Vinnie Paul May Have Been The Hostage

Band Photo: Damageplan (?)
Listening to a brief piece on the shootings on FOX 5 (TV is always a little behind, but I haven't been online for a few hours...), I heard a few new pieces of information. First was the account of the incident in which a witness claimed that Vinnie Paul, Darrell's brother and Damageplan's drummer, was the hostage taken by Nathan Gale, the gunman. According to the witness, Gale had Vinnie in a headlock and was in the act of aiming the gun at his head when Officer Neggemeyer shot and killed Gale.
The report also mentioned the fact that the slaying happened exactly 24 years to the day after the killing of John Lennon.

According to all the reports that I had researched (it's been a long exhausting day questing for info), it would make sense thst the hostage may have been Vinnie. After the initial attack it was reported by witnesses that Gale ran and half hid behind the stage. Would that not be right where Vinnie would be? Be it true or not, can you imagine what it must have been like for him? Still stunned from witnessing his brother's brutal murder, what could have been going through Vinnie's mind? Christ, I can't even imagine. This has been the most horrible 24 hours in metal history and I have to say that I feel like I've lost an old friend. I've been a loyal fan for 14 years and Dimebag and the rest of Pantera have helped me through some rough times in my life. They reminded me to remember where I came from, and above all inspired me to be true to myself no matter what the cost. We've lost not only a axe-weilding metal god, but a devoted friend and brother. And as for the officer who put his own life on the line to save that hostage, I say he is a hero and should be praised richly for preventing further bloodshed and possibly saving the life of the Thunder behind the Storm.

My requiem for a man.........
I have no Idea what to say. I'm going to keep it short and just wing it. Dimebag darryl will be missed by myself , a long time fan. Others like me are here also and feel the same way. The music that you all gave us will live on. The lyrics that you all sang and played to will go on. You gave me an out when I needed it. Pantera's music was something that I could hold onto when I needed an out. When I was young I was really p***ed off I needed an out like that. All of you guys that gave my that out made my life easier. Thanks for all that you did. And so, I thank you Darryl, Phil, and Vinny. May you all find a your cemetary gates to be good ones no matter what.......
Lukifer *tippin a beer for all of you*

To Vinnie, man.. I am so so sorry that this happened. I have been a big fan of you and Darrell since Cowboys from Hell hit. It makes me so angry that such an awesome talent has been taken away. I cant imagine how you must feel. I am really going to miss Darrell. I have been a guitar player for 20 years and even if I practiced for the next 10 years, I would never be able to do what Darrell could do on the guitar. Talent like that just isn't learned; It is a gift that a very few special people get the priveledge to posess. You could tell he wasn't even really trying hard, he just had the gift. Truly a terrible loss. I will be praying for you Vinnie.

Its a moment of grief and ultimate sadness that we hear of such a psychopathic act. No one would have ever imagined to loose such a celebrated ace guitarist and a musician in such a brutal way.
My condolences to brother Vinnie and all the hardcore Pantera and heavy metal fans. It feels like the loss of a family member..
Pantera was one band which has been motivating me thru music in my dark days ...
Dimebag will never be forgotten..he leaves us his very own self ...his music to us...to be always remembered...for all what he has been to us...
The legend lives on..
God bless his soul

R.I.P. DBD. I shed a tear for you as I write this. You were one of the reasons I took up playing guitar. Please say Hi to Dave Williams (Drowning Pool). I know you guys were great friends and at least now you can party together wherever you may be. You will be missed but never forgotten. I Hope Phil feels like utter sh**e after what he said about you in recent interviews.

I still cant believe he's gone. He was a great guitarist as well as a good man he did not deserve to go like that. I am so sad for Vinnie cant imagine seeing your brother being murdered in such a evil way. I hope Nathan Gale is getting F@ck in the a$$ by the Devil for what he has done. peace be with you Darrel. It still seems so surreal and inconceivable that something like this happened to a great talent, a great person like "Dimebag". As a band manager who has attended countless shows, I can't imagine something unfolding like this at a show, let alone to someone as respected and revered. I've appreciated the music he made for years, and the fellas in my band have all been influenced by his style and presence. Many a drunken night has occurred while either listening to or watching Pantera material. And as hard as it is for a fan like me, I can only imagine how awful it must feel for Vinnie and the rest of his family. I will throw in an old Pantera CD, crank up the volume, pop a cold one and pay my respects properly. I'll also say a prayer for the friends and family he leaves behind, that they find some solace during this chaotic, mournful time.

I can't get my head around what Vinnie must be going through. I mean, f***, to have your brother shot dead in front of you.... I couldn't handle it. My heart goes out to Vinnie and the Damageplan crew.
And to all those people who want to talk sh** about Anselmo, GROW UP! Whatever problems he and the brothers had there is NO WAY he would be involved with something like this.

I can't believe that a great guitarist has been taken away from us. I've been a Pantera fan for nearly 2 years now. If I was there when it happened i would have shot that motherf**king nathan gale. I sincerly hope nathan's spirit rots in hell. He had such an excellent guitar technique, something that no one else could play like that. My heart goes out to vinnie, phil anselmo, rex brown, the surving damageplan members and the rest of his family.
Miss you lots Darrell.
