Queensryche, Poison, Lacuna Coil Chart In Top 30
QUEENSRŸCHE's "Operation: Mindcrime II" has sold 44,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at No. 14 on next week's The Billboard 200 chart. This is more than half of the total sales tally registered by the band's last studio album, 2003's "Tribe", which sold 20,000 copies in the first week and has shifted less than 75,000 units so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Meanwhile, the band's 1999 effort, "Q2K", opened with sales of 28,000 and has sold 150,000 copies to date.
QUEENSRŸCHE's top-selling album by far is 1990's "Empire", which was certified triple-platinum in October 1994 for sales in excess of three million copies in the United States. The original "Operation: Mindcrime" release (1988) attained platinum status in August 1991, while 1994's "Promised Land" reached the same plateau in December 1994.
In other chart news, LACUNA COIL's "Karmacode" shifted just under 34,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at No. 28 on next week's The Billboard 200 chart. The band's 2002 album "Comalies" has sold more than 230,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. A representative for the group's record label, Century Media, recently told Billboard magazine that the album has sold 500,000 units worldwide.
LACUNA COIL will be on the cover of at least a half-dozen metal magazines this spring. In addition, an April appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and a segment of "The Mix" on ABC News are slated, according to Billboard.
Another notable debut on this week's chart is POISON's 18-track collection, "The Best of Poison: 20 Years of Rock", which commemorates POISON's 20th anniversary and the band's career tally of more than 25 million albums and DVDs sold around the world. The album, which packs the group's biggest hits and fan favorites, opens with nearly 40,000 copies to debut at No. 17 on next week's chart.
POISON's "Greatest Hits 1986-1996" collection, which was originally released in November 1996, was officially certified double-platinum in November 2005 by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for shipments in excess of two million copies in the United States.
The following are notable heavy metal/hard rock U.S. sales debuts for the week ending April 9, 2006, as reported by Nielsen SoundScan (all figures are rounded to the nearest thousand, except numbers under 2,000, which are rounded to the nearest hundred; The Billboard 200 chart position included, where applicable):
QUEENSRŸCHE – "Operation: Mindcrime II": 44,000 (#14)
POISON – "The Best of Poison: 20 Years of Rock": 40,000 (#17)
LACUNA COIL – "Karmacode": 34,000 (#28)

New Himsa and The Acacia Strain eCard
A new eCard is online to spread the word about Prosthetic Records label-mates Himsa and The Acacia Strain hitting the road for Darkest Hour's "Undoing Ruin 2006 Tour" alongside A Life Once Lost and Dead To Fall. Spanning 38 dates across the United States, the tour will begin February 17.
Himsa will embark on several headlining shows along the way to support the Feb. 7 release of Hail Horror before meeting up with the "Undoing Ruin" lineup in Latham, NY to kick the tour off. Hail Horror, the follow up to the critically-acclaimed Courting Tragedy And Disaster, has already been labeled as one of 2006's most anticipated releases by Decibel magazine, and sees the band heading in a thrashier direction while maintaining a commitment to tirelessly touring behind this album, maintaining their reputation as seasoned road warriors. The band will later head back to Europe to follow up its successful run of the continent with 3 Inches of Blood in December 2005.
Massachusetts' The Acacia Strain will be a part of the tour fresh out of recording tracks with veteran producer Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) for the upcoming album The Dead Walk. A release date for the record has not been determined, but The Acacia Strain will nonetheless head out on the road with a handful of new live-worthy tracks, hand in hand with the same win-them-one-by-one mentality the band has built its base upon.

The Acacia Strain Touring Update
Springfield, Massachusetts' THE ACACIA STRAIN are set to play a one-off show supporting Shadows Fall on Friday, Dec. 30. Meanwhile, The Acacia Strain finished recording the tracks that will become The Dead Walk with producer Adam Dutkiewicz earlier in December. The album will be released through Prosthetic Records in late March, and will be the follow-up to 3750, the band's Prosthetic debut.
Come February, the band will hit the road with Darkest Hour, Himsa, A Life Once Lost, and Dead To Fall for a string of US dates through March.

Himsa and The Acacia Strain Plan US Tour In 2006
HIMSA and THE ACACIA STRAIN will be teaming out to tear through the United States this February and March. The Prosthetic label-mates will help round out the melting pot of sounds along a string of North American dates that also features Dead To Fall, A Life Once Lost, and headliners Darkest Hour. Running the gamut from hardcore-infused metal to melodic death metal and back, Seattle’s HIMSA will offer direct support on the bill, while THE ACACIA STRAIN will supply crowds with the chest-crushing heaviness they have all but trademarked.
HIMSA will be on the road supporting their latest melodic-thrash tour de force, Hail Horror, which will see a Feb. 7 release through Prosthetic. No strangers to the road, HIMSA was most recently a part of Danzig’s Blackest of the Black 2005 tour, and is currently gearing up for a December run through Europe alongside 3 Inches of Blood, showcasing tunes from the band’s new album.
Meanwhile, Massachusetts’ THE ACACIA STRAIN will be touring in support of Victims, the band’s new full-length, set for a March 2006 release. The band has been playing regional gigs throughout New England in recent weeks, in preparation to entering the studio Dec. 1 to record new songs with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage, All That Remains), who was previously responsible for the bludgeoning sound of 3750, the band’s last record.

Dead To Fall To Begin Recording New Album
Dead To Fall are heading to Trax East to begin recording the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2004 album "Villainy and Virtue" with producer Eric Rachel. Rachel rejoins the band for round two – their previous collaboration was described in Revolver as, "Full of slab-like guitars and raging vocal growls, this brutish metalcore album will reach out of your speakers, beat you down, and steal your wallet." The great Paul Romano (Mastodon, Godflesh) returns to artwork for the cover – his images for "Villainy and Virtue" were some of the most striking to appear that year, and the band is eager to work with him again. The tentative title for the album is "Death and Rebirth" and singer Jon Hunt has said that it has a lot more classic metal elements than any previous Dead To Fall recordings. Expect the album in April 2006, and don’t miss Dead To Fall on tour in January 2006 with Ion Dissonance, where new songs from the album will be performed. Tour dates will be confirming shortly.

Obituary, Napalm Death Show Report From Virginia
On Thursday, September 1st, I drove down to Jaxx in Springfield, Virginia to see Obituary, Napalm Death, and Dead To Fall play. This is a lineup that I would not normally have gone out to see, but one of my friends is a big Dead To Fall fan and I was interested in checking all of these bands out anyway, but I might not have gone to the show without any other motivation. As it turns out, my friend never showed up or returned my calls. (Note to self: get new friends that are into metal AND reliable). Having driven almost an hour to get there and paid $25 to get in, I was going to see this show anyway. More...
