Rob Zombie
Formed: 1985
From:
New York,
NY,
United States
Last Known Status: Active
Background
Since 1985 Zombie has been carving out a strange legacy of music in the world of rock, beginning in with the formation of his brainchild White Zombie. From the start, White Zombie was a bizarre hybrid of hardcore/punk aggression, Lower East Side art-damage and hard rock thunder. As if that weren’t enough, these fixations were filtered through Mr. Zombie’s love of classic horror/sci-fi films, trash hot rod culture and generally, all things on the dark side.
White Zombie was most noted for their release 'Astro Creep 2000'. The album reached #10 on billboard and stayed for two months. After this record, we started to see a little different style from Zombie. What might best be called Techno-Horror Rock. Since then Zombie has gone solo, simply renaming the band 'Rob Zombie'.
Rob Zombie is a man of many faces. He has done work on the Beavis and Butthead movie, directed all videos since going solo, wrote a script for 'The Crow 3' (which got scrapped), and is currently in the works of creating and directing his first feature film entitled 'House Of 1000 Corpses'. In short, Rob Zombie is an entertaiment genius.

Rob Zombie To Do New Single On Late Show
Rob Zombie will be performing his latest single "American Witch" on "The Late, Late Show With Craig Ferguson" this coming Friday, August 11th.
Rob Zombie Writing Songs For 'El Superbeasto'
ROB ZOMBIE has told AOL Music that fans won't have to wait for his next studio album to hear new music. "Our in-between record will be the soundtrack for the animated movie I'm doing, 'The Haunted World of El Superbeasto'," he said. "That'll be in theaters in 2007, and we're writing songs for that right now."
Zombie, who produced and wrote the movie, said he hopes to take "El Superbeasto" from comic book to animated film to live action: "I want to eventually turn it into a live-action feature," he said. "But in order to be live action it'd be a big budget, so I wanted to make it animated first." The movie is set to be directed by 'SpongeBob SquarePants' writer and contributing voice Doug "Mr." Lawrence, who, like Zombie, knows a little something about animation.

Devil's Rejects Gets 5 Nominations With Spike TV
Rob Zombie's second feature film, "The Devil's Rejects" has received nominations in five categories ("The Ultimate Scream", "Best Horror Movie", "Most Vile Villain", "Best Director" and "Best Screamplay") at the upcoming Spike TV's Scream Awards 2006, the first annual televised event which celebrates horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comic books.
Spike TV's Scream Awards 2006 will tape at the historic Pantages Theater in Hollywood, CA on Saturday, October 7 and feature a wide-range of award categories. Show host, celebrities and musical acts to be announced shortly. The program will air on Tuesday, October 10 between 10:00 p.m. and midnight EST.
"We only need to look at the legacy and recent explosion of the horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comic book genres to know that the time has come to honor the extraordinary creative talent from these worlds in an explosive way," says Casey Patterson, Executive Producer and Senior Vice President Event Production for Spike TV.
Zombie has made a name for himself challenging audiences by stretching the boundaries of film, music and publishing. He recently took film to a new level with his critically acclaimed "House of 1000 Corpses" and its high-octane follow-up "The Devil's Rejects", and he is now working on his next film project, the animated horror film "The Haunted World of Superbeasto" starring Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti, slated for release later this year. Zombie also recently announced that he will direct a new version of the classic 1978 horror film, "Halloween", with an October 2007 release planned.
As the longest active artist on Geffen Records and the most prolific Geffen artist when it comes to gold and platinum discs, Zombie has sold in excess of fifteen million records worldwide. This past March, his new album "Educated Horses" entered The Billboard 200 chart at No. 5. Zombie is also a seasoned video director, with more than 25 videos to his credit. In 1995, he won an MTV Music Video Award for "More Human Than Human", becoming the first self-directed artist to win such an award.
Godsmack Plan Fall US Tour w/ Rob Zombie
Godsmack will finally head out on tour in support of their month-old "IV" in the fall for a 25-date U.S. trek that's set to launch August 25 in Dallas with support by Rob Zombie. The tour's finale is set for October 1 in Concord, California. Tickets for the entire tour go on sale Saturday through Ticketmaster.
