It's everything we've been waiting seven years for: a new Dimmu Borgir album is coming! Oh, no, wait... that's not it at all.
Norwegian symphonic black metal giant Dimmu Borgir finally emerges from the depths of darkness to mark 2017 with double DVD "Forces Of The Northern Night," due out April 14th.
This new DVD will contain two of the band's live rituals: a show in Oslo, presenting Dimmu Borgir on stage with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and a bombastic choir, as well as the entire performance at Wacken Open Air 2012 with almost 100 musicians on stage.
The shows guide fans through classics from the band's discography - from the majestic finisher "Mourning Palace" to the stomping manifesto "Puritania" and the haunting "Gateways." Front man Shagrath comments:
"For us, this is the pinnacle of our career so far. As a band, we've always used a lot of symphonic elements in our music. But we haven't been able to use a real orchestra. We've had to use samples, synthesisers and so on, so this was a huge, awesome experience for us!"

Anyone remember the articles of a 2014 release, then a 2015 release and even that recent "Dimmu Hints Heavily of 2016 Release"?
I hate to belittle such a talented group, but I'm fed up with the group going almost completelt silent on album progress, with only an occasional picture or 20 second clip of work being done. I was excited for years, then it just fizzled. I hope that they're live DVD has some kind of improved audio quality over what the world has already seen on various video streams over the last few years, because if this doesn't impress me, I'm just done.

At this point I'd agree with that. It's been forever since Old Man's Child. We're overdue for a lot of bands from that sector that never seem to show up anymore. ICS Vortex never did release a follow-up to his 2011 solo album, and Diabolical Masquerade has been on the back burner since '01!
