Ozzy Osbourne Retires As Ozzfest Headliner

Band Photo: Ozzy Osbourne (?)
It's been rumored for months that this summer's Ozzfest would be its namesake's last — and on Friday, Ozzy Osbourne announced that he is retiring as the headliner of the annual heavy metal festival. However, the singer is expected to finish this summer's tour and plans to make occasional appearances at future Ozzfests.
"After 10 years, the Ozzfest's name and reputation have been established," he said in a statement. "It's time for me to move on and do other things." His publicist noted in a statement, "Ozzfest will carry on in 2006, however Ozzy will limit his performances to only a few, select cities."
Ozzy, who's been performing with Black Sabbath this summer as the tour's headliner, has been dogged by throat problems, which have forced the band to drop off of the bill on several recent dates, with Black Sabbath cancelling three Ozzfest appearances so far this year (July 27 in Holmdel, New Jersey, July 31 in Noblesville, Indiana and August 2 in Columbus, Ohio).
No official explanation has been given for Ozzy's throat problems, and it is unknown how severe they may be.

Well, it was going to happen sooner or later. I mean, come on, he's been putting on the same show for a long-ass time now. Everytime I go to it, it's the same exact show. Nothing different. Same buckets, same songlist, same everything. It was fun while it lasted, but it's time to move on.

Well ozzfest has not come around redneck NC yet. But i can't wait. If you have not noticed so far i hate rednecks. Last years ozzfest was great in my opinion. But its like all of the f***ing hicks over here could not give many of the bands the respect that they deserve. And for in flames and arch enemy. I like them both. And i think the reason that they are not as popular here in the states because they are from over seas. And that really upsets me. I love metal but its like people from other countries are more dedictated to it than a lot of people here in the states. If you watch concerts from other countries its like the fans are into the whole thing. And the way people jump on the next cool thing here in the states bothers me. Remember when metal was the best thing in the the US from about 1980 to about 1994? And then the alternative stuff really hit. And after a few years of that rap. I hate to say it but its like the fans here are just not dedicated as much as you think they would be. Thats why i would really like to thank all of the metalheads that still stick to it. And its mainly worse down here in the south. I remember Dimmu Borgir playing here last year. They were great. And one of the only bands that were willing to stage dive. But all of the f***ing hicks were asking why do they have paint on their face pah? Whats going on with them daddy? I needa go f*** my daughter now. It was f***ing horrible. Its like the people down here have not respect for these bands. And when they saw otep on stage last year they acted like she was the damn anti-christ. I can recall one redneck saying that they did not think a woman like that should be at a heavy metal show. What the f***.

I would also say that since this is probably the last major ozzfest these are some of the bands i would have liked to see. Not that i'm complaining about the bands there now, because i do like them. But this is my lineup. Stage 2 in no particular order. Soulfly, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, korn, GodForbid, Superjoint ritual, Otep,Crisis, Lamb of god, system of a down, hatebreed, static-x, arch enemy, mudvayne. And the first stage would be bands that have been around for some time. In no particular order. Reunion Sepultura, BLS, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Judas priest, Dimmu Borgir, COF, Pantera Reunion with Zakk Wylde on guitar just because he was Dimebags friend, Van Halen with David Lee Roth, Marylin Manson, Motorhead, Danzig, Megadeth, Although i'm not a big fan anymore but metallica, Black Sabbath, Then Ozzy Solo.

every one has the lows and ozzy can talk for days about his but he is such an important person in heavy metal, your just talkin sh** if you say he is pointless if it wasnt for him and black sabbath we would be locked into a mainstream mind and its dissapointing that you say theat he sucks cause he is the bombdigaty mutha f***ers

i think ozzfest will go on a very long time, there are so many bands out there that would like to headline and prenty more that would still open, even if ozzy himself doesnt play. SOAD, Slayer, Slipknot, Mudvayne, BLS...all bands big enough 2 headline a version of the tour.
18. writes:
The only bands big enough to take over are Iron Maiden and Judas Priest; that's it. No other band has the respect or fanbase to headline. Every metal band in the world almost would love to headline it but that doesn't mean they deserve to. But that's my opinion and everyone's entitled to their own. I will say this, however, if Metallica gets it, Ozzfest will crumble in years.

