Otep To Headline Ozzfest 2005?

Band Photo: Otep (?)
I stumbled upon this article via Google that mentions Otep headlining this year's Ozzfest (likely referring to headlining the second stage) as well as an interview with frontwoman Otep Shamaya. Here's a bit from the interview:
AE: Is this your first band ever?
O: This is my first band. I tooled around with musicians, but I was never formally trained. Equipment, timing, different time signatures, I didn’t know any of that stuff. I sat with musicians, learned a little bit by osmosis. It’s a completely different mental process from writing.
When I started the band I found a manager and I brought my books over, my journals and all my illustrations in this big pile. “This is what I want, I want to turn this into music”. And he looked at me and said “OK, let’s try it, let’s find some musicians.”
What we do is a little different, it’s not just your typical metal show. It’s not hair metal or glam or anything of that nature. It’s sort of a dissident cabaret, its theater and in the highest respect to someone like Antonin Artaud. It’s delivering the experience of the topic of the song versus just singing about it, we actually live every moment of the song onstage. Without fire or any sort of theatrics or anything. It’s all through the act of performance.
AE: How did Capitol [Records] find you guys?
O: We were doing local shows around LA and the buzz started and all of a sudden we start noticing suits in the corners watching us and on their phones and their little Blackberries. A friend of ours was our manager at the time and he started coming over and saying “Hey they want to showcase you.” It was a bunch of major labels which was really bizarre, because I never thought we’d get that.
(Be warned that the interview is on a lesbian/bisexual site focused on women in entertainment and the media. And yes, I really did find it via Google...not part of my everyday reading ;-)

MadK- Right on. I was blown away by Priest and Sabbath. And Slayer too.
Im a big fan of Otep, but I dont think the rest of the people coming to Ozzfest would want to see them headline. It's about time they started their own headlining tour, which is hitting a city near me sometime soon. I like the idea of Lamb of God and Shadows Fall co-headlining Ozzfest or whatnot. Id wouldnt mind seeing both Mudvayne and Fear Factory headline Ozzfest. If Maiden does play Ozzfest, wouldn't they play main stage? I think it would be f***ing awesome to get up close in the crowd with Iron Maiden on the second stage, rather than the main stage.. Just as long as I get to see them. I would also like to see (european) bands like Gutworm or Mnemic on the second stage.

Personally, i think it would be pretty cool if Otep headlined the 2nd stage at Ozzfest. Sure, the crowd wouldn't be very numerous, but myself along with many other diehard Otep fans would definetly enjoy it. Otep is geared a lot more towards the underground metal scene, and not so much in the mainstream. So i think that in a big production tour such as Ozzfest, it is unlikely that they would headline the 2nd stage. But like i said, I would enjoy it very much.

I caught the Alliance of Defiance tour in San Francisco. Now that was a kick a$$ show. That was my 4th time seeing Otep. Candiria was pretty cool. Autumn Offering was really great. American Head Charge was f***in awesome. I've waited a long time to see AHC live. I was very happy to see them. To anybody who's thinkin' of going to the tour, definitly go for it. To anyone who's already going, fasten your seatbelts. This is a great tour.

I'm curious to see if the Euro Ozzfest will differ from the US Ozzfest like it did in years past. I just don't see how is it viable for many of the smaller second stage bands to travel overseas and tour both sides of the Atlantic, much less to Australia if the tour goes there... All I care about in the end is that the second stage gets some new blood and the main stage gets some big names and is represented by the old school for at least one band other than Ozzy/Sabbath.

Iron Maiden has their own tour this summer.
Cradle of Filth, I highly doubt it. They didn't like the way that they, hmmm....kinda like, "If you make money while on the Ozzfest bill, it has to go to Ozzfest. You can't advertise anywhere else but Ozzfest while on Ozzfest." Those kind of rules.
Dimmu Borgir said that they were taking a break for two years, but apparently they are playing festivals in Europe.
And those are a few that you should not expect on Ozzfest.
I don't like Otep.

Madk ru f***in kiding me? Priesty f***in sucked at ozzfest. I was there i mean they didn't suck but they were in no way shape or form Better than The Mighty Black Sabbath. And as for this whole Otep thing I saw otep at Ozzfest 02 and 04 and i gotta say the keep getting better evertime i see them.

25. writes:
f*** otep, i wanna see Dimmu, i heard they were great at ozzfest, the bad thing about ozzfest is the shortage of black metal, its mostly this american hardcore bullsh** like bleeding through, but Dimmu machine head and priest would be worth a ticket alone f*** slipknot and otep....

Otep should be one of the headliners of the second stage, but I think the true headliner should be Machine Head or Killswitch Engage. Not that my opinion matters to the people who put together the tour, but I would like to see a diversified lineup this year. One year was pop-type rock ex:papa roach, linkin park, crzy town. Then all metal-core ex:sworn enemy, They should mix it up.
Good Line-up: Slayer, Machine Head, Sevendust, Otep, Pro-Pain, Dry Kill Logic, Killswitch Engage, God Forbid, Brand New Sin, Soil, Testament, Mnemic, Demon Hunter, and of cours: Black Sabbath!!!

