A Fall To Break Checks In From The Road With New Interview
Earlier this month we broke the news about Arizona outfit A Fall To Break hitting the road with Kobra And The Lotus for a string of U.S. shows.
With the trek still going strong (remaining tour date info and upcoming live activity can be found at the A Fall To Break Facebook profile), we also got in touch with the band to find out more about the tour, the progress of work on upcoming material, and the best way to drink ColdCock whiskey!
A Fall To Break is touring in support of latest album "Disaster, Destruction And After" (available at Bandcamp here). Before catching the band's latest live show, be sure to read our new interview with the group below.
xFiruath: A Fall To Break has been pretty quiet on the social media front for the last few months – what has the band been up to lately before news of this new tour hit?
Before we found out we were doing the Kobra And The Lotus tour we were working on new music for a potential future release. Doing demos trying to get song skeletons together. It was awesome to find out we got the tour.
xFiruath: You released new album “Disaster, Destruction, and After” back at the beginning of the year – how has the fan reaction been so far, and have you seen any really interesting reviews (either positive or negative)?
The album has received good reviews so far. I haven't noticed any bad reviews pop up so far. I'm sure they exist, everyone has an opinion. So far though everything has been pretty positive. As far as the fans go they all seem to be receptive to the record. I feel like there is at least a little bit of something for everyone on it.
xFiruath: What will your set list look like for ths tour?
As of now the set list consists of mostly songs from the new album. We are doing one ("Why You Cry") from our 3rd album and occasionally one from our first album ("September Falls"). "Disaster, Destruction And After" is our 4th studio album. We open every set with "Disaster," "Pick Up The Pieces" and "Last Day" then "Coming Down," "Let's Get Wasted" and "Love To Hate You" and "Stand Up" bounces in and out based on set times.
xFiruath: Are there any stops in particular of the Kobra And The Lotus tour you are looking forward to or any cities you haven't been to before on this trek?
Well, I think we are looking forward to each stop. I personally am looking forward to the stop in Gallup, New Mexico. It's been a while since we have been to that area and we always have a blast when we play shows for the Navajo Nation. As for places we haven't been all of the California stops are new markets for us. Everything else we have done in the past.
xFiruath: What's on the horizon for A Fall To Break after the tour? Got any more shows being lined up or plans on new material?
We always have our gears spinning as far as what's next. Honestly it's kind of one of those things where you have to be patient and keep your options open. You never know what is coming or when it is coming. We have heard some rumors for potential tours before the end of the year but nothing is in stone yet. We already have at least 10 demos together for consideration for the next AFTB record. We will likely write about 30 tracks and pick the best to bring in the studio.
xFiruath: What's going on in Arizona's metal/rock scene these days and is there a particular local venue you feel is best for the heavy metal crowd?
I feel like a lot of Arizona bands in the metal/rock scene are making moves. It's good to hear better recordings and seeing better visuals. I've always felt like Arizona had a lot to offer and that it was being slept on, in all genres of music. It's good to see so many bands hitting the road and giving it their all. A lot of positive things have been coming for AZ bands. It's really good to see. As for venues I really like Club Xs in Tucson. I wouldn't say it's really a "metal" bar exclusively but it is a nice venue that holds a lot of heads. It's clean and the owner is a really nice guy. He has called me on Christmas just to wish my family happy holidays and that really goes a long way with me. There are a lot of really cool venues in AZ. I feel like metal and rock have a pretty big impact on any local venue.
xFiruath: Are you guys hooked up with a label right now (or actively seeking one) or going it the DIY route these days?
Our first album was picked up by Funzalo Records. Mike and Dan have been extremely helpful with the furthering of AFTB. Mike Lembo has been around the block many times and had a lot of useful and helpful advice for us and was also a big motivational speaker for us right off the bat. We have been shopping our latest album "Disaster, Destruction And After" right now. There have been some offers but nothing that has stuck as of yet. We have had a lot of external help and some great opportunities thus far. We are thankful for the help we have received. We have put in a lot of DIY time as well. We did a lot of DIY shows across the country. We constantly bounce ideas off of each other and we are always planning our next move.
xFiruath: I see you got connected with Coldcock Whiskey, which has been making the rounds in the metal scene. So give us some recommendations: knock it back straight or mix it with something?
Coldcock is the next Monster or Jäger I think. They have all been real nice to us so far. Our partnership is still new, only like 2 months. We are really looking forward to the future with them. It's a very group oriented company. A lot of bands have done cool things that they wouldn't have got to do without ColdCock. Uproar Fest and Mayhem had slots for ColdCock sponsored artists. I personally do not like mixed drinks, I am more the straight shot with a beer for a chaser type haha. It is an amazing beverage. I'm sure that it will blend with anything nicely. It definitely blends nicely with us.
xFiruath: What albums are you digging most these days and what's coming out soon that's got you excited?
I just got into the Evans Blue album "Graveyard of Empires." I think it was released in 2012 or so and I just found it. We have a very diverse respect for music in the band. Everything from death metal to country. Our guitarist David plays Carlos Santana in a tribute band. I personally am really excited for Sevendust's new album in October. The whole band loves those guys. I still listen to a lot of old stuff like Sepultura, Slayer, Pantera, Metallica, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse etc. That's where my heart lies is in all those 80's and 90's bands. Also stuff like Aerosmith, Def Leppard, GNR, The Scorpions.

I had been looking forward to seeing AFTB for the first time and they truly didn't disappoint. The energy and stage presence was over the top. I went with my gf and she was very impressed with the music they played. We had a couple minutes to hang out with Craig and Jeffy and my gf was amazed how cool they are. I've known those two for a minute and it was nice to catch up. I've listened and seen and worked with alot of bands, the way I look at their future is very brite. Their sound, personalities, professionalism and stage presence make up for one helluva blast on the music scene. Catch them now before u will be paying the big bucks to see them. They are ready for the next level.

Exceptional article and I could not agree with the band's comments more. A Fall To Break is my favorite band, and I just had the privilege of seeing them live, on the current tour with Kobra and the Lotus and Hatchet, in Las Vegas, NV. Simply speaking, A FALL TO BREAK was AWESOME and absolutely KILLED IT!!! Thank you for the opportunity to comment. Sincerely, Jill Smith #AFALLTOBREAK and Metal Insider = Woot! \m/