anyone who trashes ozzy isnt a true metal fan and should'nt be fu*king on this site. so for all you nay saying sh*t bags out there you can go fuk yourselves. I was at the show at shoreline in san jose and anybody who knew ozzy could tell he was f***ing hurting, he was way out of tune and limited his vocals noticably. Through all that the crowd still erupted as much as they did for iron maiden. Ozzy thanked the crowd about 20 times throughout the show. This guy has given his all year in and year out and as a music fan i am f***ing disgruntled to hear people ripping on him. Now that he's retiring just be happy that you saw, or will be seeing one of the greatest rock/metal artists of all time, He deserves your appriciation!
LONG LIVE METAL MOTHERFU**ERS

Ozzy retiring sucks.FU CKING period. I wouldn't doubt it if Zakk Wylde took over from here on just cause ozzy was like a father to him. It would still be a kick a$$ tour and i would definitely go to see it. But yeah sh** happens but their is nothin that anyone can do about it . The only person that can make ozzy perform is Ozzy. Hopefully he'll want to start to perform again in a few years and will Headline ozzfest once again.

38. writes:
Ozzy will only retire when he is confined to a bed which will be years from now. Hes only limiting his appearances so he wont have to cancel shows.
To who ever insults ozzy or sabbath for what ever lame reason should break your best metal album and slit your damn throat.
All hail the original Metal Gods

Ozzy & Black Sabbath will always be the greatest HEAVY METAL BAND OF ALL TIME ...BAR NONE....Sharon Osbourne does not play LEAD GUITAR,BASS, or DRUMS..I guarantee the people that are bagging on OZZY & SABBATH are young punks that think that if your music is not going 300 miles an hour your you suck...Iron Maiden is a GREAT METAL BAND TOO..It is a freaking shame that Bruce d***inson gets caught up in this Soap Opera sh$t with Sharon..Ozzy Still loves Maiden..SLAYER SHOULD HAVE PLAYED AT OZZ FEST IN DEVORE....Rob zombie always kicks ASS.SABBATH PAYED THE USUAL SET..I thought they were going to play SYMPTOM OF THE UNIVERSE In DEVORE ON SATURDAY.OH WELL!!...BLACK SABBATH ARE THE KINGS OF HEAVY METAL.....PERIOD!

I will never ever ever pay another dime to see anything having to do with the Osbournes after the sh** his family pulled. I hope Ozzy himslef wasn't behind any of this sh**. The man needs to step down anyway. If he can't even do 2 shows in a row anymore then it's his time to pass the torch. I have seen Ozzy 6 times over the years and every year becomes worse and worse. I am not a huge fan of his anyway but still, to have a man who is unable to perform being force to play by his money hungry plastic wife is disgusting!
anyway............... UP THE BLOODY IRONS!!!!!!!!!! .......................Maidenfest anyone?

Leave politics out of Ozzfest! fine. If Sharron wanted to make a statement, she should have confined it to her little speech. Messin' with the music/ performance was a disservice to loyal fans. I want some sort of recompence for the loss of at lest three good Maiden songs.

49. writes:
I was appalled at the treatment Iron Maiden received in Ca. on Aug 20-and I thought Sharron Osbourne was way out of line publicly disrespecting Bruce d***inson the way she did. As far as the a--hole throwing eggs-f---ing grow up and go take your nap you cranky a$$ punk I wasn't too impressed with Sabbath after all the BS-Iron Maiden perservered-they truly are the TROOPERS!! The coolest thing was taking my 19 year old daughter to her first Ozzfest!

52. writes:
There are enough good bands out there to make Ozzfest legit without Ozzy. As long as they keep it metal and don't let sh**ty emo/screamo sh** take over it will be fine. Although it's safe to say that Maiden won't be appearing at an Ozzfest near you anytime soon
