polite way to express how terrible Sabbath sounded. So sad, Black Sabbath and Ozzy were once BAD A S S, but now the only thing bad about them is Sharon's aroma, which over-powers everything Ozzy-related.
I really feel sorry for Ozzy....I hope he can recover somehow. I think he would have sounded better had he performed songs from his solo career rather than the ancient Sabbath stuff. Even though that old stuff is pretty good, I think Ozzy's solo stuff is much better suited for the Ozzfest audience.......just my opinion.
However, I must again let everyone know that

I've been a Maiden fan for almost 20 years and I've never seen or heard of any of the current members being anything but stand up guys. Bruce d***inson is a very intelligent and worldly man (he has written books, been a nationally ranked fencer and holds a commercial pilot's license). If he was frustrated with the sound system and the venues he has good right to be. I saw Ozzfest at Nissan Pavillion near Washington, DC early in the tour and Maiden was noticeably quieter than Sabbath. Nevertheless, Maiden's set was highly energetic. As far as Bruce taking personal shots at Ozzy (needing a teleprompter), my bet is that he was really making a comment on the fact that Ozzy is in no condition to be on the road and probably wouldn't be if Sharon wasn't always blowing all of his money. Trust me, Ozzy is 56 years old and he ain't out there for the love of the fans. He's out there because he needs the money.
As for Sharon screwing up Maiden's show, no matter what her reason, the only people that she screwed over were the fans. When I went to Ozzfest, the T-shirt ratio was at least 3 to 1 (and I didn't even wear my '91 tour shirt because it doesn't fit anymore:). Point is, there was a serious number of fans there because of Maiden. There were also lots of younger folks who'd never seen them before who got screwed as well. Sharon should have remembered that the people in the seats and on the lawn keep her in velvet bloomers and make her livlihood possible. But instead, she put her own personal vendetta before the fans. That shows you what kind of a bi**h she is. If you didn't already know from the fact that she slept with Randy Rhoads.

I went to see Maiden nearly two weeks ago and they said they are going making another album(studio) and then coming back out to tour for their next 4 albums. The night I went to see them was the last stop of the tour, so the whole show and atmosphere was brilliant.
Bruce can sing so much better then the vast majority of singers today. High pitched? AC/DC have high pitched singing... so what? That's part of the sound that people enjoy and love.
The only new metal band I enjoy(and I enjoy them a hell of a lot) are Trivium. They hold potential for keeping new metal going strong but that's the only recent band besides BLS that's keeping metal alive in an increasingly rap/hiphop obsessed society.
Bands like Maiden, AC/DC, Priest, Metallica and G'N'R shaped what the metal scene has become. I don't listen to all of them, but I greatly respect them for what they've done.