"Debuting at #1 was a testament to our fanbase," Drummer Shannon Larkin said. "They ran out and bought the album the first week and made us #1, which, you know, we will give back to them this fall when we come back on tour. We'll give back to crowd for going out and buying our record and making us #1. We're bringing the biggest show we've ever brought to America, and we're going to be bringing Rob Zombie out with us. So, it's going to be an amazing thing. Hopefully, we can return the love to our rabid fanbase, and so we have to bring a great show to these people."
In a statement, Erna said that the band's "fans should expect the biggest Godsmack spectacle yet. This tour will be a virtual, visual, and aural circus. Expect the unexpected when we hit your town." According to a press release, Zombie will be setting the stage during each stop on the tour, turning the venue "into a funhouse of mystery and madness as creatures walk the stage of pyrotechnics, smoke, and mirrors. This is a no-holds barred show so hold on for the ride."
Larkin said Godsmack will spend much of this summer concocting a worthy set list, one that'll satisfy the fans who've been with them since the beginning as well as those who've just discovered the band.
"With the band having — what, 13 top 10 rock hits? — we want to play all the hits, of course, but you don't want it to be just all radio songs," Larkin said. "You want to put some deep cuts on there, and you want to get some songs from the new record that we're so attached to and love so much, because it's fresh and new to us" — like the first single, "Speak," and the forthcoming second single, "Shine Down." "It's hard to cram all this stuff into one set, so we're being very meticulous about picking our set list," Larkin explained. "We don't want to be that band that plays too long either, and we're thinking of maybe having multiple set lists. There are a good 10 songs we have to play every night — "Voodoo," the staples of the set."
The drummer said that Godsmack jumped at the chance to tour this fall with Zombie: "As soon as it was Rob Zombie, we were sold, because he's not only an icon in rock but I'm such a huge fan of horror movies, and his films are just amazing."
Here are the Godsmack and Rob Zombie tour dates, according to Godsmack's publicist: More...
Rob Zombie Resurrecting "Halloween"
Billboard.com reports: Rocker-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie is resurrecting Michael Myers, one of the big screen's favorite horror villains. Zombie will write and direct a new "Halloween" movie, serving up what is being called as a brand new vision for the long-running horror series. He will also serve as a producer and a music supervisor on the film.
An October 2007 release is being planned. Disney's Miramax Films will co-finance the development with former Miramax chiefs Bob and Harvey Weinstein's Dimension Films.
The movie will not be a sequel or a straight-ahead remake of the 1978 original -- which helped director John Carpenter cement his name in the horror business -- but a reimagining that will infuse new blood into the Myers story.
"The look and the feel is going to be completely different," Zombie says. "'Halloween' started off as a very terrifying concept, a terrifying movie. But over the years, Michael Myers has become a friendly Halloween mask. When it came to the point where you could buy a Michael Myers doll that was cute-looking and press its stomach and play the 'Halloween' theme, you knew the scare factor was gone.
"But I think the story and the situation is scary," he continues. "All it needed was someone to come in and to take a totally different approach to make it scary again. To me, that's the challenge and that's the fun."
Zombie is a fan of the original and said he sought Carpenter's blessing. "He said, 'That's awesome, go for it,"' Zombie said. "He was very supportive, which I thought was very important. I feel like 'Halloween' is his baby, and I wanted to be very respectful."

Rob Zombie Performs w/ New Bassist On "Letterman"
A video clip of ROB ZOMBIE's live performance of the track "American Witch" on CBS' "Late Night Show with David Letterman" — which was taped Wednesday afternoon (May 24) for broadcast later that night — has been posted online at YouTube.com. The appearance marked ZOMBIE's live debut with new bassist Matt Montgomery (a.k.a. Piggy D.; ex-AMEN/WEDNESDAY 13), who joined the group as the replacement for the recently departed Rob "Blasko" Nicholson (also ex-CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER). Rob Nicholson left Zombie earlier in the month in order to join OZZY OSBOURNE's recording/touring band.
Zombie will be teaming up with ANTHRAX for the "American Witch Across America" tour beginning on June 30 in El Paso, Texas. Rob is also expected to be joining GODSMACK on tour as a co-headliner this fall.
"Educated Horses", Zombie's third solo album, has sold 270,000 copies in the U.S. since being released on March 28.
"The Haunted World of Superbeasto", an animated film based on Zombie's El Superbeasto comic book character, will be out later this year. The rocker-turned-filmmaker is also working on the script for his third live-action feature.
