Led Zeppelin Is Over According To Jimmy Page's Manager

Despite reports contradicting reports earlier this month, Jimmy Page's manager says that Led Zeppelin will not be touring or recording in 2009 and is, in fact, "over."
Peter Mensch, whose company Q Prime also represents Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lostprophets and Muse, had told the BBC's digital station 6Music that:
"John Paul Jones [bass] and Jimmy Page [guitar] enjoy playing with each other, Jason Bonham is a really good drummer so why not? We just need to find a singer."
However, in an interview with Music Radar this on January 7, Mensch said:
"They tried out a few singers [to replace Robert Plant], but no one worked out. That was it. The whole thing is completely over now. There are absolutely no plans for them to continue. Zero."
"Led Zeppelin are over," he added. "If you didn't see them in 2007 [at London's O2 Arena], you missed them. It's done. I can't be any clearer than that. Frankly, I wish everybody would stop talking about it."
January 12 marked the 40th anniversary of the release of Led Zeppelin's eponymous debut album.

There must've been a communication breakdown somewhere along the line. Maybe Plant was just dazed & confused about the reunion scheme. Nah...he was just acting like a fool in the rain. Oh well...this rock & roll band has had some good times and bad times along the stairway to heaven. I've still got a whole lotta love for Zeppelin's music. My little black dog won't be too happy about this.

As a Zeppelin fan, i'll aways respects them for all they've done for music, influences, etc. but i think its time they just moved on. if all original members don't want to take part in the reunion, then its not a reunion. No Plant = No Zeppelin. it wouldn't sound right without him anyway. RIP Led Zepp

This sucks but did anyone really want to see them move on with another singer. It was the best move they could have made. On a side note, I find it humorous that on this site Dragonforce's new album got a better rating than Zep's mothership! An hour long album of over the top annoying shredding with predictable harmonies somehow defeats classic Zep tunes like No Quarter, Dazed and Confused etc. Technically magnificent sure, but is it better than Led Zepplin's remastered greatest hits? Absolutely not!

I totally agree - it is better for the band not to have a reunion. Robert Plant is apparently, a jaka$$, but he is a part of Led Zeppelin. They have achieved tremendous fame, so they will always be remembered as one of the best bands, ever...at least, I feel that way.

i saw no reason that they could not go out and play zep songs under some different name with another singer. just don't call it led zepplin. plant must be an enormous ass. just call it page and jones or somthing. you wouldn't even have to call it anything. just go out and play the damn songs. people want to hear them and if plant is too full of himself to join them the forget him. yeah it won't be the same but who cares. they just won't be able to charge a grand a ticket.

I don't think that it's fair to put this all on Plant. The guy has consistently made music for years. He never really stopped, just took his music in a different direction. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of any of his solo stuff, but imagine being in the middle of your own projects, not to mention in your 60's and being asked,
"Hey man, wanna drop everything, get the band back together and tour?"(Ok, thats oversimplified, but you get my drift)
Considering there hasn't been any backlash from the other members it sounds like this was a pretty friendly discussion even though it never panned out. Sometimes it's just easier to call it quits. They aren't hurting for money, and while yes, this would be great for the fans, it's rough to tour like this for a guy in his 20's much less a bunch of senior citizens who are not used to it anymore. Also considering they were thinking of replacing Plant with another singer and chose not to, sounds like John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page decided it was for the best not to tour. At that point the decision no longer included Robert Plant. Honestly I think it might be better this way.
We are all asking,
"Why are you leaving"
Instead of,
"Why are you still here?"
Now, they will always be rock legends. Not jokes like other bands who need to hang it up. I won't name them at this time, but they start with A and K.

While I will look the other way for bands like The Doors or Queen I think this might be best for Zep. Losing a frontman is one thing. It's only fair the rest of the band be allowed to continue doing what they love. But in this it doesn't seem their hearts were in it. None of the members seemed very vocal or enthusiastic about a reunion. I would hate to hear they put on a lukewarm performance as their last hurrah. Not saying they would, and I'll always be a Zep fan, I just would hate to hear it.

I agree that its best to end it like they did.... but damn, it sure would be nice to see em all onstage together.. The Plant/Page shows were good... but without JPJ it just wasnt the same..
Has anyone else seen footage of the reunion show..? A buddy of mine has it on DVD, I think Plant sounded great and the show was amazing..!!
Whether they had to tune down because of Plants vocal range or not, the man still has the ability to sing is balls off..!
And for those that doubted Jason Bonham's abilities.... the man was able to fill those HUGE shoes that his Dad left for him... besides that, the guy can sing too... and sounds great doing it..!!
Check out the cover of "Battle of Evermore" that Jason sings with his Aunt Deb(John's sister)
it can be found on Youtube...

I'm surprise that they would even think of getting another singer when Robert Plant is still present, that's a real insult to even do an album without him. The Iconic band LED ZEPPELIN have a very unique Signature sound which is vocalist PLANT's soulful rich voice: so I can not see him being replace as with the same situration w/the other legendary members/Jimmy Page etc.,. as well can't be replaced. Maybe consider just doing a side music project naming it somthing else 'cause the name LED ZEPPELIN is already set in Gold Stone and shouldn't be tampered with.

As a big Zepplin fan... i'll always have the up-most respect for them. However, I just can't see them without Robert. It just wouldn't be the same. I'm also surprised that they would even consider getting a new singer... considering the fact that Robert Plant is still alive.