Dont get me wrong I love Sabbath. But on that particular evening Priest owned
Ozzfest hands down with the Mighty Dimmu Borgir! I hate to say it Slipknot kind of lacked
that day and I think they wouldve of been better playing the main stage and Dimmu
should've headline the 2nd stage allowing more playing time for them.

Yes! Somebody else that likes Mnemic!! Im goin to see them in Philadelphia with Soilwork in April. Cant wait. I went to the camden Ozzfest, but goddammit Ozzy had laryngitis! So Halford performed instead of Ozzy. It was amazing, but I came to see Ozzy sing. The Priest set was better than Sabbath's..but seeing the other Black Sabbath members onstage was pretty amazing too/..and Rob Halford coming out on the motorcycle was pretty sweet. There really weren't any bands, in my opinion that were slacking at the Camden show. And seeing Dimmu live is insanity, even though I couldn't see all that leather and satanic wear and whatnot (i got lawn tickets).

I will disown Maiden if they play Ozzfest. sh** Maiden is too good for that sh**ty festival. Ozzfest has become sh**. Thank Sharon for it, the money grubbing b****. That new reality show they had, "Battle for Ozzfest" was a f***ing joke. I mean please, kicking people off because they signed some chicks' boobs? Calling a cop in to interogate these people??? You are talking about someone that once dressed up in his wife's evening gown and a wig and p***ed on the Alamo. f***ing what the hell is wrong with Ozzy? Priest, Dimmu, Lacuna Coil, and maybe Slayer were the only decent bands there last time. I can definately understand Cradle not wanting to ever play it again.

We need bands like Dimmu Borgir,Darkthrone, Devildriver,Satyricon,......More bl;ack metal bands to tour over in AMerica[Devildriver OBVIOULSY Isnt BM] But we need more tours by them,[Oh..Children of Bodom Needs to tour here too !!]
WE NEED BETTER BANDS HERE IN AMERICA/CANADA!!!

f*** YOU NYMPHETIMINE! Otep does NOT suck, nor is she fake. You have the audacity to call Otep fake while your screen -name is the title of a f***ing Cradle of sh** albulm!? WHAT THE f***!? THEY are "fake", not Otep. Cradle of sh** write their little "we're-so-scary" vampire poems and make hip-hop remixes to sell to a bunch of skateboarding mall-"goth"s who shop at Hot Profit that and think Marylin Manson IS actually a Satanist--What the f*** does Otep do to give you the impression that SHE'S a f***ing fake?
Ya know what? I think you're just a big, stupid, misogonistic closet queer who doesn't like Otep's lyrics because they're WAY above your intellectual level. Sadly, though, stupidity will always envy intelligence. Do us a favor by "sacrificing" yourself at some stupid "ritual" with your Idiotic redneck buddies.

yeah, otep is pretty good, but they are not nearly popular enough headline the second stage. KsE or Machine Head are great bands that could headline, but i would really love to see 3 inches of blood play this years ozzfest. they are one of the best metal acts out there now and really deserve to play a tour of this caliber. they are amazing.
45. writes:
hell yeah pariah i strongly agree with you otep does kick a$$ and nymphetamine the u.s. can kick your where ever the hell you are. And ozzy can kick your a$$ with BLS on his side plus all the bands you like he knows them too. Otep difenitly deserves the headline, you p***yes don't get it. if you want better bands f***en call them up your self i'm just happy we get tours as long as there is music inthe U.S.

okay-im a fan of manyt"heavy" "hard" whatever genres, but how can you ever go to ozzfest??Ozzfest is almost as corperate as the Warped Tour,MTV has totally fuxked up everything else,so why not ozzy?which is exactly what its doen now. f***in"battle for ozzfest" and "the osbournes".completely demystified ozzy, showcased Kelly's huge poserism and in the process making a legion of poser fan whores./and jacks annoying sh**.i think the hwo rehab visits between kelly and jack are all scripted and coreogrpahed. Ozzfest pisses on metal no matter whos on it.

i wouldlove if otep headlined second stage ozzfest. i know some people like the f***s in here before probably wouldnt like it but Otep really is one of the best bands out there today. and whoever thinks cradle should go this year is a f***ing idiot because otep is actually a band with talent and is not about money like all the other pathetic bands like manson and cradle...
And it totally is bulls*** some people are so sexist just because she is a girl doesnt mean she cant kick ***

Whatever happened to that Blackest of the Black Tour? I know it was cancelled in the Fall, and was supposed to be rescheduled this year, but I'm sick of waiting. Danzing, Mayhem, DevilDriver, and Superjoint Ritual (I don't like Superjoint, but I think they'd be off the bill due to Phil's "eternal absence" from now on)

otep is a kick a$$ band, but they shouldnt headline the second stage. the band that should headline the second stage is slipknot again. the line up should go like this

throwdown
sworn enemy
fear factory
chimaira
shadows fall
lamb of god
six feet under
cannibal corpse
cradle of filth
