Mudvayne Bassist Explains Ozzfest's Mystery Band Idea

Launch Radio Networks reports: When the lineup for this summer's Ozzfest was posted online last month, one main stage slot was left open for a "mystery band," with names like MEGADETH, ANTHRAX, SYSTEM OF A DOWN and DISTURBED all mentioned as possible candidates. That honor eventually went to MUDVAYNE, and bassist Ryan Martinie told Launch what he thought the whole "mystery band" hoopla was really about. "I think that was kind of, a little, uh, it was supposed to be incentive for people to buy, I think," he said. "At least I hope we were used for that reason, being that we were the mystery band, you know, didn't show who we were. So it was supposed to be an exciting thing for people to go, 'Oh, cool, MUDVAYNE's on the bill now, you know, there's another reason to go.' At least I hope that was the mindset anyway."
Ozzfest kicks off on July 15 in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
MUDVAYNE's show on Tuesday night (April 19) in Charleston, South Carolina, was canceled when guitarist Bryan Ottoson of opening act AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE was found dead in his bunk on the AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE tour bus. At press time, there was no official word on the cause of death, nor any official statement from the band. The promoter posted a message online confirming the death and saying that the show would be rescheduled. There's no word on whether tonight's (Wednesday, April 20) date in Lake Buena Vista, Florida would be affected. LIFE OF AGONY and BLOODSIMPLE are also featured on the bill.