Blasko To Leave Rob Zombie To Join Ozzy
Bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson has now confirmed that he has left ROB ZOMBIE in order to join OZZY OSBOURNE's new recording/touring band. Speaking to Debby Rao of KNAC.COM, Blasko said, "It is kind of all talk; it is kind of all up in the air. But potentially I will be doing Ozzfest this summer. The whole rumor thing is kind of funny, in a sense that actually ya know I auditioned with Ozzy in the summer of 2003. I got the gig then. It is just that, what I was auditioning for got cancelled because he got in that accident. So of course that got cancelled. The following two (years) had been BLACK SABBATH headlining. Ozzy hasn't done anything solo till this past Thanksgiving. We went to London for the NFL kickoff, where we performed 'Crazy Train'. We did a couple of things over in London, a variety performance and we did Ozzy's induction to the U.K. Hall of Fame. I have performed with Ozzy on all the solo performances that he has done since I got the gig in 2003. Me playing for Ozzy is not really this new thing. It just so happens that this is the first time the two band gigs will cross paths (on tour). I have been juggling both and I had to make a decision. I just chose to go out on Ozzfest again. It will be my fourth time. That is always a really good time. There is nothing negative or any drama. It is just how things worked out."

Bullet For My Valentine Kicked Off Zombie Tour
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE were removed from the ROB ZOMBIE tour with LACUNA COIL after the band's guitarist/vocalist Matthew "Matt" Tuck slammed ROB ZOMBIE in an online post. Tuck claimed that his band was "not being treated well" on the ZOMBIE tour and calling the headliners "money-grabbing fucks" for allegedly seling their t-shirts for $40 a piece and making the support bands do the same. "As I write this, I'm sitting on the fuckin' floor of the venue 'coz we don't have a dressing room again, 'coz fuckin' Zombie takes them all for him, his band and crew," Tuck wrote at the time. "Basically, we are shit to him, but fuck it — if this is what it takes to get a name over here, then it's gotta be done. I'm not one to fuck around with words, so yes, we are not being treated well on this tour. Oh yeah, we don't get a soundcheck either. Fuckin' pissed at this tour, man."
A few hours after making his original post, Tuck returned to BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE's official message board to apologize to Rob and Zombie's crew for his earlier remarks, explaining, "I was really out of it this morning and let shit on the road fuck with my hung-over head. I'm truly sorry if any of my comments about this tour were out of line and totally exaggerated. This is our first real tour in the States and with lots of personal shit happening to me from home I just lost it. We really have been totally fuckin' thrilled to have the chance to play on this tour and are grateful for every new fan we make. It means everything to us to be able to play our shit for new fans. I'm really sorry to have offended anyone and look forward to putting this behind and getting back to the metal." More...
Rob Zombie Discusses Screen Projects
Rob Zombie told Launch Radio Networks that he's recently been approached to direct an episode for the second season of the Showtime series "Masters Of Horror", but that his touring commitments are getting in the way. "The timing couldn't get worse, you know," he said. "Now with touring, all the filming schedules keep coinciding with the touring schedules, so I don't know. I mean, I'm trying to fit it in, it's just really difficult. You can't exactly, like, break down for 30 days in the middle of your tour to go shoot a TV show."
Rob Zombie will launch another U.S. tour later this spring, billed as "American Witch Across America", with ANTHRAX along as support. Exact dates and cities for the trek will be announced soon. Zombie completed a North American run on Friday (May 5) in Grand Prairie, Texas, his first in support of his recently released "Educated Horses" album.
Zombie has one other announced date so far, in Las Vegas on May 26.
Zombie is also rumored to be joining GODSMACK on tour as a co-headliner this fall.
"Educated Horses", Zombie's third solo album, has sold 231,000 copies in the U.S. since being released on March 28.
"The Haunted World of Superbeasto", an animated film based on Zombie's El Superbeasto comic book character, will be out later this year. The rocker-turned-filmmaker is also working on the script for his third live-action feature.
Anthrax To Support Rob Zombie On Tour
According to Rob Zombie's Web site, Anthrax will serve as the openers for the upcoming American Witch Across America Tour, which will kick off sometime this spring. An announcement revealing the dates and cities for the run are expected this month.
John 5 Leaves Loser To Focus On Rob Zombie
Island Records made the decision to drop the band LOSER when founding member John 5 (ex-MARILYN MANSON) opted to leave the group and maintain his position as the guitarist for ROB ZOMBIE. "Being the founding member of LOSER, my decision to leave was not an easy one," said John 5 in a press release. "I've been juggling two careers both with LOSER and ROB ZOMBIE for over one year now. I found it impossible to be in two places at once."
