SYSTEM OF A DOWN's new single, "B.Y.O.B.", can be previewed in its entirety at MTV.com.
"B.Y.O.B." comes off "Mesmerize", the first half of SYSTEM OF A DOWN's new double album, "Mesmerize/Hypnotize". "Mesmerize" is due on May 17 while "Hypnotize" is expected to surface sometime this fall.
"B.Y.O.B.", which stands for "Bring Your Own Bombs," contains a lyric questioning a president's involvement in the business of war: "Why don't presidents fight the war?/Why do they always send the poor?/Why do they always send the poor?"
SYSTEM OF A DOWN will headline the "Souls, 2005" benefit concert in Los Angeles on Sunday, April 24 at the Universal Amphitheatre. Doors are at 7:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 8:15 p.m.

harder...like thats the ONLY thing that matters...
grow up.
If your only looking for raw intensity sit down to some Napalm Death, Dillinger Escape Plan,Converge or Pig Destroyer.
Otherwise youre just letting your politics, i would assume highly (texan) conservative, get in the way of better judgement....Every member of SOAD are musicians of the highest caliber....So quality cant REALLY be what has you against them. Or you just like straight ahead metal and don't like the idea of music thats electic....
either way it's your loss pal and weirdly I feel sorry for you.

the song is okay but there are way too many changes in tempo. their music doesn't sound good when they do triplets and alot of the song is in triplets. they are also too politcal but most of the other music is good. who is bon scott? are you referencing john bonham, who also died from choking on his vomit.

Presidents do fight in wars, look at George Washington and Teddy Roosevelt!!
Nowadays we live in a society plagued by fear that the president would be assasinated, so he's one of the most protected people in this country. So quit your b****ing and talk about something that means something.

i think thats missing the point of the question,
(why dont president fight the wars, why do they always send the poor?)
It's OUR leaders who have these problems with other countries....If ANY other person other than George W. Bush had been in office, do you honestly think we would have invaded iraq?
Of course not. To think otherwise is silly.
As far as being worried about our president being assasinated in combat...no other president other than Clinton has gone SO out of his way to avoid being drafted.....BUSH was able to skirt that responsibility because of his wealthy and politically connected family nothing in our military was safer than COAST GUARD duty.....any unbiased publication will tell you that, unclassified political documents will also tell you that.
The message of the song isnt meant to be taken literally either...If you had a problem with someone you would confront them directly...right? not send big guys with guns to that person....Our leaders and the leaders of other countries are the ones with problems with eachother...
Not the mechanic from Illinois and the barber from from Basrah....these people wouldnt be trading bullets with eachother if our leaders and other leaders didnt have problems with eachother....And in the case of the guy from Basrah, his choice is FIGHT the war or be executed.....our solidier is a little better off but he's only risking his life because BurgerKing cant feed his 2.3 kids.
But dont kid yourself into thinking Bush would have ever fought in real combat...His service record shows he went waaaay out of his way to not get into combat situations....
Now I may do the same thing in his shoes, Im not too keen on being shot by a scared stranger....
BUT I would never send people to die in a war where there was no threat of nukes, when I myself wouldnt fight that same battle (or a similar war like, Vietnam) alongside of those troops. it purely hypocritical.
Also Washington was fighting for a much more noble cause.....Bush fights for OIL....If you think it's because of oppression then theirs about 30-40 other psycho warlords in South America.....OUR BACK YARD so to speak, and Africa who are just as hostile and ruthless to their people as Iraqs fromer leaders.
And therein lies the meaning of soads statement.

I trust you mean warwithin by shadows fall....is heh....harder than system of a down.....my question is...so what?...harder doesnt always = better...though I like both bands more or less equally....their not among my favorites but what they are both great at what they do.
Also I think anyone who is willing to support the war in Iraq by saying i'm FOR it, should probably enlist in the army so THEY can be there....Not spend their time on a metal website. I mean...What are doing HERE???
The troops really do need you, their getting hacked to bits by insurgents as we speak and every man counts!!!! If you back this thing in Iraq that half the solidiers over there right now dont want to be a part of you could at least do your part, because our leaders are so affraid to enact a draft (there would be riots in the streets minutes after the declaration and they KNOW it) our poor troops are more or less being abused to keep fighting a war because Bush didnt really spend the time on a withdraw/aftermath plan....
Besides a a cage match between W. and Saddam would have been awesome, we could have held it in some neutral country like Sweden! To make things interesting we could have electric bars and put brass knuckles and spurs (like in a c*** fight!) on their feet....then i would have cheered my a$$ off for Bush!

i had something wrong with my brain when i couldn't remember who bon scott was. i'm retarded. anyway, brokenwings13 is right about the presidents fighting in war(there are plenty more presidents too)(post 33). the president doesn't send the poor by the way. people who are in the army aren't drafted anymore. it's by there own will and they get payed to do it. serj is unfortunately a socialist retard or something so he thinks that anything america does is wrong.

