"some music was meant to stay underground..."

Lamb Of God Tired Of Touring

In a recent interview with ChartAttack.com, Lamb of God singer, Randy Blythe, gripes about being on the road. Several excerpts taken from the article:

ChartAttack: You’ve been playing for years and now you’re starting to see some success. How are you dealing with it?

Randy Blythe: I don’t really want to go on tour. I’ve been on the road for fucking ever. I don’t get to have a normal life like other people. In theory I’m excited but in reality, fuck it.

"Fuck it" seems to be the stance from most bands that only start to reap rewards from their music years after starting. It’s like they’re too tired to really enjoy it by this point.

We were never hoping for success. We formed a band to play music and we’re fortunate that we’ve gotten to the point we have. It’s my job now and I don’t have to work a regular job which is cool. But over the past year, people don’t realize that we’ve been together for a decade and on the road non-stop for that long. It burns you out. I didn’t plan on this happening and I’m not complaining, but I’m shocked.

I find it funny because you have reason to gripe. People complain about being away for two weeks of vacation and that kind of traveling.

Pussies. Weaklings. Don’t get me wrong. I love what I do but I’m fuckin’ tired! (laughs). That Sounds Of The Underground Tour? What fuckin’ idiot set that up? You can put that in the article too. What fuckin’ idiot? I sing for 14 shows in a row and I don’t exactly sing like Pavarotti… wait until my fucking throat blows out. I’m slowly becoming a crusty-fried burnout from this. We just got off the road with Slipknot, we’ve been through Europe and now I’ve got 14 more shows? Fuck!

It's like anything....If you do something every day of your life you just get tired....

I drove cross country with some friends for 3 weeks a few years back and we had a ball but those last 2 days of just solid driving were blah......We just wanted to be home again and get away from eachother and not hear the sound of a Nissan engine or eat at McDonalds......which ofcourse pales to a band that tours like LOG....

When LOG take a break and get away from all of the repittion and stress they'll be raring to go again....Theres just not really an end in site for some of these bands.

Nice one JT! I have the utmost respect for Lamb of God though. So true RememberMetal? I used to work for a PC game company right out of college, but after 4+ years of doing that, it became work. Everyone else thought it sounded so cool, but it still became work and wasn't as great you'd think. I could see playing music, especially being on the road all the time being similar.

I have tix to the SOTU show for El Paso...that's next Tuesday...as long as Randy can handle touring until then...it'll be OK...after that he can feel free to take off as many shows as he wants. And Muffie...you must of caught them on an off night...try again...LOG very rarely disappoints.

Unfortunately, I didn't see them @ Pops, but I have to agree with Randy: Who the hell organised that flaming hunk of turd they were billing as a festival? Short list of the good bands there:GWAR, LoG, Opeth, DevilDriver, Madball, and SYL. The rest of the "bands" not only sounded the same, most of the croud just stood there for their whole set. I'd like to give huge props to fear before the march of flames for being the hands down worst band not only on that tour, but the worst I've ever had the misfortune of seeing and hearing.

What are you guys talking about?

First off, I don't really think Randy was dissing the bands at Sound of the Underground. Moreso, he's probably dissing the fact that they play like, every f***ing day. I'm sure every other band gets tired with a show pretty much every day too.

Secondly, the Sounds of the Underground has some great bands. The Red Chord was one that went unnoticed, and costing about 20 bucks less than Ozzfest is costing, I think it's a great way to offer people a good show without spending all the dollars to see it.

Blythe wasn't dissing bands in that statement about the SOTU tour, he was dissing who created it.

He's tired, obviously, but if you can't handle the heat, get the f*** out of the kitchen.

LOG are way past due for a break......

They were on the road for "As the palaces Burn" for ages....ran into the studio put "Ashes" to wax and ran back out the door before it could even close itself and resumed touring.

Cranky is the operating word for people who live a truckers life by day and then scream and move their fingers arms and legs at full speed at night, get tore up afterward and repeat......

Folks that sh** would get tiring but the band must feel obligated to see this tour to the end and thats pretty noble of them.

Yeah, they could use a break, but if they knew that they're going be playing x number of shows a week, they could've asked to play every other day or something.

hey reaper the squirrel - 14 shows is too much?? are you kidding??They are in a freaking metal band..and u are (or u say you are anyways) in a band urself than u should know that u suck if u can barelly make it through 8 songs.. im in a band myself and i know its hard to do but suck it up, stop complaining, and just do it. i do that cause i love performing in front of people on a stage where all people are listening to what iv written..its amazing..and if he's complaining about singing so much than he shouldn't be signed to a record label..i mean come on.. i love lamb of god's cds and the singer randy cause hes freakin awesome but he should have the passion and the love for music to sing for his fans who are paying to go listen to him..i know its hard to tour so many days but they should have told whoever books their gigs to NOT book their gigs for a while..you dont start complaining in the middle of a tour...

Has anyone here ever said anything in a moment of passion because they were angry, sad, careless or stark raving furious, and then 15 minutes later gone:

"oops.."

When your -------MOOD!!!!!----- is documented for fans and non-fans on a daily basis by 21 year old guys/girls with a clipboard and a tape recorder your going to say things that maybe fresh on your mind at the moment....Not something grand, thought provoking, original or provound.....And if your tired you may just end up talking about being tired.

Supose 2 days after this interview Blythe played one of his most memorable shows ever. His statement from 48 hours prior would be null.

MetalmAn1257 its not i dont suck it up its that it is hard to get through that many shows without your vocal cords and ur throat hurting i just drink some water or milk or some kind of liquidy beverage and keep singing.

..milk? thats horrible for someone to drink to sing..id for sure go with water or iced tea.. but i dont know you so maybe milk works for you..i dont know.. randy probably does drink something to help him but he should take lessons to help him get bettter so he can sing whatever he wants whenever he wants. like a certain way to practice or a certain thing to do after a show to help his voice for the next day or a certain thing to drink that he hasnt been drinking or something like that..he just has to get better at doing what he does..that way his voice wouldnt go downhill as fast as it would without the help and he'd be able to perform more..he just has to get better..thats all it is..

A couple of shots of jack daniels would more than help loosen up his throat before a show. It might get him alittle drunk depending on if he can hold his liqour.Whatever. yeah though i understand about getting tired after a couple of songs.I'm guitar player and after about 8 or 9 songs my hand might start to cramp up a little but our vocalist just talks to the crowd for a bit a talks about the songs we're playin so the rest of the band can get a little rest. But it's nothin a good 6 hours of practice a day for about a 2 weeks or so couldn't fix. You just gotta stay with it thats all.
