In recent news, Deceased announced work on a new album for Hells Headbangers, entitled "Ghostly White." King Fowley had the following to say about the forthcoming album:

"This record will be a very produced musical journey that will capture the complete morbid side of Deceased. If we do what we are setting out to do, it will ooze of dark melody without forgetting the rough aggressive edges and catchiness in the songwriting that we've kept in our sound since day one. There will be a complete haunting aura throughout the record! A few songs will be lengthy tracks, including a 15-minute ride. Fitting interludes will lock in the actual tracks, and little jolts of madness will also rear their ugly heads from time to time. This is a musical adventure we've been waiting to take, and now's the time. Get out your woolen overcoats, the funeral is about to begin...." More...

Gravehill Issues Cancellation Statement

California death horde Gravehill has issued the following statement regarding the cancellation of their planned performance at this year's Goregrowler's Ball:

"We were saddened and pissed off, to say the least, to hear from Goregrowler's Entertainment about their decision to not bring us out for the Fest in San Antonio on the days of November 18th-20th. It is unfortunate and we just wanted to let all of our friends and fans down there that we had no control over this situation and are disappointed beyond belief.

"I will not get into every aspect of what went down and what was said and agreed upon. I also won't sit here and bash anyone at the Goregrowlers camp and get into any of that type of crap. What I will do is be honest and give you a 'long story short'. Gravehill was one of the first bands asked to be a part of this years fest. I was also instrumental in helping them book a few of the bands that are playing. More...

Maryland Death Fest IX Day Four

Fatigue had definitely begun to set in by Day Four. Through the beer belly, muscle ache (everyone’s hotel was up the hill), blown-out senses, and heat I thought could only happen in the south, I persevered though badly worn. The venue was getting pretty rough also. Everyone was tired, but still partying hard. Inside it was sticky and stinky like it had not been before. But that didn’t stop anyone from enjoying the rest of the great lineup on the last day of the mighty MDF.

Bright and early in the afternoon (although it seemed like night in the main room), hometown boys Visceral Disgorge began the festivities. They brought to mind the early works of death metal. Trauma and gore galore, this band encompassed the snarl inhaled low growls, din-destroying high tuned snare, gallop picking guitar done by Eric.

Bad acid Trip’s singer Dirk Rogers opening question to us was, “Is everyone drunk?,” and by just the sight of the crowd through the hours it was obvious that we all were. Crazed rock riffage and grindcore led this band to a energetic frenzy. Dirk was like Ian Curtis and Johnny Rotten; a twisted love child onstage. This band had true dynamic ranging from guttural blasts to hardcore breakdowns to strange, psychotic circus dementia. More...

Maryland Deathfest To Go On At Sonar As Planned

The Maryland Deathfest organizers report that "Sonar will be re-opening before MDF, and technically they already have."

As previously reported, the venue of the Maryland Deathfest was up in the air when Baltimore's Sonar nightclub failed to renew their liquor license and closed its doors.

The organizers futher commented: "These last couple of days have been incredibly confusing and stressful, but we are currently back to the regularly scheduled program. And don't worry, beyond plan B is a plan C, because that's how we roll. See you in a couple of weeks."

As such, the set times that were previously announced should now hold.

Pit Stories: More Blood!

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. With all of the stories of mosh pit brutality of late, you might expect more of the same from the title, but in fact, this story from California death metal band Gravehill is not what it would appear:

This one goes back to October 31st in Dekalb, Illinois. Gravehill had flown out to Illinois to do 3 shows with our brothers in Cardiac Arrest. We had arrived late late late the night/morning before this Halloween show in Dekalb. Once the sun went down and the pabst blue ribbon started disappearing at an alarming rate, we left Aurora (where we were staying) and started our short treck over to Dekalb. When we got there, we were informed that the gig was at a rehearsal space that some local bands practiced at. "No biggie," we thought. Sometimes, those types of shows totally go off and go crazy. But once the night wore on, we became a little bummed. The first bands started playing and people were barely showing up. It was dead and the bands we really not very good. There was a mix of indie rock, bad metal and even some sort of techno/hip hop type dj guy. So we just preceeded to get drunk and make the best of it as we always do.

"Campaign For Death Metal Purity" Tour Announced

Cardiac Arrest, Gravehill, and Hod will be touring together as the "Campaign For Death Metal Purity" 2010 tour. Ibex Moon Records issued the following statement about the tour:

"Death Metal has grown weak and soft… with the infiltration of hard-core breakdowns; gravity blasts, emo singing, and MTV saturated 'fashion agenda'…what a sad affair when Death Metal becomes another genre of pop music!" Ibex Moon Records would like to invite the True Death Metal Elite to a series of select dates across the United States of America! A Tour designed for the sole purpose of taking Death Metal back to its roots, a time when metal wasn’t a fashion statement and Death Metal came from some place much more sinister and far more deadly!"

John McEntee, Ibex Moon Records label mastermind and guitarist/vocalist for Incantation, had this to say about the tour: “With all the trends in metal these days and all these fest type tours that mostly only highlight the flavor of the month bands. We wanted to put together a tour with 3 strong Death Metal bands that all in their own right have proven themselves to be true warriors of death! Each band has forged their own legacy by being 100% true to themselves and it shows with their intense live performances. This is the time to take back our underground scene and show your support to some of Death Metal’s top extreme bands. Death Metal is Eternal Under the Ibex Moon." More...

Gravehill Issues Tour and Studio Report

California brutalists Gravehill recently took a break from working on their Ibex Moon Records debut to head down south to Texas for a string of shows with label mates, Hod. Safely home from the carnage and mayhem that ensued, vocalist Mike Abominator offered this summary of the mini-tour:

"The Texas shows couldn't have been better. Hod kicked total ass and made us stay on top of our game! One of the best live bands we have seen and some of the best guys around in metal....PERIOD! It was an honor sharing the stage with them and playing our death metal for all those Texas maniacs! We met so many killer and diehard people in Texas. And I have fond memories of all three shows, but the San Antonio show was unforgettable due to the response of the crowd, the fights, equipment falling and going out, beer and blood flying, the fights, the mayhem, THE FIGHTS, ARGHHHHHH! What a show! Thank you to John/Ibex Moon and Beer Reebs/Hod for setting it all up! TEXAS! WE WILL BE BACK!"

Gravehill will also be among the many Ibex Moon acts contributing a song to the soundtrack to the upcoming indie horror flick, "Afterparty Massacre." While said track might not be what Gravehill fans might expect from the band, Abominator guarantees brutality.

"We entered TRENCH STUDIOS for a weekend to do the exclusive track for the Afterparty Massacre movie soundtrack which Ibex Moon is putting out. We recorded the AC/DC song "If You Want Blood (You Got It)" for the release. It was Gravehill-ized so to speak, ha ha, but it came out GREAT. We even brought in our friends Shane from Phobia and Nick from Crepitus to scream and growl along with me on the infamous chorus! In the end, the song title, attitude of AC/DC and Bon Scott and even the overall performance of the song fit Gravehill PERFECTLY! Since we are the AC/DC of death metal! hahahaha."

In regards to the forthcoming album, the front man issued this update from the band's own Hellheim Studios:

"Now we enter our studio/dungeon HELLHEIM STUDIOS to get the songs set for Pravus Tyrannis our 2nd album, and debut for Ibex Moon. Once we get the songs set, we will then enter TRENCH STUDIOS with Engineer John Haddad (who has worked with Phobia, Hirax, Abysmal Dawn, Final Conflict, Deathevokation) to record the eight songs of devastating and relentless death metal that this album will unleash upon the earth!"
