System of a Down has confirmed that Disc One ("Mezmerize") from the band's 2-disc set, "Mezmerize/Hypnotize," will be released on May 17, 2005. Disc Two ("Hypnotize") is expected to see a late fall release.
The first single from "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" will be the track "B.Y.O.B." [Bring Your Own Bombs] which will hit the airwaves this month. The song, which questions a president's involvement in the business of war, balances a near-R&B groove - "Everybody's going to the party have a real good time/Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine" - with the song's recurring demand, "Why don't presidents fight the war?/Why do they always send the poor?/Why do they always send the poor?"
System of a Down will relaunch their website - www.systemofadown.com this evening. The revamped site will offer intriguing glimpses of the artwork for ³Mezmerize/Hypnotize,² much of which was designed and painted by Vartan Malakian, guitarist/producer Daron Malakian's father.
System of a Down wrote some thirty tracks for "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" and recorded them at producer Rick Rubin's Laurel Canyon studio between June and November of 2004. The album was produced by Rubin and Daron Malakian and mixed by Andy Wallace, who also mixed "Toxicity" and "Steal This Album!" The new songs are more complex, more progressive, more unorthodox, and more experimental than ever, while retaining the idiosyncratic, ironic and schizophrenic qualities that make System of a Down so distinctive. Topics include relationships, the evils of television and corporate mind control, the mysteries of life and death, and a surreal experience at a celebrity baseball game. Some of the song titles are "Radio Video," "Old School Hollywood," "Cigaro," "Lost in Hollywood," "Question," "Vicinity of Obscenity" and "Revenga." The decision to release the two discs six months apart was made simply to give fans time to get into and really live with the music from Disc One before plunging into Disc Two.

feh...most bands want their album out ASAP.......labels do this sh** so they can boast and preach and get airplay and video play maxed out before it hits the stores for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ so i dont really feel compelled to blame the band...i imagine they have more than enough money to take care of themselves.....label people suck...flatout

another release change date? the very first date i heard for this was LAST f***ING SEPTEMBER from revolver or some mag like that. argh. System makes it so hard to keep interested when they keep moving the date. used to be my favorite band, but not anymore. oh well, at least it has to come out sometime.

frankly Ray I dont think SOAD will care if u buy their album or not cause ur havin a b***h bout the release date. Obviously they aint gonna release an album in september when it was first said when the song choice for the albums wasnt complete, wasnt gonna happen in march cause it hadnt been mixed yet so instead of whinging why not look at logiv and use ure f***ing brain. I for one have been looking forward to this album since toxicity, ive heard some of their new songs: cigaro, kill rock 'n' roll and holy mountain. all of which are fantastic and i cant wait to hold that album in my hands. And dont go downloading it off kazaa, whats the point? U can never say you own the actual album

Thanks andrew that was kick-ass. A real good songs with some different ideas to the previous but with the same system trademark sound. Definately measures up to the great songs of the previous 3 record. Can't wait for the album to come out. I dont mind the date, judging by this song its worth waiting for!!!

unless "sigh" is a 19 year old(obviously 32) 110 lb 5.4 inch tall girl (probably not) i want no part of the c***sucking....but thanks for the offer pwrlftr
Furthermore it's only because your so condtioned to love that radio-ready filth with conventional time signatures and the uber-simple verse-chorus-verse-chorus-verse-BIG HIGH DRAMA FINAL CHORUS-fade format.....i dunno maybe something like chopsuey.....a good song but a very tired format........ that you arent open-minded enough to handle something a little bit left of center. what is real rock sigh????
kindly go f*** yourself.

It should be cool, I mean how many times do we hear "The new songs are more complex, more progressive, more unorthodox, and more experimental than ever"??
Normally all I hear is "Yeah our new album is gonna be a total slap in the face to our fans, we are gona sell out and go mainstream cuz thats where the $$$ is, the kids are gonna lap this up...."