With the success of ROB ZOMBIE's "Educated Horses" 2006 tour and the new dates added to the trek, it became impossible for John 5 to promote LOSER properly. In discussions with Island, John 5 suggested bringing in a replacement guitarist for LOSER's live shows. Island Records was in opposition to the suggestion as that is not "what they had signed on for." Consequently, Island Records chose to drop the act. "I understand the decision from the label but feel it could have worked out for everyone involved," John 5 said. "I wish Joe, Glen and Charles all the success they deserve. They are amazing guys and deserve their shot."
There is currently no word on when — or if — LOSER's already completed debut album will be released.
Lacuna Coil Debuts At #28 On Billboard Chart
The highly acclaimed new LACUNA COIL album, Karmacode, had a phenomenal first week at retail moving an impressive 34,000 units via Nielsen SoundScan, securing the #28 spot on the Billboard Top 200 charts. It also debuted at #5 on the Hard Music chart just behind such acclaimed artists as Nickleback and Rob Zombie. Critics have hailed the much-anticipated release as the group’s most cohesive and all encompassing offering yet, led by the strength of its hit single “Our Truth,” which is currently a Top 40 single on the U.S. Active Rock charts.
LACUNA COIL are currently in the midst of a massive six-week, sold-out U.S. tour as direct support to Rob Zombie, which is also the group’s first Stateside run in support of their highly acclaimed new album. This will lead them into a main stage slot at this year’s Ozzfest, becoming one of the few bands in the tour’s illustrious decade-long history to make the leap from second stage to the main stage.
John5 Updates On Loser Project
MTV.com reports: "Since joining Marilyn Manson in 1999, John 5 has been one of the pioneering spirits of modern metal guitar. He recently co-wrote and played on songs for Rob Zombie's new album, Educated Horses, and he's currently on the road with Zombie. But there's another, less caustic side to the tattooed, white-haired guitarist, and he's letting that side shine through with his new band, Loser."
"If Marilyn Manson are a carnal congregation of all things dark and depraved, Loser are more a celebration of the young and unjaded. The band's debut album, Just Like You (June 6), interweaves John's pointed riffs with triumphant radio rock and infectious power pop. Some Manson and Zombie fans will surely be thrown by the psychedelic-tinged rock of "Disposable Sunshine," the Cheap Trick-style power pop of "Without You (Inside Out)" and the jangly balladry of the first single, "Nobody Knows." But John 5 — who has worked with k.d. lang, Avril Lavigne and Fefe Dobson — is happy to explore the poppier elements of his new band."
"I like to play metal, but sometimes it's like doing the same thing over and over," he explained. "It's good to have a little bit more variety, like eating different foods. And even if they're surprised, I hope people will like the band and recognize that hey, it's not metal, but these are really good songs."
John 5 started working on Loser in 2004, soon after he left Manson. He hooked up with producer/songwriter Bob Marlette — with whom he worked on Two's Voyeurs, his collaboration with Rob Halford, in 1997 — and quickly penned a batch of new tunes. Then he began looking for bandmates. Marlette found ex-Jibe singer Joe Grah during a trip to Texas to check out a band that had been recommended to him. "As it turned out, they weren't that great and the singer wasn't that great, but Joe was in the band that played after them, and he was incredible," John said.
Grah was flown to Los Angeles to audition and was hired on the spot. To celebrate, the guitarist and his new singer went to see A Perfect Circle in concert. There, they ran into their future bassist, Charles Lee. "He knew of me and said, 'Hey, I play bass and I sing,' so we auditioned him and he was great," recalled John. "We were like, 'Man, this is way too easy.' "
Finding a drummer proved to be a little harder. After going through a handful of players, Grah recommended someone he knew back in Texas, Glendon Crane, who instantly clicked with the rest of the musicians.
They named themselves Loser as both an affirmation of John 5's past and as a gesture to anyone who's ever felt awkward or left out. "I was from Grosse Pointe, Michigan, which is kind of an upper-class area, and I was always that rock kid," John explained. "I started playing guitar at age 7. I always had a rock shirt on, and I had that tattoo early on. I looked like a loser because everyone around me was wearing Polo and Brooks Brothers. But now if you go into a club wearing Polo, you're called a loser. So I think everyone can relate to that name, and the album title, Just Like You, sums it up."