42. writes:
They aren't going to use the draft on this war.
I know there are plenty more presidents that fought in wars, I just mentioned two of them as examples.
Anywho, basically, if the "poor" are the ones in the war, what are the "rich" doing?
Do you know how much the military pays you to fight? And besides, it's their want to go in and sign up.
Oh yeah, by the US governments standards, I'm poor.

48. writes:
all of you should stop criticizing other people's music, for while you don't appreciate it, others do... and maybe you should all stop wasting your time saying bad s#@! about SoaD and listen to your preppy punk rock. OK? SO SHUT THE F*** UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

51. writes:
Love the BYOB song.
I'm not much for the lack of rhythm in the 'harder' parts, but they have a sweet refrain going. I could rock to that alone all night.
I'm just getting bored with every other band's political connotations like it makes a difference that they sing about governmental issues. Forget it...

55. writes:
alright. system of a down rocks. but what i dont see is why dont you f***ers just spell out f*** instead of sayin "oh f*** that, f*** this" jus spell it out. oh ya, listen to as i lay dying, chevelle, it dies today, dead poetic, emery, from autumn to ashes.......stuff like that their cool too!

68. writes:
I don't usually comment about anything on these f***ing blogs, but some of you are just down right idiotic. I can't stand people who judge music in a negative way just because it is different. All of you brainwashed f***s out there that believe music has to replicate the same old 4/4 key of A bullsh** that you hear on the radio in order to be acceptable. Just because your feeble minds can't grasp anything that isn't written by some producer that has a formula for what type of melody will hypnotize you into thinking you like it just because you remember it and whistle it at work. System rocks on many levels. f*** Texas, you small d***, big hat wearing f***s!

to me
Well, as much as you hate system of a down their probably going to get all kinds of critical praise and album sales because their the most original sounding metal-ish band on a major at this moment.
Their song writting only gripes you because A.) your too dimwitted to grasp it or B.) you wear your republican views on your sleeve and what they have to say pinches a raw nerve and you dont want to hear any part of it......
Also the singers style is a bit differnt from 99.8% (yes Jello Biafra is somewhat similar) of other "rock" vocalists.....you can say that they sold out by being on ozzfest but then your saying the same thing about 2/3 of the bands people at this site love and praise have sold out too....until you can give us an informed opinion...Learn english, and grow up.
"12 year olds with still-developing brain function with nothing to back their opinions up are funny"

hehe probably before your time... Jello Biafra(male) was the singer for punk (real f***ing punk) band the Dead Kennedys....Crazy stuff....but if your spoiled by good or even modern production you may well not like DK....it's gritty old early 80 punk, mean as all hell, but it sounds like it was made with $10.00 of production funds....but thats the nature of punk.
More on the topic....Biafra sounds a little bit like Serj Tankian in the vocal department....Not so much the last 2 system albums but the first one....and as far as drums bass and guitar work goes SOAD are VERY differnt from DK.....so unless you like old school punk i'd stay away.

soad sux so much a** i have seen them perform live and they are terrible and annoying i have even seen good charl in concert not cause i wanted too cause they suk as well only reason i went was to see mxpx anyway gc was f***ing better than soad and that isnt saying much at all soad just needs to give up their careers as musicians besides why would u want to listen to them when there is alot better bands out there such as: HIM, Mudvayne, Devil Driver, Atreyu.... etc.....

85. writes:
its funny how many people come to a posting for a band just to bash it...
i wish i had the spare time to jack off at home, looking at my computer all day, finding ways to be found on the web too... can i be like you?
seriousley people. if you want total thrash metal, go to a scrap yard at scrape yoru teeth on a radiator, if you want metal that you can actually listen to? theres godo bands, SoaD is juts one of em.
but come on... get a f***ING LIFE!!! and at least find something that actually sucks to stab comments at... such as teen pregnancey, or the french.

86. writes:
Are you joking with yourselves? "System of a Down is too political"......your a jack a$$ for ever saying that. Of course they are political, Thats the point of the band u f***ing dipsh**. System is a sick band, and if you want raw power and heaviness than go listen to cannible corpse or Krisiun and get your sh** outta here. Dumb f***s
Good music isn't just sound, its the lyrics, the sound is just to drag u into the lyrics and message of the song. Without a good base, a song is sh**. Sure some songs may sound good, but if the message is the same old Kill kill kill eat fetus blood guts and f*** the masses, than a band is doing nothing original and they suck.
87. writes:

probably guitarist Daron Malakian on the refrain, the guy has a really high voice. You can hear him doing harmonies w/serj on "Chop Suey" and "Aerials" as far the singles go. Havent heard the song more than once or twice because i loath radio...so i'm just guessing.

