Tobias Sammet from Edguy posted this message to fans online about performing the group's first live show 23 years ago:
"Today 23 years ago, on June 6th, 1992 Edguy played the band's first ever show in Poppenhausen, Hessen, Germany.
"The line up back then was Tobias Sammet (lead vocals, keyboards), Jens Ludwig (guitar and lead vocals), Dirk Sauer (guitar and lead vocals) and Dominink Storch (drums).
"The set list contained 17 songs, 12 cover songs and five self-written songs that would have never been recorded. Among the cover versions were 'Runaway' of Bon Jovi, 'Touch too much' and 'Highway To Hell' of AC/DC, 'Paradise City' of Guns 'n Roses, 'Kickstart My Heart' of Mötley Crüe and 'Rock'n Roll Hell' of Kiss.
"It's really funny, if we take a close look at our roots, there wasn't anything that even remotely reminded me of metal back then. In must have only happened after we discovered the twin pedal for our drummer.
"Today, 23 years later, Edguy is gonna celebrate this anniversary with a best of show at Pilsen Metalfest in the Czech Republic."