"A Headbanger's Journey" To Receive DVD Release
Heavy Metal has long been a stigmatized musical genre characterized by aggressive rhythms, dark lyrics and satanic worship. "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" is a ground-breaking film that explores the history of how these stereotypes came to be and explains the motivation and truth behind the music through candid interviews with metal icons, including Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, Dee Snider, Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Bruce Dickison, Lemmy Kilmister, and many more.
"Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" two-disc set will be released by Warner Home Video on May 23, 2006 for $24.98 just in time for metal's most popular music festivals such as Ozzfest, Gigantour and Sounds Of Underground kick off. Order due date is April 18, 2006.
Sam Dunn, a thirty-year-old anthropologist, has been fascinated by the culture of heavy metal since he was twelve years old. In an effort to study its origin and cultural impact, he sets out on a global journey to find out why this music has been consistently stereotyped, dismissed and condemned and yet is loved so passionately by its millions of fans. Along the way, Sam explores metal's obsession with some of life's most provocative subjects - sexuality, religion, violence and death - and discovers some things about the culture that even he can't defend. Shot on location in the U.K., Germany, Norway, Canada and the U.S., this documentary is the first of its kind. It is both a defense of a long-misunderstood art form and a window for the outsider into the spectacle that is heavy metal.
"Heavy metal music has an enormous worldwide following that many people are unaware of because it has been overshadowed by images of violence and mosh pits," said Tehya Kopp, WHV Senior Director, Special Interest Marketing. "This documentary digs into the stereotypes and misconceptions about the artists' motivations behind the lyrics and harsh sound and explores the real side of metal in a way that appeals to metal and non-metal fans alike. It's an eye-opening documentary that is both informative and enjoyable to all audiences."
"Metal: A Headbanger's History" contains over 87 minutes of special features including:
* 16 extended interviews with metal rock icons!
* 20-minute mini-documentary on Norwegian black metal
* Footage with Lemmy from MOTORHEAD at the Rainbow
* Director's commentary.
* Travel outtakes
* An awesome interactive metal history family tree, created specifically for the DVD.

Rob Zombie Says New Single Not Influenced By Label
ROB ZOMBIE has lashed out the people who have suggested that his new single, "Foxy Foxy" is an attempt at a more commercialized sound in order to appease his record company.
Said Zombie: "Let me set the record straight. Most things don't bother me, but this does. In response to people inplying that 'the record label made me write 'Foxy Foxy' in order to to sell more records or whatever.' That is total bullshit. The record label never has and never will make me do anything. If you hate the song, fine, but I am the one responsible for you hating it. Not the label. So blame me.
"It's funny how nothing ever changes. I remember the first tour for 'La Sexorcisto', fans were screaming 'You suck!' ''Thunder Kiss '65' is gay!' 'You sold out!' Then guess what — the same thing happened on the next record... ''More Human Than Human' is gay!' 'You guys suck now!'
"Whatever.
"I do what I do, same as I always have. If you don't like it, well, then don't listen to it.
"What can I tell ya?"
ROB ZOMBIE will perform "Foxy Foxy" on NBC-TV's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on Wednesday, March 15. The track comes off the singer's new album, "Educated Horses", which is scheduled for release on March 28 via Geffen Records. The follow-up to 2001's "The Sinister Urge" was recorded at Los Angeles' Chop Shop Studios with co-producer Scott Humphrey, who had previously worked with Rob on the platinum hits "Hellbilly Deluxe" and "The Sinister Urge". Other musicians contributing to the CD include Josh Freese (A PERFECT CIRCLE, VANDALS) and Tommy Lee (MÖTLEY CRÜE).
Zombie is now gearing up for the "Educated Horses Tour". The tour is scheduled to start March 17 in Jacksonville, Florida and hit 27 cities before concluding five weeks later in Mesa, Arizona. Joining Rob on this tour will be guitarist John 5 (ex-MARILYN MANSON), longtime bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson and drummer Tommy Clufetos (ex-ALICE COOPER, TED NUGENT). Support acts on the tour will be LACUNA COIL and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE.
The singer took five years off between studio albums while he wrote and directed his first two movies, the 2003 horror hit "House of 1000 Corpses" and its sequel, 2005's "The Devil's Rejects".