89. writes:
The only reason why half of u idiots like soad is because they were on mtv total request if they werent ever on there alot of u wouldnt even know who they are and mainly all u like is bands that are very popular so u can say that u r cool and in style fuk all of that besides soad is horrible way to repetitive and just flat out sux

91. writes:
First of all mtv blows huge floppy donky d*ck, secondly i havent heard anything that isnt rap on that stattion for about 5 years now. So go f*ck your mother pigpiles. And i am sure that your one of those fags who worship dany filth from cradle you sad little fa**ot. SOAD is by far one the greatest f*cking bands in existance. And to all you other fags Daron Malakian is a damn musical genius and Serj just makes the band 100 times better with his random vocals. Thats what makes System of a down who they are so f*** you all SOAD is the SH*T!!!!!!!!!!!

93. writes:
As far as sending the president to war is concerned, we as citizens of America entrust the president to make those types of decisions. If he didn't make them, then who would? Someone else would just be blamed for the same exact thing, being the "president " or not. Besides, we can't have people walking all over us in a world in the shape it's in today. We must make a stand for ourselves, being the most hated country in the world. As far as I am concerned, Bush made the right decision. I love System Of A Down's music, but some of their political views are annoying, while some are rational. Basically...if you don't like the ways of the U.S., go the f*** back where you came from and see how perfect it is there.

95. writes:
why can't u all just admit that u all secretly lov system of a down and listen to it all the time. i mean comeo on. how can u seriously not like them. if u listen to ARIELS on toxicity album then u'll see that they are one of the best rockers in the r**king world.

97. writes:
i like system of a down's sound, agression, and energy but hate some of the lyrics. honestly, bands need to stop being so damn political. as a serving member in the military, i don't consider myself poor, and volunteered to join up. i can speak for myself. i don't need someone to talk for me. and btw, 80-85% of the military like bush, and support this war.

100. writes:
System of a Down has the same problems that Rage Against The Machine had, a long stupid name and a terrible vocalist. Hopefully in the future we can get a group as good as Audioslave out of the rubble that will be S.O.A.D. because the music is tight, but all the moaning and whining sounds need to go.
102. writes:
to pigpiles
wow, i hate to burst yer bubble there pigpiles but i saw soad play a tiny little bar show at a place called headliners in early 1999 dude.....i've been aware of system while you were still in gradeschool listening to mxpx and good charlotte chump....one day you'll understand that others besides yourself have channels and connections to metal and alternative music. grow up.
to randomality and everyone in general
as far as soads politics, i pose this:
"why let it get in the way of enjoying a good melody, or some inspired riffing or peculiar vocal harmonies"
All good stuff i think, and thier certainly unorthodox in their delivery and they still get radio play....whether you hate them ( and hating them is justified ) or love them...or if your in my boat and just "like" them then your not going to let a little thing like a message get in the way....
Do u encourage or act out the maddness of a black metal, grind or death metal song????
if so your doing 10 to life in a maximum security prison, 'cus thats some f***ed up sh** that comes out of bands like Napalm Death and Carnal Forge.
so that whole "i dont agree with the message" bit is moot for alot of you... not all of you....but sometimes we all contradict what we think and what we say, with how we behave....it very human, deal with it.
lastly while i've said this a million times...I DON'T agree with some of what Soad have to say..."prison song" is solidly indisputable, but alot of their stuff is just opinions....and opinions, if these forums have taught me anything, ARE GOOD....
There are fevered republicans in and out of music pushing the conservative agenda like theres no tomorrow, and the exact same can be said for liberals and their precious progressive agenda.....it's a ying yang tug of war without an end.........theres just no good or bad, though everyone feels they champion the "true" hero....sad paradigm.
AND IT IS AMERICAN AND WE SHOULD BE GLAD that this kind of discourse even exists.............
It's fun to dispute things...to disagree and make solid cases for both sides we have a govt in flux at all times and freedom of speech in both print, song and spoken word
HOOORAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
kk im done, over and out, sorry but it had to be said
104. writes:
longwinded as all bloody hell but i read it....points for effort, points for making a good case but that could have been said in shorter form....
i really liked the bit on the lyrics though, the whole death/black metal angle and people disagreeing with soad lyrics....you dont have to subscribe to (the lyrics) killing and church burnings to like black/death metal....same with soad, you can disagree with what their saying and go out and do the opposite of what they preach and still like the music.
people take that political with us or against us angle when they proclaim distaste or love for soad, but what about jus liking the music for what it is?...wow i said too much too.

105. writes:
hey every one who hate SOAD is my enemy dude,, they rock the stage they rock the cd player and the mp3 player and every electronic device with a speaker,, and most they rock my brain and i love this band and i preordered the new cd with a shirt dude its coming and im waiting woooooooooohooo
