German Festival Death Not Caused By Wall of Death

The 26-year-old heavy metal fan who passed away during this past weekend's Pressure Festival in Germany died from complications brought about by a pre-existing heart condition and not as a result of injuries sustained while taking part in an aggressive form of slam-dancing, police in Bochum, Germany announced on Tuesday (June 28). The cause of Marco Grewen's death was found to be unrelated to the extreme type of "moshing" called "wall of death," a form of concert dancing where the crowd is split down the middle and on the signal, both sides ram into each other.

The German media had previously reported that approximately 2,000 people took part in the "wall of death" during HATEBREED's performance at the festival. A total of 25 people were reportedly taken to local hospitals to be treated for various injuries — including fractures — sustained during the three-day event.

The "wall of death" was famously popularized by LAMB OF GOD during their Ozzfest 2004 stint where it became a regular part of the group's live performance. [Download a Quicktime video file of the Wall of Death recorded during last year's Ozzfest.]

Thanks to RollMonkey for the tip.

I don't know why the media goes on trying to describe the Wall of Death as a form of "dancing" when it is clearly not anythign of the sort. IF metalheads wanted to dance, they'd be listening to techno instead :-o

yeah heh i hate those "karate moshers" as well as you called them lol i like to call them retards, cause that's what they look like, retarded people ATTEMPTING to do karate moves. however, the wall of death is crazy as sh** and it's not dancing, it's just about a few hundred people running at each other like in an old-time war or football game. anyone who goes in there voluntarily is or should be aware they're probably going to have something get hurt or broken during it....if they don't know about the consequences they shouldn't do it....so it's their own fault and the media shouldn't be twisting it around to make anyone feel bad for people who got injured, they got injured doing something risky, you don't feel bad for people who hurt themselves or who are aware of the dangers yet still do it, so that's their problem.

Thanks a ton for the credit, bro.

Like I said before, I'm really glad the Wal didn't cause the dude's death. Let's hope the media will screw off and leave our pits alone.

Hah, I'm glad we don't dance either. It'd lose a lot of feel to see Lamb of God spinning glowsticks and shaking thier hips back and forth all the time.

(i cant run fast but one i ge goign its hard to stop),sounds like "creaming" someone may have jarred your brain a bit there, and you probably have jerk off fantasies about the f***ing singer noticing you in the crowd of hair farmers too, don't you.
