Abolitionist Releases 1st Song "Under Penalty Of Being Blocked"
Grind duo Abolitionist just released its first-ever song online titled "Under Penalty of Being Blocked." Check it out below. The band also comments:
"...aaaand here it is! Check it out - our first song, all 19 glorious seconds of it (Q: does a song technically require singing? A: who cares?). Time Attack Mode: See if you can read our new bio before the end of the song. Gogogo.
"Abolitionist is a grindcore recording project started by Chris Hawkins and Ollie Hynes in Nov 2016. The music is written in what would generally be considered reverse order, starting with Hynes' charged political lyrics. The lyrics are then broken into 'rhythmically interesting' patterns before drums are programmed and guitars are written and recorded. The low frequencies of Hawkins' heavily downtuned 7-string guitars are then manipulated to produce bass guitar-like tones.
"Can we stop writing this in the third person now? Okay so we used to have a band together in our teens and we've missed writing music together since. Unfortunately Ollie now lives in a different country and Chris has found himself co-running a music school and fronting various bands, so forming a band together isn't really do-able. So, we've put together this recording project here as a lyrical and musical outlet which we hope to work on as-and-when time allows. It could be a matter of months between new recordings, but keep yourself posted at our Facebook page for more angry semi-experimental noise. Noise?...Noish?...Noice!"
