Damageplan Issues Statements

Band Photo: Damageplan (?)
As has been widely reported in the media, Elektra/Atlantic recording group Damageplan suffered a horrible tragedy at their show in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday night (December 8).
Guitarist Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed, as was the band's head of security, Jeffrey "Mayhem" Thompson, an employee of the club, Erin Halk, and a member of the audience, Nathan Bray. Chris Paluska, a member of the band's management team who was serving as tour manager, was shot and is in critical but stable condition. John "Kat" Brooks, the band's drum tech, was also shot and is being released from the hospital today.
The surviving members of Damageplan have issued these statements:
With all his greatness and accomplishments on the guitar, Dime will be missed more for his giving personality, charisma, caring for others, love and most of all his HEART!! Twice as big as the state of TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!! Dime gave it all every day to each and every one of us and our lives have forever been hollowed without him...Thanks to all of you for reaching out to us in this time of our immeasurable loss. REST IN PEACE BROTHER DIME!!!!!!
Jeffrey 'Mayhem' Thompson was not just a true part of the Damageplan family, but part of the whole Dallas music scene. He was friend to all, with a great personality. He bent over backward to help us all with his trademark phrases like 'What can I do for you sir?' and 'Coming up!' He also stated his willingness to protect us, saying 'I'd take a bullet for ya,' and unfortunately did in defense of our lives. He truly lived and died for his friends and made the ultimate sacrifice, giving his life to save ours. For this we will never forget. You will be missed big man.

To Vinnie, Zakk, and the rest of the crew, please accept our deepest condolences. The world has again been deprived of an incredible talent. Maybe you can take solace in the fact that he's in a much better place and in good company. Beyond this I have no words, only tears.

I'm a huge fan of Pantera and Damageplan.
I was brought to tears when I heard what happened. Dime was a very talented man that inspired many including myself.
I want to give my condolences to Vinnie, the rest of the band, his friends and his family. I am truly sorry for your loss. Dime was a good man that'll be missed by many. He is in fact in a better place and his spirit will live on through the music.

Dime, you are the reason i started playing guitar. You dont know who i am, but we had a chat on your most recent tour to New Zealand with Pantera. That for me was an awesome experience meeting you and Vinnie. The entire metal scene will not be the same without you. You will be missed so much. Rest in peace Dime, you're in a better place now.

I know my band never made it huge. In fact, we never made it out of the DFW music scene to any great degree. But I know this, the times we played with Dime's side-band, Gasoline, and the times we gigged with Hellafied Funk Crew (Bob Zilla's former band) are some of my most cherished memories as a band. We have all moved on to other things, but these memories stay with us. We all know that Darrell could play, I still listen to old Pantera CDs and just sit in awe at his amazing talent. What his fans know, and is especially true to those of us that had the priveledge to meet him and spend any time with him at all is, he was the most accessible, open, friendly, good-humored, teaching, giving, and most of all happy guy I ever met. Dime wasn't bogged down in the rock star image or ego-driven selfishness so many successful musicians succumb to. He opened his doors to us, a nobody band from Plano, Texas, and gave us a chance to open for Gasoline. He gave us all something to aspire to. He showed us what humility and grace really mean, especially to fans. The metal world, really the music world, is diminished by his absence. We will miss you, brother, but we will not forget.
