Sounds like they're back in form. I kinda wish the opening guitar harmonies were a bit more dissonant to make it sound a bit more unsettling, but other than that minor quibble, I like it lot. Randy nails the vocals.

Definately another solid tune. I kinda like the flow of the barely dissonant throughot the entire song, may have taken away from the continuity if it was any more dissonant? This tune would pair nicely with Walk With Me In Hell live.

Walk with me in Hell ->; 512 ->; Boot Scraper would flow well as a trio in their live set.

(Boot Scraper is probably the reason I'd prefer added dissonance in the intro guitar harmony for this song.)

Yes, it would indeed... If it weren't for that pesky New Mexico and Texas panhandle separating us. Fvcking logistics.

^ To be fair, Deftones didn't even really see each other, after a while, before they did Diamond Eyes. They'd record their parts and just mail them all in, or something of that nature, to be put together into something that resembles a song. Or maybe it was just Chino doin' that, I could be wrong. Either way. Plus, you two are already half way there, what with dis internetzzz communication an it bein' da 21st century and all.
At least I'm not asking you that same thing DJ, I'm over in New York, so you still both have it easier =P lol. Sorry to just interject myself in your good times.
Also on a side note, to actually talk about this LoG song, it's awesome. I liked this much more than the singles on Resolution. Wrath was one of the few LoG albums I really dug.

The instrumental performances conjure "Sacrament" right up to the solo which would have been at home on "Resolution". Structurally the songs (so far) are more hooky and immediate like the bulk of "Wrath", "Ashes", and "Palaces". "Resolution" was a slowly-grows-on-you album. I predict that VII won't be.

I used to worry that Blythe would retire or reduce the higher end of his range but he just keeps getting better at it. He slides more fluidly (and often) from one extreme of his range to the other within individual songs too. It's been a fun evolution to behold.

They've always been good at gradually expanding their sound without putting off the fans (too much). No small feat in metal.

Well put, RM. I've also seen a lot of drummers dumb down their performances over the years and take the 'less is more' approach. I'm glad Chris isn't doing that. (He could also show a certain Danish drummer a thing or two about harnessing snare overtones.)

ZMA, very true. I'd like to get some good recording equip/software and be able to record myself, but I've got other debts to resolve first. :\ Maybe someday before my legs turn to jelly.

C. Adler might is among my favorite drummers in modern metal. Top 10 contention (5 even) for sure.

Conversely, Lars barely qualifies as a drummer, especially these days. He deserves credit for doggedly forcing his way into competency but he never had natural talent. But you're by far a more qualified judge than I. :)

Imagining Metallica's halcyon days with an Adler behind the kit makes me sad. "won't see what might have been" indeed.

Yeah, I would agree with you on Lars. He peaked with AJFA, and looking back he didn't use the double kick as much as I once thought. I still remember his interview with Modern Drummer in '92 where he pretty much trashed AJFA and verbally jerked himself off about purposely playing simple AC/DC beats for the black album. That was the turning point for me. I never had respect for him after that.

Chris is very creative rhythmically and has a gift for coming up with some patterns that sound complex but aren't and vice versa.

I'm glad that none of the LOG guys are resting on their laurels.
