Sevendust Talk About New Album

SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose recently spoke to MTV.com about the recording process for the group's new album, "Next". SEVENDUST's fifth disc, "Next" is the band's first release for the Universal-affiliated WineDark Records after a lengthy stint with TVT Records.

Regarding the songwriting process for the new CD, Rose said, "There was no one really to tell us what to do — and over the past few records, there had been a lot of opinions from a lot of people on a lot of different aspects of the records. We pretty much had the reins to do what we wanted on this record, so we really were able to not worry about any outside influences. I don't want to sound too cliché, but we went back to our roots, because we were able to do some stuff that hadn't been accepted very readily over the last few records.

"Over the last few records, the powers that be were telling us that we didn't need to be doing what we were doing," Rose explained. "We were told, 'You need to be listening to the WHITE STRIPES and the STROKES' — we were told, point blank, to go buy WHITE STRIPES and STROKES records to see what they sound like. I almost fell out of my chair when I heard that. It was like, 'Houston, there's a major f---ing problem here.' "

Rose decribes the new album, due on October 11, as "definitely a hybrid of heavy stuff and melodic stuff, but we don't leave much room for interpretation. It's a straightforward record."

straightforward is good. I like all of their albums but "Home" and "Animosity" were my favorites. Whats going to suck is not having Clint Lowery on guitar and sharing vocal duties.

Eesh...whitestripes and the strokes...record companies are f***ed up.....I'm glad their off TVT, Trent Reznor had creative problems with that label as well.

"Home" is the best sevendust album hands fukin down... but with out clint lowery i dont think Lajon can carry them... Clint was a HUGE part of the band, writing guitars, vocals, and even drums to MOST songs. with out Clint, i dont think there going to be as good as they were. I'l looking forward to clints new band... my bro told me all the aspects of it, but i'm buzzin, and i forgot... so just type his name on this site and find out about it.

Hell yeah ! HOME and ANIMOSITY are my sh**.What I wan't to know is why the f*** would TVT tell them to listen to the WHITE STRIPES as a point of reference.....Obviously their a little too busy keeping Lil Jon and all his cronies happy to think about what the f*** their doing with their other acts.

Clint Lowery is a punk. I agree he was a strong presence in the band. But to leave 4 guys you played with for 8 years IN THE MIDDLE OF A TOUR is a b!ich a$$ move. I hate Clint now. He should have finished the tour at least. I have the Dark New Day CD and its OK. I was worried about "Next", but after listening to the first single "Ugly" I am no longer worried. The band can do it all without the cancer that was Clint Lowery. I hope Dark new Day fails miserably.

madanotsob, check out "pieces" you can hear it on sevendust.info.
Dark new day sounds a lot like most of the rock bands out now, and you can hear the sevendust influence in the music, or Lowery's influence I should say.
Still think Sevendust's debut is the best record they've put out

I have the Dark new Day record. It has heavy Sevendust influences. Its a decent album overall, but I cant get over how Clint left these guys flat on the road. I had a show get cancelled because of what he did. Bottom line, Chint is a piece of trash in my book.

UGLY is a great single for Sevendust. Fint it on Real downloads. Its the entire song too. Ive heard it 20 times. The lack of Clints voice has no effect on this song at all.
